3 Tips To Achieve A Healthy Summer Glow

Depending on where you live, summertime is typically when the sun is shining the brightest. During this season, festivities are at a height, spirits are high, and people are enjoying the many things life has to offer. You may have plans to join in on the fun and therefore, want to ensure you’re looking your best. Seeing as your skin is one of the first things that people see when they look at you, it’s likely that you’re thinking about what you can do to make it glow. The good news is that there are many ways that you can get a summer glow, and this article is going to list a few.

Stay Hydrated

You’ve probably had enough of hearing it, but staying hydrated is a major key when it comes to having glowing skin. If you’ve never really understood how water helps your skin, when your skin is dry, it’s less resilient and elastic which makes it more vulnerable to wrinkling over time. When you drink water, however, it helps flush out toxins and waste products, and by doing so, your skin should clear up whereas when you don’t, the toxins and waste become trapped. In light of this, try to drink at least eight glasses a day. Seeing as this is often a challenge for people, perhaps try carrying water around with you as a reminder and setting phone reminders every few hours.

Cosmetic Procedures

When trying to achieve glowing skin this summer, think about exploring cosmetic procedures as well as natural remedies. Depending on your challenges or what you want to achieve, there are several available that can help you achieve your skin goals. If, for instance, you have fine lines you want to reduce, botox may be ideal; if you’re struggling with ingrown hair bumps, then laser hair removal could be a solution. Likewise, if you want to get rid of acne scars and tighten sagging skin, then skin tightening by Your Laser Skin Care might be the right option for you. You should, however, do enough research beforehand to ensure it’s safe to do the procedure and you’re fully aware of what it entails.

Stick to a Routine

It is important that you understand your skin type as everyone’s skin is different. By doing so, you can explore different products and develop a skin routine that works for you. Some tips on developing a skin routine include knowing your skin as mentioned above, using a gentle cleanser, rinsing your skin with warm water, exfoliating if you have dry, flaky skin, using a toner if you have oily skin, and avoiding products with alcohol if your skin is sensitive. By doing so, you should find that you have consistently decent skin and you also have a unique glow to show for it.

For many people, skin is an important part of their physical appearance and for reasons that are understandable. As mentioned above, there are many ways to ensure your skin is at its best, and many require developing a routine. By doing so, you should find that your skin is enviable and glowing this summer.

Sweat it Out

Sweating is a great way to clear out your pores and make your skin glow afterward. One of the best ways to do this is getting down to the gym, or go for a jog around your local park. It doesn’t matter what kind of exercise you’re doing, as long as you make sure you sweat and get out of breath while you’re doing it. You don’t even need to do it for ages either; twenty minutes would be enough if you worked really hard. Introducing exercise into your routine means regularly clearing out your pores. Sweating is the best way to get your skin to look new and can unclog anything that washing your face, or makeup wipes, might not be able to get. Make sure you sweat a few times each week and your skin will look and feel healthier, not to mention you will feel better about it too.

You could also introduce a spa routine, or use it after you exercise for double the results. The steam room and sauna will make you sweat with no effort at all. This will have similar results to exercise, and if you stay in there long enough, you will definitely build up a huge sweat! Try using the steam room or sauna after your run the best results. Not only will exercise and the spa is great for how your looks and feels, it will reduce stress as well, which can also affect the health and wellbeing of your skin.

Reduce Stress

Exercise and taking some time to relax is fantastic for your skin for many reasons, including reducing stress. Stress and anxiety can have lots of varying effects on your body as well. For some people, this stress manifests on their skin. The life of modern women can be varying difficult at times, what with families, partners, and trying to keep your job going well too. Although you cannot change some of these stresses on your life, you can try to take some time for yourself, which can help to reduce stress.

What kind of things makes you feel relaxed? For some, this is a hot bath, candles, and a good book. For others, this could be taking some time to have a walk in a local park, to get away from the hustle and bustle, that demands so much of you. Everyone’s idea of relaxation is different, so find out what works for you, and make time for it in your life. It is amazing how better your skin can look, and how you can feel when you take steps to reduce stress and lead a more relaxed life.

Taking Your Makeup Off

This might seem obvious, but so many women leave their makeup and products on overnight or for long periods and forget or don’t bother to remove it. It might not seem like this would affect your skin, and you might not see any difference sort time either. Over time though it can affect your skin. Many women need to put more and more makeup on the more they wear it, and so end up leaving more on. Leaving product on your skin means that it can’t breathe overnight, and it can clog your pores up. Make sure you take the time to take off your makeup and product before you go to sleep, so your skin can breathe throughout the night. Letting it have this time to breathe is super important, and can help it look and feel clearer the next day. Then you have a blank canvas to work with the next day when you wake up, a win-win.

