Hosea Helps Historic Pivot For 2021 Holiday Events

Hosea Helps, Inc., in its 50th year of service, kicks off its 2021 Holiday Festival of Services with the Great Turkey Drop-off, followed by the Annual Thanksgiving Event. This year’s holiday events will be another historic first for the organization battling against the covid-19 pandemic. They will hold the annual Thanksgiving and Christmas food distributions one week before the holiday to better provide for families in need. This pivot allows them to distribute all of the fixings for a delicious holiday meal in time for families to prepare and serve on the actual holiday. The Thanksgiving drive-thru food distribution will take place on November 19, 2021, from 11:00 am – 4:00 pm in the Blue Lot across from the Georgia World Congress Center’s C building off Northside Drive, entering on Maple Street. By doing the holiday food distribution a week in advance, they’re empowering families by giving them time to prepare and enjoy a scrumptious home-cooked meal on Thanksgiving Day – No more frozen turkeys on the holiday!

This historic holiday event will be a two-fold holiday giving extravaganza. This is the first time in history that Hosea Helps will be receiving in-kind donations and distributing food boxes and supplies simultaneously. This year, Hosea Helps is working with a world-renowned service organization, which they will announce early next week, to kick off the 2021 Holiday Food Drive. This extraordinary group of volunteers will lead the charge in donating poultry, canned goods, pantry items, and household supplies. In addition, volunteers will be working both sides of the giving spectrum by accepting food drive donations from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm and helping to distribute food boxes and supplies to families on the other side. Hosea Helps has never had so many volunteers that they could receive and distribute donations at the same time.

The Great Turkey Drop-off will take place on November 11, 2021, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. Hosea’s corporate donors, Publix Supermarkets and Kroger, along with donations from the philanthropic community, including Simon Guobadia, will deliver turkeys to the new Hosea Headquarters located at 2545 Forrest Hills Drive, SW Atlanta, GA 30315 for distribution during this seasons Festival of Services that include Thanksgiving, Christmas, MLK Day.

“We are so excited and grateful that these volunteers committed to partnering with us to help meet the rising demand for food and supplies for families in need during the holidays. The after-effects of Covid and the shortages in the supply chain have caused a decrease in the availability of turkeys this year, ultimately driving the costs up too high for us to buy in large quantities. That’s why this year’s Great Turkey Drop-off  by our corporate sponsors and the donation drive by our volunteers is so important. We hope that these donations will help us fill the gap between our supply and the community need.”, says Elizabeth Omilami, CEO of Hosea Helps.

Participating families must register for the 11/19/21 Thanksgiving food distribution on the Hosea Helps website at www.4hosea.org to receive groceries and supplies prior to the event. For more information on Hosea Helps and its programs, visit the website or follow on social media @4Hosea.

Birmingham Joins the list of Cities to Host the International Event Diner en Blanc #DebBirmingham

Le Dîner en Blanc, the popular Parisian-style pop-up picnic characterized by its famous all-white dress code will take place in Birmingham for the first time ever this October. The exact date will be announced later on.

To participate in this first edition: guests must be invited via the hosts’ network or participating partners or get on the waiting list via the official website.  If you want to be part of this inaugural event, sign up now on the waiting list at register.dinerenblanc.com/birmingham/en/register.

Le Dîner en Blanc began in Paris in 1988 when François Pasquier, returning from a long stay abroad, had the idea to gather friends for a picnic. As the number of guests grew, he decided to hold the dinner in a public space and ask everyone to dress in all white to easily recognize one another. In June 2018, Le Diner en Blanc de Paris marked its 30th anniversary. A record 17,000 guests from Paris and around the world gathered at the Esplanade des Invalides to celebrate this historic moment. In 2009, the first-ever export of Le Dîner en Blanc took place in Montreal, Canada, followed by a first American edition in 2011 in New York City. After its successful New York debut, Diner en Blanc International was created to bring the Parisian secret to more cities around the world. Le Dîner en Blanc is now held in over 80 cities all over the world including London, Sydney, Buenos Aires, Mexico City, Toronto, Nairobi, and Los Angeles, with over 130,000 annual guests

Now for the first time ever, Birmingham will host its own Le Dîner en Blanc, thanks to local hosts Jasmine Allen.  “As Birmingham grows and competes on an international level, it is imperative that Destination Birmingham, the city’s only DMC, reflect those efforts by recruiting international events such as Diner en Blanc.  These type events not only provide entertainment and culture but also boost tourism and help push the City of Birmingham as the go-to Destination Location in the South” says Jasmine Allen, owner of Destination Birmingham.

To uphold Le Dîner en Blanc’s tradition, guests of around the world must dress head-to-toe in white and are requested to bring their own portable tables, white chairs, white table linens, tableware, and a gourmet meal.

A large part of the excitement surrounding Le Dîner en Blanc is the secrecy surrounding the event location which is kept secret until the very last moment. Guests are given rendezvous to a departure point when they purchase their tickets.

 About Diner en Blanc International

Founded in 2012 and headquartered in Montreal, Canada, Dîner en Blanc International is responsible for developing this secret posh picnic in over80 cities in 30 countries around the world. Each event is headed by passionate local organizers who fell in love with the concept and wanted to bring it to their city, giving this rendezvous a local flair. For more infophotos, and videos of Dîner en Blanc events from around the world, visit dinerenblanc.com.

Local DMC works to Showcase Birmingham through a new Lens

Encouraging residents and tourist to see ALL of Birmingham through a new lens!  Destination Birmingham will launch its “Get to Know #MyBirmingham” program on Saturday, July 13th with the first annual Street Art Scavenger Hunt.  Its all part of their effort to provide Birmingham with community events that force interaction, tourism, and out-of-the-box concepts.  In addition, the program acts as a catalyst to help boost revenues of participating businesses along with the hunt.  In 2020, the DMC plans to add 2-3 additional scavenger hunts with different themes.
How it Works
Participants tour our wonderful city while engaging in epic photoshoots, day parties, AND winning a beach trip! This scavenger hunt forces you to take pictures with some of Birmingham’s most popular and not-so-popular public art + murals + street art on this full-day outing.  Utilizing the clues provided, participants explore the city and snap pics of their answers.  Participants shouldn’t be surprised to find themselves partying at a local hangout with drink specials and totally having to get back on track!  But this is not just fun and games… a free beach trip goes to the 1st Place Winner and gift cards to Birmingham’s Best Restaurants, Top Attractions, and favorite hangouts are up for grabs as well.

Light fares of bourbon glazed chicken satay, sliced salmon over cucumber, jerk chicken and asparagus & goat cheese filled wontons were served. The specialty drink of the night, Cointreau Teese – known as the seductive mistress – induced the guest to what the protagonist of Unthinkable, Keena, felt during her rendezvous in Vegas and thereafter. Delicious desserts from The Addicted Bakery consisted of vanilla bean, lemon lovers and berry liquor infused cupcakes.

Unthinkable explores the life of Keena Robinson after her world is threatened by her overzealous co-worker and her loveless marriage begins to fall apart. To help distract Keena from the tragedies happening on the home front, her two best friends, Lisa and Jasmine, planned a two-week vacation to Sin City. Keena caught the eye of her celebrity crush, Chase Parker, on more than one occasion wearing the show stopping designs of FoxMod and Weird Art Society. What happens in Vegas does not always stay in, at least not fashion.
