In addition to showcasing Brandon Descai’s newest fashion collection titled, “Love Bloom…An Evolution of Love” we also had the opportunity to interview the designer.
With such a fabulous collection and based here in Baltimore, this was an interview worth the wait!
What does fashion and design mean to you?
Fashion means what’s popular or trending. The design aspect is what makes it unique to you preference or style.
When did you realize you wanted to become a fashion designer?
I realized I wanted to be a fashion designer around age 19, after not being able to find affordable an d suitable clothes at the mall.
What was the first article of clothing you ever designed?
It was a Saturday morning, and I planned to go to the club later that night. I realized I had nothing to wear, so I decided to head to the local Walmart and pick out fabric and a pattern to make a shirt. I decided upon a crinkle cotton for he shirt and picked a “1hour” pattern that took me 8 hours to complete.
How long does it usually take you to construct a piece?
The shortest timeframe is about 3 hours and lengthiest is 96 hours.
Describe the general process you go through to design and realize a piece of clothing.
When I design I think about if it for male or female, purpose and functionality, where they are going, and how would the clothes make them feel.
What are some of your accomplishments as a designer?
So far I have shown at NYFW to rave reviews, I’ve dressed Ty Hunter, Lil Mo, Paula Campbell, Rye rye, Dru Hill, and Jessica Greene.
Who are some of your favorite clothing designers?
Dolce & Gabbana, Dsquared2, Michael Kors, Alexander McQueen and Marc Jacobs are my favorites.
What’s in the future for B. Descai?
I am looking for new boutiques local and on the north east coast. One of my short term goals is to open my own boutique within the next 2 years.

Sunday afternoon, Kevin “Trix” Bent debuted his new clothing line ‘Only In America’ to the public at a creative space in the arts district of Baltimore, MD. It was a concept born in 2012 when Kevin was incarcerated. During this time period Kevin felt like the world had turned their back on him, with only a handful of friends that kept in contact. The struggle to keep sane became a daily task and that is when Kevin began to reflect on one of his true passions, one being fashion. Kevin states that “Through the difficult adversities I kept a positive mindset and created my clothing line ‘Only In America’ for people of all cultures and for individuals who feel “incarcerated” in their own mind set. Whether it be mentally or physically when you remain positive through the your turmoil you can have everything you dream of. My personal story exemplifies how “Only in America” can you “loose it all” and gain back more than you could have ever imagined.” Attendees, which included some of the top tastemakers in Baltimore, including event promoters, music industry individuals, fashion media and more enjoyed light fare, champagne and fashion forward music. ‘Only in America’ will serve as a way of life, a fresh outlook on life that men and women can strive to live. The line will feature select designs of t-shirts, hats, and sweatshirts. Each design has its own story and is truly a piece of art and when you put on a ‘Only In America’; garment a sense of confidence will come over you. The collection features pieces inspired by American Legends such as Andy Warhol to the true American Dream; being famous.

B. DESCAI is a fashion line that’s known for it’s blend of vogue and fairytale articulation. The designer (Brandon Descai) featured his newest collection titled, “Love Bloom…an Evolution of Love” on Saturday, September 21, 2013 at EMP Collective located in Baltimore, Maryland.
According to the designer the show, “takes audiences on a love ride with garments inspired from the fast paced, surprising yest whisimical effect that love offers.”
Personally, I am “over the moon” with the designs and styling for this show. It is the perfect combination between art, drama, and couture. Some of the accessories used for the show are playful head pieces and “mod” tights.
In my opinion, the B. DESCAI show is very reminiscint of vintage Betsey Johnson from the nineties. With such a beautiful collection, there’s no question that this show was a success!
To my suprise and excitement, Style Life Fashion was asked to interview Keyshia Cole on Saturday, September 21, 2013. Keyshia was visiting the Baltimore area (Towson Town Center) to promote her new shoe collection with Steve Madden.
Of course, I was very excited to interview Keyshia Cole because I do like her music (we all have our favorite song) and personal style. But, I could also relate to her in terms of fashion, music, and relationships.
I truly enjoyed interviewing Keyshia Cole because she is very down to earth and passionate about her upcoming projects. From our conversation, she is trying to expand her brand beyond music and aspires to have a lipgloss collaboration (Hello MAC, you have Rihanna…why not Keyshia.)
Aside from the interview, her new shoe collection is hot. I wanted to see the shoes for myself because in addition to being a fan of Keyshia Cole, I also like Steve Madden pumps and boots.
From color assorted pumps to lace up pointed stilletos, the Keyshia Cole collection will definitely be the shoe that every girl will want. Most importantly, the shoes are affordable and I am secretly plotting when I will purchase a pair of shoes (the DIVA in black) from the collection.
Lastly, fans in the Baltimore area did a fantastic job of welcoming Keyshia Cole to the area and truly showed support for the artist. The event ended with Keyshia connecting with her fans while singing songs, playing games, and promoting her Steve Madden collection.
I would like to share an event that’s hosted by one of the leading organizations for developing women and communities.

On Sunday, June 9, 2013 I had the opportunity to attend The Mdurvwa Pop Up Shop hosted by Teena Leone (from Fashion for Breakfast) along with jewelry designer Deborah Mdurvwa and R&B Singer, Lil Mo. The event was held at a local boutique (in Federal Hill, Baltimore) titled The Lovelace Showroom.
I had a great time at this event for a variety of reasons. Number one, I love supporting other bloggers because we truly have a passion for what we do and understand the dynamics and hard work that goes into maintaing a website. Number two, it was my first time visiting The Lovelace Showroom and I adore the “vibe” that’s in this boutique. From chandelier ceilings to sequin drapes, this is my type of boutique! Lastly, it’s always nice to meet other fashionistas living in the Baltimore area.
Everyone who attended the event also had the opportunity to enjoy cupcakes, light refreshments, and music played by a local DJ.
I give the event a thumbs up and looking forward to the next event hosted by Teena!
Just another fun day for Style Life Fashion!