Skin Products

Most women should have at least moisturizers amongst their skin products. This is great for when you jump out the shower and need to freshen up your face. Especially if you wear glasses, they can create dry skin where they come into contact with your skin. Making sure your skin is moisturized is a good habit to get into when caring for your skin.  When the weather is cold and windy, it is especially important to make sure you care for your skin, as it can dry out or be affected by colder weather.

There are loads of natural and organic skin products out there too, which could benefit your skin. It is worth researching alternative skin products, like tamanu oil benefits for example. Natural and organic products are going to be so much better for your skin. Artificially sourced materials are good, but natural products will rejuvenate your skin in a completely different way than artificial products.

Wearing sunscreen matters a lot, especially if you live in a sunny area. Incorporating it into your skin care and moisturizing routine each day will ensure your skin is always protected. The sun can have drastic effects on your health, often without you even realizing it, so make sure to protect your skin.

Here are just a few ways you can make your skin look and feel healthier. Reducing stress, making sure you take products off properly and sweating it out, are all great ways to improve the health of your skin. Try some of these today and see the amazing results they can have.

Dealing With Acne Breakouts: What Every Woman Should Consider

When you were little, did you dream of the day pimples wouldn’t be a problem any longer? Every girl did because a zit could be the difference between an easy life and one fraught with self-esteem issues.

Featured Photo from Byrdie

Fast forward a couple of years and, unimaginably, the spots haven’t disappeared. If anything, they are just as bad as before. Okay, the hives of redness are no longer glued to your face, but the little dots still pop up out of nowhere. What happened to girls growing into their bodies?!

The truth is that lots of women deal with breakouts to this day, and it isn’t pretty. To stop it, you have to learn how to prevent the genie from slipping out of the bottle in the first place. Here’s what every woman with skin problems should consider.

Keep It Clean

Acne sufferers can let their daily cleaning habits slip because, well, the worst has already happened. However, the problem with this logic is that the pimples will never clear if you don’t do the basics. And, the simplest tool at your disposal is a cloth and a bar of soap. Washing your face at least twice a day is a fantastic way to keep it pure and rid it of dirt and bacteria. From oil to dead skin cells, blockages occur in the skin on a daily basis, and it is the obstructions that lead to zits. Apart from clearing the pores, it’s also important to add a cleanser to get deep into the cells. There are lots of industry products on the market, but a standard bottle of antiseptic will work wonders.

Moisturize Wisely

There is a lot more to the process than meets the eye. For example, did you know that there are different lotions for various types of skin? Also, did you know that some moisturizers lead to dryness and encourage spots to breakout? Many women don’t know these facts to be true and apply a bog standard lotion without much thought. However, it’s essential to research your condition and take it into account if you are an acne sufferer. An excellent tip is to search for products which have the word non-comedogenic written on the label. In simple terms, it means it doesn’t cause acne. Another factor to keep in mind is sin hydration. Should you have dry skin, an oily lotion is better, but the reverse is true if you have greasy skin.

Avoid Bad Hair Days

What on earth has your hair got to do with acne? Well, the answer is quite a lot. Although you might not realize it, the product from your scalp often pours down on your face. Yep, everything from hairspray to wax and even scented aromas can clog up the face’s cells. When this happens, it encourages bacteria to grow and pimples to form without notice. So, it makes sense to stop the river of chemicals flowing from your hair on your skin. To do this, avoid overdoing it with products such as gels and sprays. Also, keep your fringe away from your forehead if you have one. Any strands with chemicals will automatically transfer to the skin as soon as they touch.

Don’t Conceal It

As soon as a spot pops up, the urge is to cover it with makeup. That’s a job well done, right? Not necessarily because, although it might be a short-term solution, it does long-term damage. Makeup such as foundation and concealer are two of the leading causes of breakouts, and you have to start using them sparingly. If at all possible, don’t use makeup at all on the target area and focus on how to cover acne without concealer. For those who think it’s impossible, organic methods such as ice are excellent ways to reduces blemishes, swelling and redness.

Eat Healthly

Spots occur because of unhealthy cells that, as this post has pointed out, can come from various sources. One cause that you can never forget is a lack of nutrients in the body. Usually, junk food contains all the ingredients that have no benefit on the skin, such as saturated fats. Healthy foods, on the other hand, include everything from omega-3 fatty acids to vitamins, proteins and iron. With extra good bacteria, it’s much easier for the body to fight breakouts and stop acne at the source. Superfoods, ones that have plenty of the good stuff, are things such as asparagus, spinach, avocado and fish.

Spots might be bad, but the excellent news is that dealing with them is straightforward.

Dr. Spiezia – Co-founder and Formulator

Medical herbalist and skin expert at The Walsingham Natural Health Center in Turo, Italy, Dr. Mariano Spiezia has been considered the father of the organic beauty movement in Britain and was voted one of the Top 25, “Who’s who in natural beauty” in 2012 and 2013, 2015 and again in 2016. Dr. Spiezia graduated in Medicine and Surgery in Italy in the early 1980s, and has since worked on combining orthodox medicine with the extraordinary power of nature.

