Designer Kyle Ng brings streetwear to television with fashion series, ‘Social Fabric’ returning this May on Fuse

Designer Kyle Ng and Social Fabric will return to Fuse Tuesday, May 1 at 10 p.m. ET/PT. Enter Kyle’s world, where clothing, culture, and style weave a fascinating story that reveals we are all cut from the same cloth.

For six half-hour episodes, host Kyle will take viewers on a vibrant and colorful journey across the globe, from NYC to Japan, from downtown LA and Nairobi as we meet an eclectic array of designers and collectors who show us the history and the culture behind the clothing we chose to put on our backs. This season Kyle will explore everything from camo to Hip-hop jewelry-preneurs to lifestyle clothing and beyond.

Kicking off the show’s return will be the rebellious flair of “Leather Jackets.” Kyle hits the road with bikers in Brooklyn and punk rockers in Japan, then arrive in Los Angeles where they make the most artistic leather jackets in the world. The following week on May 8, Kyle explores “Crazy Pants” culture – slipping into the zaniest pants in the world. He’ll team up with top designer Jay Kos in New York City, then travel to Japan to see far–out work pants designs. He’ll finish up in Bushwick to put the WTF into DIY pants culture.

The conversation continues on Fuse.tv with the digital series “Closet Tours,” offering a peek inside the closets of different designers including Jeff Hamilton, Daniel Nelson and Miguel Larios. And “Cool Stuff” has Kyle trying on different types of clothing, explaining the history behind his threads.

Social Fabric is the winner of a 2018 NAMIC “Lifestyle” Award.

Sandy Liang FW17 Lookbook: Soft and Subversive Designs

Sandy Liang is a designer based in the Lower East Side of New York City. She started her eponymous brand with her Fall Winter 2014 collection shortly after graduating from Parsons School of Design.

Her first collection was based on her love of outerwear and Chinatown grandmas and has since grown to sell to over forty stockists internationally. Sandy draws inspiration from her personal life and is constantly self-referencing throughout her work, whether it be a childhood memory in Bayside, Queens, the coveted Gap Jeans she wore as a kid, or a movie that left an impression on her. Her woman is not a fictional woman who exists as an aspiration, but real women who she’ll see taking the subway or go grocery shopping at Whole Foods.

There is an ever present sense of humor and duality present throughout the collections – soft, yet subversive. She is playful in the way she uses materials – stainless steel nipple rings adorning a silk dress, a mink coat but with dropped shoulders and elbow patches. She makes sure not to take fashion too seriously as she feels it is there to make all of our lives a little more enjoyable and doesn’t know if it needs to be anything more than that.

STOCKISTS
Sandy Liang is sold at retailers worldwide including Net-A-Porter, Saks Fifth Avenue, ShopBop, FWRD, Forty Five Ten, Hirshleifers, Kirna Zabete, Need Supply, Shop Super Street, Totokaelo, Asthik (Ukraine), Beams (Japan), Beymen (Turkey), Boon the Shop (S Korea), Browns (GB), Filly’s Stable (Australia), Harvey Nichols (UK), Icon (Belgium), IT (HK), Lane Crawford (HK), Lane Crawford (CN), My Boon (S Korea), Plum (Lebanon), Rare Market (S Korea), Reel Shanghai (CN), Ron Herman (Japan), Stylebop (Germany), The Modern Society (GB), Tuchuzy (Australia) and more

Designer Julian Chang Spurs Fashion Shopping and Trends

Miami’s Foremost Fashion Designer Julian Chang adopts the “see now – buy now” Fashion Show apparel method.

image005

For years, fashion shows have been more of a pre-season ritual for buyers at department stores to get an idea and prepare for the next season to come. It was typical to see Winter apparel in a Summer fashion show. It took until 2016 for people to start realizing that it wasn’t such a practical approach.

As stated on Bloomberg Business Week “today, these shows are social media spectacles, and you’re as likely to find Ciara at one as the associate in charge of shoes at Saks Fifth Avenue. You’re also likely to see every runway look in your Instagram feed or in a story on Snapchat, which makes waiting six months for some big reveal as antiquated as, perhaps, going to a department store.”

More about Julian Chang:

Known for his bold prints and signature silhouettes, Julian Chang has become one of fashion’s most celebrated designers to emerge from Miami. Born and raised in Lima, Peru he moved to America and graduated from the Miami International University of Art and Design with a BA in Fashion Design. During school he underwent internships illustrating for magazines and free-lancing design for women’s and men’s fashions, and swimwear. After graduating he became assistant designer for a large manufacturer, and within eight months was named Head Designer. This rapid advancement allowed him to launch his own label.

Inspired by Miami’s lifestyle and travel, Julian’s designs have been worn by Britney Spears and Gloria Estefan, and featured in publications such as Cosmopolitan, Lucky, Vogue, and Vanidades. Esteemed accolades include Miami International Fashion Week Pret-a-Porter Designer of the Year, Ebenzer Award of Honor World Fashion in Korea, and The Key to The City of Miami Beach. Women’s Wear Daily selected Chang as the “Up and Coming Ready-to-Wear Designer to Watch”. Today Julian Chang has grown into an international brand that offers in-demand women’s apparel and is highlighted in over 600 high-end boutiques across the United States as well as internationally.

FILA and Jason Wu Reinvent the “Modern Classic” for FW 2016

Since the launch of his career back in the early 2000s, fashion designer Jason Wu has created a fashion empire that is defined by his ability to combine unique innovations with classic elegance and eclectic energy. Wu’s new collection for FILA Hong Kong seamlessly combines elements of two great designers – drawing inspiration from the clean lines, classic fringe and bold colors found in the FILA archives, and reimagining them with new geometric patterns, stylish cuts, and a bold color pattern that, when combined, makes for a truly unique and sophisticated collection that brings the 1960s into the modern world.
The FILA x Jason Wu women’s collection is defined by its unique combination of asymmetrical cuts, fabrics, and patterns that blend vintage FILA styles with contemporary silhouettes. Included in the collection are four tennis dresses, two tops, a skort, and a pant, which each sport a different color blocked pattern as well as bold lines of varying thickness and color. The show-stopping piece comes in the form of an ultra-feminine interpretation of the classic FILA tennis dress, which combines a smooth, form-fitting top, with a flirty pleated skirt, and an overlapping body piece. The mixture of fabrics and irregular stitching makes for a remarkable silhouette that creates a sense of depth, while keeping a visually optimized ratio.
The men’s FILA x Jason Wu line features a selection of polos, crewnecks, pants, and shorts in various combinations of white, black and grey – a design element that allows users to mix and match different pieces with ease. Various color blocking patterns and added geometric details in red, yellow, and blue gives each item its own unique flair, while remaining sophisticated and versatile. A black jacket with white piping on the wrists and waist rounds out the collection in stylish sophistication, making it the perfect addition to an autumn wardrobe.
The FILA x Jason Wu collection will be available this fall at select retail locations in Hong Kong, as well as online at www.fila.com.hk/. More information and photos about the collaboration may be found on FILA Hong Kong’s official site, as well as their Facebook andInstagram pages.
