Talk of Alabama Style Segment: Dressing for Virtual Meetings and Events #WFH

Before the new year began, I hosted a television segment on ABC 3340 Talk of Alabama discussing how to dress for virtual meetings and events.

The work environment has changed and there are new office, fashion guidelines.

It’s tempting to wear cozy pajamas to zoom meetings but the reality is that we must maintain a professional appearance.

Let’s get ready to SHOW UP in 2021.  It’s time to put away those sweatpants and slippers!  Click on the link below to watch the segment clip:

Aim High With Style Expert Sydney Sadick: 5 Different Ways To Wear Black Leggings This Fall

As a national TV correspondent (TODAY, E!, Inside Edition), fashion editor and style expert, NYC it girl Sydney Sadick has perfected the art of dressing for the part you want in life. In her new book Aim High: How to Style Your Life and Achieve Your Goals, Sydney shares her ethos on how to live fearlessly, achieve your dreams, and use fashion as a tool to ignite goal-getting confidence.

Not even a pandemic can stop her; as the nation-wide quarantine halted her industry, Sydney launched the ‘Lunchtime with Sydney’ Instagram Live show where 125,000+ viewers tune in weekly to watch her interview fashion and beauty icons like Bobbi Brown, Steve Madden, Lele Sadoughi, Alana Hadid, and some of today’s hottest reality celebrities.

The art of pivoting is just one of the many tricks Sydney has picked up over the years that drives her success. Now, she shares her story in her book to help others find their inner voice/style (and look fabulous in the process).

Black leggings are essential to our quarantine wardrobes this fall. They’re comfortable, look great on all women of any age and body type, and are the perfect canvas for dressing up or down. Here are 5 different ways I suggest wearing them.

1. Zoom Meetings: Make a statement in the upper portion of your outfit since this is where people will be seeing you. A puff-shoulder cardigan or a blazer in a flexible fabric with a bodysuit or t-shirt underneath paired with a gold hoop earring a bold lip will give your favorite bottoms a professional upgrade.

2. Socially-Distanced Lunch: If you’re meeting a friend for a socially distanced lunch outside you want to make sure you’re dressed warm! This is where layering comes into play. Pair your leggings first with a t-shirt, then a chunky knit sweater in a fall–approved color (deep burgundy, forest green), and a chic puffer coat. A pair of biker boots is also a fun way to add a little edge to your chilly-weather outfit. Your leggings allow you to mix textures, colors, and patterns, so have fun with it.

3. Comfy and Cozy: Netflix and chill calls for leggings and hoodies. Tie-dye is here to stay but in fall colors. Throw it on with your pair of leggings and a furry slipper and you’ll still look put together even if you have no plans on moving

4. Virtual Date: You don’t want to look like you tried too hard, but you still want to look put together. Your leggings will complement any top. Show off a little skin with an off the shoulder top paired with a chain choker necklace. It’s not too much but just enough.

5. At-Home Workout: Pair your leggings to a fun graphic t-shirt or colorful sports bra with a zip-up hoodie over it. The way you dress affects your mood so even bringing out some color to your leggings will make you a little more motivated to head to that online workout class.

Lifestyle Alert: 8 Back to School Strategies and oNecklace Bead Bracelet

Life has been pretty busy but this is one of my absolute favorite seasons.  Fall is filled with pumpkins, football games, and trick or treating.

One aspect that has changed due to COVID-19 is the kids attending school.  Every family has made individual choices based on their household.  The similarity amongst everyone is the ability to adjust due to the circumstances.

I have implemented a few strategies to keep everyone’s sanity and wanted to share them below.

Back to School/Virtual Learning Strategies:

1.  Set-up a digital learning space with individual crates for each child.  Crates should be labeled.

2.  Create a school binder with all of the teacher information and print schedules.

3.  Know the log-in information for each child.

4.  Create a daily schedule and put it on a whiteboard.

5. Put snacks in a basket for individual grabbing.

6. Create a lunch schedule according to in-school lunches.

7.  Have a Chromebook/computer tutorial with each child to foster independence.

8.  Set alarms in a child’s cellphone for them to join Google Meets.

If there’s no homework, kids can do afternoon art projects or go outside!

Also, don’t forget that companies like Target, Publix, and Amazon are offering delivery services for various products!

oNecklace Circle Initial Bead Bracelet:

I adore a beautiful bracelet.  It’s a simple touch of sparkle that can pull an entire outfit together!

oNecklace shipped an Initial Bead Bracelet that was perfect for my current jewelry collection.  The company allowed me to personalize this particular piece and of course, I added the letter K.

This bracelet is high-quality and coordinated well with my cardigan, camisole, and high waisted jeans.

oNecklace Initial Bead Bracelet

Just like the style bloggers would say, “The bracelet is stackable.”  That means combining several bracelets of varying styles for one accessorized look.