The Bio-lipophilic Matrix ®

For years Dr Spiezia has studied these connections with the idea of empowering the ingredients he uses with a higher frequency to gain a positive resonance on people’s skin and overall health. The result of this research is the Bio-lipophilic Matrix®, which is now at the core of each individual Inlight skincare product.

The Bio-lipophilic Matrix® consists of a specific blend of pure organic, cold-pressed oils selected for their high bio-chemical affinity to the lipidic human skin layer. Prior to production, they are energized by Dr. Spiezia’s bespoke techniques, which combine ancient traditions with modern science. These techniques heighten the oils’ vital force and help re-attune the skin to harmony, health and beauty. This enhanced blend of oils forms the heart of every Inlight product.

The core feature of Inlight’s formulations lies most importantly in the synergy between the individual ingredients. Other key factors are Dr. Spiezia’s medical expertise and Inlight’s carefully designed manual production, including its herbal oil, the base of all INLIGHT products, obtained by infusing the selected herbs in oils. The resultant herbal oil is extremely rich in beta-carotene, antioxidants, and pigments such as chlorophyll.

Entirely Plant Based, Inlight Skincare is suitable for vegetarians and Inlight oils are suitable for vegans. In addition, all Inlight products are microbiologically and nickel tested in the high-tech labs of the Centre of Homeopathic Medicine in Naples (CeMON).

Inlight proudly displays the BUAV accreditation to demonstrate that none of our products or their ingredients has ever been tested on animals.

Desiree’s passion for all things beauty carries over to makeup with game-changing trends, tips, and tricks for flawless skin. Whether you need to know how to treat crow’s feet or under-eye circles, Desiree is your expert.

WnIO-MFX

1. How did you get started in the beauty industry?
The only way I can explain it is fate! Growing up I had my fair share of skin struggles, and my family was on a very limited budget so I needed products that I could buy over-the-counter that would really work.
Unfortunately, nothing seemed to do the trick so I turned to makeup to at least camouflage my breakouts. I got pretty good at doing makeup on myself and others, and my passion for all things beauty carried over into my school work…I still have a report from 8th grade called “Beauty by the Buck” where I analyzed whether or not expensive cosmetic products were better formulated than their drugstore competitors.
Fast-forward to the college years, I graduated with a degree in Communication Studies and went on to work in sales and marketing. All the meanwhile my struggles with acne didn’t let up… nor did my passion for skincare and makeup fizzle out. It was my dream to somehow work in the beauty industry, but I didn’t yet know how that would play out.
One fateful day I saw an ad to work for a “Paula’s Choice Skincare and Cosmetics Company” and several interviews with the legendary Paula Begoun later I KNEW this is where I belonged. Paula took me under her wing, trained me how to interpret cosmetic studies, made me promise to never tan again or she’d fire me  (true story) and taught me why so many skincare products didn’t work like they said they would and what to do instead. Once I got my skin under control I wanted to share that same life-changing info with others, and the rest, as they say, is history! Several years and two books later, here I am.
It feels so serendipitous that everything fell into place at the right time, but really, when I reflect back it’s clear that actually my whole life had been preparing me for this role. God had my plan in motion from the get-go—I just didn’t know it!
 2. What are some of the best beauty products to have radiant skin?
Beta hydroxy acid (BHA) and alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) leave-on exfoliants are game changers. By gently getting rid of the built up layer of dead skin cells, BHA and AHA exfoliants help smooth wrinkles and reveal the radiant skin hiding under a dull complexion. And don’t let the “acid” part of their names scare you… they’re actually gentler on your skin than using a scrub!
In the realm of makeup, a good highlighter works wonders for a youthful glow. Becca Cosmetics makes some of the best luminizing products out there, and just a couple strategically placed highlights can really liven up a drab complexion.
For the days I go without makeup but want a hint of luminosity, I love the Resist Pure Radiance Skin Brightening Treatment from Paula’s Choice. It’s formulated with ingredients that fade discolorations for a more even skin tone + it contains mineral pigments that instantly revitalize and brighten the complexion.
3. Share with us the appropriate age for women to start using anti-aging products?
There isn’t a hard and fast rule, but if you want to keep your skin looking as young and healthy as possible, it pays to start using anti-aging products from the moment you earn your own money to buy them! Think of it like a healthy diet. You wouldn’t prolong eating nutritious, antioxidant-rich foods until you’re in your 40s, right? The same should go for skin. The earlier you start using products loaded with anti-aging ingredients such as antioxidants, retinol, peptides, ceramides, hyaluronic acid, etc., the better off your skin is going to be in the long run.
Above all else, start wearing sunscreen on a daily basis no matter what your age. That’s the #1 way to halt the signs of aging!
 4. What are the top 5 wrinkle creams and skin tighteners?
It’s hard to pick the top five when there are so many great formulas out there, but here are some great wrinkle-fighting and skin-firming options based on the research behind their ingredients:
In terms of traditional “skin tighteners”, the tightening effect of many of these types of products comes from a high amount of film-forming ingredients, which make skin feel tighter temporarily, but skin “feeling” tighter is not the same as making a real change for the long run. However, with products like those mentioned above, you can create healthier, younger-looking skin, and in some cases, increase firmness.
5. In your book, you mentioned natural ingredients that are bad for the skin.  Could you share a few here?
There are many natural ingredients that are brilliant for skin, but there are also many that do much more harm than good. For instance, despite their popularity essential oils such as lavender, rosemary, and jasmine contain volatile, fragrant compounds that incite pro-aging inflammation to the skin. Citrus extracts, such as lemon, grapefruit and orange, should also be avoided due to their sensitizing/irritating effect that impairs the skin’s immune response. Other natural ingredients to watch out for include witch hazel, ylang ylang, arnica, and balm mint oil, just to name a few.
If you’ve ever used products with these kinds of ingredients and wonder why they don’t appear to be problematic for you, keep in mind that research has demonstrated that you don’t need to see or feel irritation for it to be causing damage below the surface layer of skin. They’re sneaky in that way—speeding up the signs of aging without you knowing it.
6. How can readers learn more about your expertise and wonderful book?

