Breast Cancer Awareness Best Gift Ideas from CaringBridge Community

When you find out someone you love has cancer, you won’t always know exactly what to say or do to make their experience easier.

Giving a thoughtful gift is one of the many ways you can show support to a loved one going through cancer treatment.  For inspiration, we asked members of the CaringBridge community who have been touched by cancer to share the best gifts they’ve ever given or received.

1. Supply Meals

Offering meals is a gift-giving staple for a reason: it takes a huge burden off a patient. Finding the time to cook regularly is a challenge even for those with no health issues, let alone someone struggling with cancer.

2. Throw Them a Party

What makes someone’s mind off of things better than a party? When a loved one has cancer, it can feel difficult to get in the party mood, but it’s important to remember there are still so many positives to celebrate. Whether it be a birthday bash or anniversary party, your loved one shouldn’t have to miss out because of their illness.

3. Make a CaringBridge Site

CaringBridge is a personal health journal that lets you easily share your health journey with all your loved ones. Creating a site is a great way to help your loved one easily communicate and receive support, which makes it an awesome gift to give someone battling cancer.

Talk of Alabama Lifestyle Segment: Breast Cancer Awareness Fall Must-Haves

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  To celebrate efforts of the National Breast Cancer Foundation I hosted a Lifestyle Segment with ABC 33/40 on Monday, October 30, 2017.  The television appearance featured beauty and wellness tips to help women that are undergoing cancer treatment.

A few of the suggestions discussed on-air included the use of hair turbans, scarfs, mineral makeup, and water-based nail polish.  Companies such as STILA Cosmetics provided makeup from the Living Beauty Collection and Dana’s Bakery shipped Pink Cotton Candy Macaroons that encouraged proceeds to be donated to the Breast Cancer Foundation.

This particular segment was dear to my heart because my mother is a Lymphatic Cancer survivor.  Special thank you to Talk of Alabama for allowing me to share cancer related beauty tips with a local audience!

LAVANILA Underarm Detox Mask: Breast Cancer Awareness

There is a heightened sensitivity around the use of aluminum-based products and a growing awareness of the importance of sweat and overall health of the underarm area.

Toxins accumulate in the underarm with everyday life such as diet, stress and pollutants. On top of that, when using conventional deodorant and antiperspirant, we push new chemicals like aluminum and metal ions in to the skin, which can accumulate and potentially cause irritation, discomfort, concern and a long transition to natural deodorant.

Why you need this product:

  1. You have chemical and impure build up in the underarm area
  2. You are trying to switch from a chemical to a natural deodorant
  3. You want a lighter, more beautiful underarm

Enter LAVANILA Laboratories’ breakthrough Healthy Underarm Detox Mask, a first-of-its-kind breakthrough. We are excited to introduce the first product on the market specifically created to alleviate concerns around aluminum and build-up in the underarm area, while also helping to ease and shorten the transition from chemical to natural deodorant, a growing movement. Powered by highly effective, all-natural ingredients, this targeted underarm treatment effectively detoxifies the underarm area with a combo of Active Charcoal, Malic Acid and Silica which uniquely bind to dirt, bacteria, aluminum and excess oils trapped in the skin and like a magnet work to draw them out. With a mess-free, soft brush applicator, this mask is good for all skin types and a simple addition to your weekly regimen.

The results:

  • Helps remove aluminum and build up from the underarm area
  • Shortens the transition to natural deodorant
  • Less odor
  • Less perspiration
  • Less irritation
  • Lighter, brighter, smoother underarm skin

With use of The Healthy Underarm Detox Mask twice a week:

  • 92% of users said that the mask helped eliminate traces of buildup in the underarm area
  • 94% of users said that the mask left their underarms smoother and brighter
  • 95% of said they would continue to use the mask for the ongoing health of their skin

WHAT IT COSTS: $26; A portion of the proceeds going to Breast Cancer Awareness.

The Real Talk Show has become one of my favorite guilty pleasures.  All of the cast members have wonderful personalities, topics are on target with today’s new woman, and they “keep it real!”  Each day there’s a different surprise and we can’t forget about the fashion and beauty tips.

Most importantly, there’s always an opportunity to laugh and maybe even shed a tear with each episode. Today, the ladies looked “pretty in pink” as they celebrated Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Also, catch the clip below:

NEW YORK, NY – October 2, 2012 – This October, Macy’s has once again partnered with The Breast Cancer Research Foundation® (BCRF) to draw attention, heighten awareness and raise funds in the fight against breast cancer. Throughout the month of October, women, survivors and others also affected by breast cancer will have a chance to acknowledge Breast Cancer Awareness month, and look good while doing good with commemorative pink products, including fashion, cosmetics and home merchandise.

“Macy’s has a long-standing commitment to giving back and supporting causes that are important to the communities we live in,” said Martine Reardon, chief marketing officer for Macy’s. “Our more than 10 year partnership with BCRF demonstrates our ability to make magic by working effectively with our vendors, employees and customers to get involved and fight for a cure. We know that the small part we play in such a monumental cause will make a difference and help to save lives by funding research to end breast cancer forever.”

When looking for ways to support the cause, shop America’s department store for pink product from beloved designers and brands. Throughout October, Macy’s will host a dedicated space in 350 stores across the country and online at macys.com/pink, aptly named the “Pink Shop,” featuring a variety of items that give back to causes devoted to awareness, education and research in the fight against breast cancer, including trench coats from Pink Envelope and pink-hued skinny denim from Celebrity Pink. Another way to think pink is with an eye-catching leopard print lace top from INC International Concepts. Retailing for $59.50, 5 percent of the purchase price will go directly to BCRF. Check out Macy’s “Pink Shop” in store or online to select from a variety of items in fashion, beauty and home that all give the opportunity to make a contribution in the fight against breast cancer.

According to the American Cancer Society, more than 200,000 new cases of invasive breast cancer (Stages I-IV) are diagnosed among women in the United States in a year, resulting in approximately 40,000 deaths. Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in women, after lung cancer. Through various partnerships and joint efforts, Macy’s maintains a steadfast dedication to finding a cure. This year’s program is targeted to reaching customers in every aspect of their lives.

“The Breast Cancer Research Foundation is privileged to have Macy’s and its loyal customers join us in our fight against breast cancer,” said Myra J. Biblowit, President of The Breast Cancer Research Foundation. “The Breast Cancer Research Foundation provides critical funding for innovative clinical and translational research. We believe that research saves lives. Year after year Macy’s brings national attention to our cause and continues to be a strong ally for so many women who have unfortunately been affected by this disease.”