2020 Trends: The Fashion Forward Face Mask

Face masks are fast becoming the 2020 fashion trend. Lady Gaga appeared at the MTV VMA awards show early this week, wearing a different matching face mask with each wardrobe change (it’s Gaga, there were 7!). It’s a fashion movement borne of necessity rather than the advancement of trends. It’s reported that two-thirds of all US adults started to wear masks regularly between this past March and June. It will be a while before full-reopening; meanwhile as Americans venture out of their houses to enjoy socially distanced drinks, and the return of the drive-in movie, choice of face wear is now the thing to check for before leaving the house. Designers are taking notice, with new fashion-forward facial coverings on the high end going for $450.

OPI’s Nail Lacquer We Seafood and Eat It #ManicureMonday

The pandemic has definitely taken a toll on my manicure schedule.  I am squeezing in salon visits. Yikes!

One easy beauty technique is to keep nail lacquer at-home.  You never know when you need a change or quick touch-up.  OPI shipped a collection of colors that would make anyone want to polish their nails!

After reading a few online articles, I learned the importance of bringing your own supplies to the salon.  This helps with the health and hygiene of preventing the spread of germs.  Then, why not bring nail polish, right?

On this particular day, I stopped by the salon and grabbed a manicure.  I brought the color We Seafood and Eat It

The shade is considered to be reddish-orange and accents my tiny hand.  In-between zoom meetings, I still like to look my best!

  • CDC recommends that people wear cloth face coverings in public settings and when around people who don’t live in your household, especially when other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain.
  • Cloth face coverings may help prevent people who have COVID-19 from spreading the virus to others.
  • Cloth face coverings are most likely to reduce the spread of COVID-19 when they are widely used by people in public settings.

10 Important Life Lessons Learned from COVID-19 #WIW or #OOTD A-line Midi Dress

There’s a lot of life lessons to be learned from COVID-19.  This was an unexpected lifestyle change and we had to adjust immediately!

My thought pattern always goes back to, “What did I learn from every situation?”  It’s critical to always do self-evaluation and allow the opportunity for personal growth.

Throughout it all, I have tried to be thankful for the small blessings and keep a positive mindset.

10 Important Life Lessons Learned from COVID-19:

  1. Manage your time wisely and create system blocks.
  2. Meal planning is critical towards your budget and home organization.
  3. Cleanliness can be as easy as washing your hands, mopping your floors, and wiping down the countertops.
  4. Mom Tip-kids require (balanced) structure daily.  Allow them to have free space but yet implement structure/disciplined activities.
  5. First, shop your wardrobe and then seek outside pieces.  Do not overspend during this time.
  6. Your home is your haven.  Make it a place of peace and joy!  That might include gardening or rearranging decor.
  7. We can manage our own hair and nails.  At least until it is safe to venture outside of our comfort zones.
  8. Take care of yourself:  get exercise, take a multi-vitamin, and pick-up a new hobby.
  9. Journaling can create a still voice for relaxation and provide mental clarity.
  10. Avoid clutter at all costs.  Get rid of unnecessary items!

The No Makeup Look: Top Picks for Tinted Moisturizers and BB Creams

Although we’re coping with the COVID-19 pandemic inside of our homes, the weather is constantly changing.  One day it’s chilly and the next moment it’s hot!  That means it’s time for a new foundation in our make-up bags.

One of my personal favorites for the warmer months is the use of Tinted Moisturizers (or BB creams).  They hydrate the skin while giving a natural glow.  Basically, it’s a light foundation coverage and skin care moisturizer combined in one application.

Tinted moisturizers (and BB creams) are an easy way to even the skin without the use of heavy products.

Apply this product to the cheeks, forehead, chin, and nose!

Listed below are top picks for Tinted Moisturizers and BB Creams:
  1. NYX Bare With Me
  2. Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer
  3. Neutrogena SPF 20 in Medium to Dark
  4. NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer
  5. Black Radiance BB Cream

Lifestyle Update: Work From Home Starter Kit #Coronavirus

Owning a face mask has become a staple in everyone’s home.  Honestly, if you think about it how many times have we needed a face mask?

When we’re walking through the airport.  During the cold and flu season.  After giving birth to a newborn baby.  There have been several instances in our lives when we needed to protect ourselves or someone else.

This surgical mask has now sparked a surge of inspiration amongst the creative community!

Artists and designers are using their skills and designing “fancy” face masks.

Something that started as a medical necessity is now multi-purpose; one for protection and the other for style.

With that being said, many of us are working from home to protect ourselves from the Coronavirus.

This sudden change has made us alter our schedule and clothing selections.  Many are logging into meetings while juggling the demands of home.

Luckily, we can join meetings while lounging in our slippers!