Dr. Doris Day and Mary Erhard – Rosacea Treatment & How To Break Up With Your Makeup Contest

Style + Life + Fashion had the opportunity to interview Dermatologist Dr. Doris Day. She is the best-selling author of the book Forget the Facelift and a frequent guest on Good Morning America, The View and the Today Show. Dr. Day is also a clinical associate professor of dermatology at New York University where she was presented with the award for Dedication and Excellence in Teaching Dermatology.

Dr. Day can answer any of your skincare questions, as she discusses rosacea and it’s symptoms. She will be also be joined by Mary Erhard from the National Rosacea Society.

BACKGROUND:

How we physically see ourselves can affect everything from our confidence to how we interact with others. For the 16 million Americans living with the chronic skin disorder rosacea, struggling with their appearance can be a daily battle for many reasons. Since the symptoms of rosacea and acne can appear similar, some people with rosacea misdiagnose themselves as having acne and end up inadvertently treating the wrong condition without success.

In fact, in a recent survey of rosacea patients, nearly half misidentified their rosacea as acne before they were ultimately diagnosed. This can lead to inappropriate use of acne treatments, which has the potential to further exacerbate sufferers’ skin. The survey also found that nearly 30% of rosacea patients wear more makeup now than before they were diagnosed with the condition, which can make symptoms even worse.

Three Beauty Rituals You Should Continue Year Round

Let’s face it, now that the motivation of tiny bikinis and warm summer afternoons has passed, our normal beauty routine tends fall behind. However, regardless if you’re hitting the slopes or in hibernation mode this winter, it’s crucial you keep up with a few beauty rituals regularly. Below are three beauty rituals our industry pros say you should be continuing ALL year, no matter what the season may be:

Don’t Skimp on Sunscreen. Don’t be fooled by lower temperatures, overcast skies or rainy days. UV rays are just as strong when hitting the slopes as they are on the beach. “The easiest way to prevent sun damage and protect your skin is to apply an SPF of at least 30 every day – not to mention, look younger. Reapplying every 2 hours if in the sun is critical as well” says Dr. Nussbaum, Dermatologist and Brand Spokesperson for Sebamed.

Use Hair Masks Regularly. Do you color your hair, straighten it a few times a week or use a lot of hair spray? Adding chemicals, applying heat or using products are habits that we all find hard to kick, and can come with some unwanted side effects. Anna Urban, CEO of AVIVA™ notes that “you should be applying a hair mask like Aviva’s Hair Rescue Renewal Masque 1-2 times per week to repair damage and restore elastic, while replenishing the moisture which often depletes from dry summer heat and the cold winter air.” ($29.95, AvivaHair.com)

AVIVAMask

Wax Even Through Winter. Let’s face it, as the temperature drop we are inevitably becoming a little bit lazier with our normal waxing routine and the motivation for tiny bikinis and warm summer afternoons pass. Noemi Grupenmager, founder and CEO of Uni K Wax Centers notes that “maintaining regular waxes year-round will benefit you in the long run because waxing weakens the hair follicle, causing hair to grow back slower, lighter and thinner over time. Dry, winter hair is more likely to break when waxing, causing it to grow back faster and thicker, so you want to keep skin hydrated and healthy (ie. drink lots of water and exfoliate regularly.)”
