MIXT Studio Trucker Hats and Kerry Washington

Paper and gift brand MIXT Studio, best known for printing free-spirited patterns on Tyvek bags and totes, introduced a trucker hat for the Women’s March two days before the event. MIXT founder, Marcie Carson, has been a longtime contributor to the women’s and humanitarian movement and created the iconic design for a local group of women. What started as a spontaneous I’m-going-to-do-this-for-my-friends was met with such enthusiasm and interest that the hats are now available as a commemoration of this historical event.

Award-winning actress Kerry Washington from the ABC drama, Scandal, sported the Trucker Hat on Saturday as she appeared with hundreds of thousands at the Women’s March in Los Angeles.

MIXT Studio Women’s March Trucker Hats can be purchased from the MIXT studio website mixtstudio.com.  Hats are $18 and available in 3 colors, #mixtmoxie.

LA PERLA + KENDALL JENNER DEBUT CORSET JACKET

LA PERLA is pleased to introduce the Corset Jacket, a key suiting concept from the new ready-to-wear collection designed by Julia Haart, Creative Director of LA PERLA. The Corset Jacket makes its worldwide debut in a striking photo of Kendall Jenner. The LA PERLA Corset Jacket represents Julia Haart’s vision to fuse LA PERLA’s unparalleled knowledge of the female form with a unprecedented devotion to how women want to feel: sensual, beautiful and comfortable — an offering only LA PERLA can provide. From boardroom to evening, the Corset Jacket translates seamlessly into every area of a woman’s life. The single layer of structured bi-stretch wool against the skin gently enhances the female form, while never sacrificing total comfort.

The LA PERLA Corset Jacket embodies the feeling and support of lingerie with internal cups, elegant hook fastenings and finely tailored darts. The bi-stretch wool Corset Jacket is sized according to bust for the perfect fit and can be worn as a single layer thanks to the built-in wireless bra. This refined piece, available in store today, offers the luxurious feeling of a single layer of fabric against the skin.

The campaign, photographed by Steven Klein, marks the heritage brand’s transition into a full ready-to-wear offering under the creative direction of Julia Haart, who took reins of the Italian house in August 2016.

The campaign photograph features Jenner streaked in light, emphasizing the curve and precise cut of the Corset Jacket. Behind her, we see an x-rayed image, kindly lent by the Victoria & Albert Museum, featuring a corset and its wearer, outlining the distorted effect corsetry had on a woman’s bones. The image is ingeniously juxtaposed by the comfort and structural support of Haart’s revolutionary creation. The days of women suffering for beauty is a thing of the past.

Jenner’s campaign image debuts only a few weeks following a recent sighting of Gwyneth Paltrow wearing the same Corset Jacket with coordinating suiting pant by LA PERLA, at Paltrow’s holiday opening of goop GIFT.

BEAUTY. TIMELESS STYLE. LOVE. CONFIDENCE. AN EXPERIENCE. These are the core essentials that make up Alex Malay!

The Foundation Of A Fashionista!

Ever since I can remember, I was a lover of all things beautiful and always had a sense of style. I was the one who stood out in front of the crowd, whether at church or a birthday party or any event. Although very young, I always loved various vintage styles, sequins, and feathers. I loved black and white Hollywood classics of flashy fashions and striking styles.

Discovering Your Personal Style

Recently, I’ve added style photos to my social media feed.  I wanted to share my personal style, which is categorized as chic and modern.

This leads me to the topic for the blog post. How can someone discover his or her personal style? Essentially it’s about self-awareness and understanding your clothing preferences. The definition of style is, “a distinctive appearance, typically determined by the principles according to which something is designed.”

The first step to discovering your personal style is identifying a style icon. Do you prefer the total appearance of Lady Gaga or Michelle Obama?  Grab a few magazines and create a stylebook.

The next action is to visit your closet and examine pieces you have worn on numerous occasions.  This could be a fedora hat or cardigan sweater.  Are those items complimenting your features and body type (circle, triangle, hourglass, rectangle)?

Consider your lifestyle and occupation when curating your wardrobe.  A corporate executive should invest in a high quality suit; same concept applies for weekly Pilates sessions.

Accessories are the best assets for discovering your personal style.  They allow you to change a look without purchasing new clothing.  A classic wristwatch can upgrade an inexpensive blouse.

Ultimately, it’s about feeling great and presenting yourself in a positive manner!

Quick Wardrobe Tips:

  •  Invest in alterations for ill-fitting items
  •  Use the dry-cleaners sparingly – can damage clothing fibers
  •  Spend extra money on work shoes, blazers, jeans, bras, suiting, and outerwear
  •  Find unique pieces at consignment or thrift shops

AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL SEASON 23 – EPISODE 5 RECAP

a·vant-garde

noun
  1. new and unusual or experimental ideas, especially in the arts, or the people introducing them.

This was the theme for Season 23, Ep 5 of America’s Next Top Model.  According to the show, “Law Roach drops in on the girls to discuss the importance of personal style. Celebrity designer Nicola Formichetti takes the models out of their comfort zones and into the world of avant-garde fashion.”

There was the usual drama between contestants from wardrobe critiquing to personality clashes. Kyle, Giah, and Krislian struggled during the competition; wearing an uncomfortable costume (platform heels.)

Giah was asked to leave the competition due to her photos.  Panelist encouraged her to continue pursuing her dreams!
