Birmingham Zoo to Open for Labor Day First Responders and Healthcare Workers Receive Discounted Admission

In celebration of the Labor Day holiday, the Birmingham Zoo will be open on Monday, September 7 from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. The Zoo will be offering a discounted admission of $8 to First Responders and Healthcare Workers (with valid ID/badge) and up to four (4) guests at $8 each from Saturday, September 5 until Monday, September 7. Discounted admission tickets will only be sold onsite at the Zoo’s front entrance ticket booths.

The Birmingham Zoo is incredibly grateful for all our first responders and healthcare workers who have been working tirelessly through the Covid-19 pandemic. The Zoo is a fun and relaxing place where frontline workers can enjoy time with their friends and family while connecting to wildlife and the natural world. “We want First Responders and Healthcare workers to know their Birmingham Zoo supports them. We are thankful for the sacrifices they make, every day, and especially during this pandemic,” said Birmingham Zoo President & CEO, Chris Pfefferkorn. “They are true heroes whose dedication, commitment, and courage deserve our deepest gratitude and admiration.“

Labor Day at the Zoo offers something for everyone to enjoy! Visitors can take a ride on the Red Diamond Express Train* and spin on the Protective Life Carousel* at Children’s Zoo (*Additional cost). Daily activities, rides, and animal encounters at the Zoo are weather dependent.

The Red Diamond Express train and Protective Life carousel are operating from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and tickets are available for purchase onsite and online at birminghamzoo.com. The Zoo’s main Gift Shop is open for guests to purchase their favorite specialty items. The Predator and South America/Primate buildings are open for visitors to see indoor animal habitats in these areas as they travel the one-way path through the Zoo.

All guests and members of the Zoo are required to follow our health and safety guidelines, including face coverings for individuals over the age of six (6), in accordance with the State of Alabama ordinance mandating the wearing of face coverings in public places. For the health and safety of our staff, guests, and animals, the Birmingham Zoo will continue to monitor and evaluate our operations and modify our procedures as needed.

Local Event: Birmingham Zoo Celebrates First Ever Pajama Jam Back To School Summer Bash

The Birmingham Zoo invites the community to join us Saturday, August 3rd from 5 pm until 8 pm for a fun-filled, pajama-wearing, music-jamming celebration at the first annual Pajama Jam: Back To School Summer Bash! The end of summer is almost here, so let’s have one more party before the start of the school year! Guest are encouraged to wear their pajamas, pack a blanket and celebrate on Henley Park while rocking out to tunes presented by Mason Music.

The Zoo’s summer inspired pajama party offers the entire family an evening of games, activities, animal greetings, and excitement! Fun for all ages, the event hosts special story time with Llama Llama Red Pajama. Guests will enjoy puppet shows from “That Puppet Guy”, making crafts, and cooling off in the Splash Pads, so don’t forget to bring your towel!

Event Admission includes entrance into the Zoo, free unlimited rides on the carousel, train and wild slide. Guests will also have access to lawn games, puppet show, crafts, splash pads, story time, sensory bins, entertainment and a special appearance from the Llama in Pajamas! Food and beverages will be available for purchase at the Zoo’s restaurants. Early Bird pricing is available now through Saturday, July 20. Details for Early Bird admission pricing are as follows: Adult Non-Member is $20, Children Non-Member 4 yrs to 12yrs   is $10, Zoo Member Adult is $18, and Zoo Member Children 4 yrs to 12yrs is $8. Infants and toddlers 0-3 years of age receive free entry into the event.

Birmingham’s Biggest Easter Egg Hunt and Breakfast with the Easter Bunny at the Birmingham Zoo

April is here and the time has come to celebrate Easter with an Eggstravaganza plus Breakfast with the Easter Bunny! Hop on over to Birmingham’s biggest Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 20 from 10am-12: 30 pm at the Birmingham Zoo. Come a little earlier for a scrumptious breakfast with your favorite bunny at either 8 am or 9:30 am!

