Lead Stylists for Macadamia Professional: Eiji Yamane

Look:  The Perfectly Parisian

Step-by-Step:

  1. Evenly distribute Macadamia Professional Blow Dry Lotion, section hair and blow dry.
  2. Part hair over the left eye moving diagonally to the right side of the head, stopping at the crown.
  3. Pull back into a low ponytail at the nape of the neck – pulling tightly to ensure the top of the head is smooth and sleek. Using a curling iron, curl the entire ponytail at once to give slight softness and movement.
  4. Separate ponytail into two sections. Take the left section and curling up; create a large hiding the curls of the newly defined loose bun. Secure with bobby pins and spray withMacadamia Professional Style Lock Strong Hold Hairspray to lock in place.
  5. Repeat step 4 with the right section of the ponytail, to create a loose, chic double chignon.
  6. Using a comb, gently smooth out all hair that is pulled back one last time and apply Macadamia Professional Whipped Detailing Cream to tame any flyaways.
  7. To complete the look, liberally spray Macadamia Professional Weightless Moisture Dry Oil Micro Mist for added shine and luster.

WEST ELM OPENS FIRST STORE IN MARYLAND

Home furnishings retailer West Elm announced the opening of its first Maryland location at 1301 Dock St. in downtown Baltimore, along the waterfront between Harbor East and Fells Point. The 11,377 square-foot retail Harbor Point location at the Exelon Building will open on Thursday, September 15 at 10 a.m., bringing approximately 30 jobs to the neighborhood. As part of West Elm’s LOCAL program, seven Maryland-based makers and designers will sell their products within the store’s fall assortment of modern furnishings and décor, and a complimentary Design Lab will offer services that support customers in their journey to express their personal style at home. “We are proud to open our first Maryland store in a neighborhood experiencing a renaissance with both locals and visitors,” says West Elm president Jim Brett. “Our goal is to become an active contributor to this historically conscious community, supporting their efforts to preserve the waterfront while sustainably revitalizing a once overlooked area of downtown Baltimore.”

The newly constructed Exelon Building is expected to bring a mix of shops, restaurants and entertainment to Harbor Point, originally a commercial corridor. West Elm Baltimore speaks to the neighborhood’s industrial and shipping heritage by incorporating salvaged materials sourced from Baltimore harbor into the interior’s architecture. Reclaimed pylons constructed from pine, spruce, and fir lumber, once part of the harbor docks, have been repurposed for the store’s ceiling and distinctive cash wrap design.

To celebrate the opening, West Elm partnered with Baltimore-based artist Tomahawk Design Co. to design a limited edition tote bag that will be presented to the first 300 shoppers with a $50 minimum purchase on opening day. Additional store opening activities will include a sweepstakes* offering local customers a chance to win a $2,000 gift card and an invitation to a private pre-opening celebration on Wednesday, September 14 from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. A portion of the pre-opening celebration proceeds will benefit Living Classrooms Foundation, a local nonprofit organization aiming to strengthen communities and inspire young people to achieve their potential through hands-on education and job training.

A selection of locally made products by seven Maryland-based makers and artisans will be a part of the West Elm Baltimore LOCAL assortment including:

Dylan Design Co.: Tables made of wood and metal and manufactured in Baltimore, MD.

Forty Third Place: Trays and wall art made from salvaged and reclaimed wood in Hyattsville, MD.

Foxwood Co.: Handmade sculptural vessels, dishes and objects carved from locally sourced wood in Annapolis, MD.

Radica Textiles: Pillowcases designed by hand and printed in small batches honoring Baltimore’s rich history in the textile industry.

The Vintage Vogue: Modern handpainted wood coasters that blend patterns and artfully crafted, minimalist shapes by a Baltimore-based artist.

Tomahawk Design Co.: Baltimore-based graphic design firm specializing in home goods, stationery and apparel.

● Waxing Kara: Beeswax-infused bath and beauty products made by a beekeeper in Owings Mills, MD. Katie Gallagher SS17 Lookbook – NYFW16 RECAP

katiegallagher
About Katie Gallagher – Eclipse SS17
Secretive, unknown, mysterious, Black, the darkest color yet the color with no color at all, represents both full absorption and complete absence of light, evil and elegance. Constantly inspired by this hue that has no hue, Katie Gallagher’s Spring/Summer 2017 collection, Eclipse, is her third all-black collection, followed by last season’s all black collection, Veiled and her initial collection, S/S 2010, Veil.
Gallagher’s current monochromatic collection relies on textures and subtle details, highlighting her obsessions with gothic architecture, Harry Clarke illustrations and traditional Catholic rituals and symbols. She complements these heavy themes with lightweight fabrics and whimsical embroidery.
Through Eclipse, Gallagher combines Swiss Dot sheer jackets with delicate lace and pony fur, English tulle skirts and tops feature embroidered hearts, dots and crosses. Gallagher pairs gathered, twisted seams with grosgrain ribbons and silver zippers, defining her SS17 collection.

  2. Take a large section from the sides, top and crown area and loosely pull into messy half bun, using an elastic to secure it in place. Make sure to leave a few wispy pieces falling naturally along the sides of the face back through the nape of the neck.
  3. Gently tug on hair that is pulled back to add slight imperfections, then loosely pin the bun to head.
  4. Spritz Cantu Coil Calm Detangler ($4.97, Walmart.com) to loosen and define texture of hair that is not in the knot
  5. Finish off the look with a few  sprigs of baby’s breathe or jeweled barrette

Hair How To: The Horsetail

Hairstylist: Giannandrea, International Creative Director for Macadamia Professional

1.)    Start with wet hair and apply Macadamia Professional Blow Dry Lotion ($19.95; Ulta.com) throughout the lengths to smooth and protect hair from heat styling. Blow-dry large sections straight with a large round brush.

2.)    Brush all the hair upward to the top center of the crown. All the sides and back of the hair must direct very tightly to the top center.

3.)    Pull hair into a ponytail, smoothing all sides as needed and secure with a strong hair elastic.

4.)    Spray Macadamia Professional Tousled Texture Finishing Spray ($19.95, Ulta.com) through length of the ponytail to create body and definition.

5.)    Take a medium sized section from the back bottom of the ponytail. Wrap the section around the base of the elastic and spray Macadamia Professional Flex Hold Shaping Hairspray ($19.95; Ulta.com) to help the hair stay in place. Create a tall, 3-inch thick band that covers the elastic. Use straight pins all around while wrapping and smoothing it in place.

6.)    Lightly spray the top of the head with Macadamia Professional Flex Hold Shaping Hairspray ($19.95; Ulta.com) and gently run hands over the hair to smooth flyaways.

7.)    Brush the ponytail and spray Macadamia Professional Weightless Moisture Dry Oil Micro Mist ($31.95; Ulta.com) to achieve the ultimate finish and shine for a glamorous look.