Just in time for spring, our rain or shine event is sure to be endless fun for the whole family with egg hunts for children and adults! More than 10,000 eggs will be hidden throughout Henley Park for a colossal scavenger hunt. Guests, young and old, will love adventuring through the park and playground in search of colorful eggs for a chance to win a variety of prizes.

Our Eggstravaganza event hosts two egg hunts for children, as well as a special egg hunt for adults only. Children who collect 10 eggs will receive a cute bunny plush! All children’s hunts are free for Zoo members and included in admission for non-members.

Adult Egg Hunt winners will pick from a variety of exclusive prizes provided by area businesses, special Zoo tours, and memberships all valued at $50 or more. Our Adult Egg Hunt is $25 to participate.

Can’t wait until 10 am to celebrate with us? Book your seat now at our early morning Breakfast with the Easter Bunny! Sure to be a highlight of the day, the event will host two times at 8 am and 9:30 am and will be held in the Zoo’s Nourish205 restaurant. Enjoy a scrumptious scrambled egg, pancakes and sausage breakfast with orange juice and coffee followed by a visit from the Easter Bunny! All children receive a special holiday gift upon arrival.

Breakfast with the Easter Bunny member pricing is $25 for adults, $20 for kids, and non-members are $30 for adults and $25 for kids (tax not included). The pricing includes Zoo admission, Unlimited Ride Wristband, breakfast, holiday craft, animal greeting, and a visit and photo op with the Easter Bunny.

Spring Break Fun and Excitement at the Birmingham Zoo

Spring Break is the best time to have fun and enjoy exciting places like the Birmingham Zoo! Join us from March 23-31, for the opening of seasonal favorites and special activities. Guest will enjoy the Children’s Zoo Splash Pads, happenings at the Predator Zone, interact with animals in the Contact Yard and do so much more. Starting Saturday, March 23 will be the return of Giraffe Feedings* and Camel Rides*.

Guests are invited to feed the lorikeets in the Schaeffer Eye Center Lorikeet Aviary*, take a ride on the Red Diamond Express Train*, spin on the Protective Life Carousel* and zip down the Full Moon Bar-B-Que Wild Slide*. Enjoy watching a Wildlife Show or meet an Ambassador Animal at the UAB at the UAB Callahan Eye Hospital Wildlife Stage. Participate in up-close fun with our sea lions at a Red Diamond Sea Lion Show.

Our All Adventure Wristband* will be available to purchase for access to unlimited rides on the train, carousel, and slide, in addition to one camel ride, one ticket for giraffe feeding and one ticket for lorikeet feeding. IBERIABANK ZooGala 2018: The Birmingham Zoo’s Largest Fundraising Event

On Friday, September 14, the Birmingham Zoo will host its largest annual fundraising event, ZooGala 2018 – Indaba in Africa, sponsored by IBERIABANK, partner of the Birmingham Zoo for the past nine years.

The affair will be held at the Zoo. Stunning décor inspired by African safaris, markets, savannahs, rainforests, and coastlines will transform the event into an evening to remember. Guests are invited to mingle and enjoy culinary offerings, inspired by regional African cuisine by Kathy G. & Company. Live entertainment will be performed by The Main Attraction for your dancing pleasure. Throughout the evening, guests will experience special animal walkabouts and greetings.

The Birmingham Zoo hosts an online silent auction that includes an array of exciting travel opportunities, artwork, jewelry, fine wine, and dining. Anyone may partake in the online auction. Guests do not have to be present at the event to participate; registration is encouraged.

Chairs for this year are Amanda Davis, Leigh Davis, and Sumner Rives. ZooGala Advisor for 2018 is Britt Redden. Candice McKinney is Chair of the VIP Pre-Party, which begins at 6 pm and will introduce an innovative conservation program. Honorary chairs are Janice and Roddy McKinney. IBERIABANK ZooGala 2018 tickets may be purchased for $250/person. VIP Pre-Party tickets are $350/person and include entrance to ZooGala.

IBERIABANK ZooGala 2018 proceeds benefit the Birmingham Zoo’s animal care and educational programs. Guests must be 21 years or older. Attire is cocktail.
