Confusing Baltimore Weather and Confusing Fashion

With the Baltimore area going from beautiful, sunny and warm BUT— back to cold and snowy, we decided to have a little fun by mixing two ends of the fashion weather spectrum by matching a high waist bathing suit with a fox fur coat and UGG boots!!! I had so much fun doing this shoot!

Ann Taylor Spring 2014 Collection: Wardrobe Remix

When it comes to fashion, this spring will be all about cool neutrals and trendy basics. Debuting Ann Taylor’s new Spring 2014 Collection, featuring the ultimate A-list pieces for the modern closet.

Perfectly combining the spring classics that every woman needs from the perfect shirt to slim pants to a classic trench, the spring collection plays on runway trends by adding sheer fabrics, piped lines and stripes in slate grays, creams, navy and black tones. “I like to mix different prints or textures within a color family so you can create this high-low look within your outfit. I think this love affair that we’re having with blush instantly modernizes and feminizes old classics like black and navy,” Creative Director Lisa Axelson says of the new Spring Collection.

Below are a few images from the new spring collection, which will be in stores through April. Please let me know if you are working on any Spring fashion trend stories. I’d be glad to provide Ann Taylor’s full Spring look book for consideration for any fashion roundup, trend stories or cover shoots. Images featuring Kate Hudson, the face of Ann Taylor for Spring 2014, are also available.

Handbag Accessories: Take Your Purse from Drab to Fab {VIDEO}

Handbags are one of my favorite accessories.  I like having my items organized and in one place when it’s time head out.

But aside from having a beautiful designer purse, I also enjoy adding my personal style to bags with a few accessories.  It’s great to own several handbags (whether they’re designer, vintage, or just a good deal) but here’s a question, “are they enhancing your overall look or simply blending in with your trousers?”

The video below talks more about how we can add a special touch to our handbags while looking fabulous.  I hope it encourages everyone to place a charm, scarf, or have their initials stamped on their bag.

Winter Clothing Guide: Guest Post from Danielle Ward {MUST READ}

Winters are perfect for letting the flavors of fashion flow. However, the cold could force you to shut the creativity out to ensure that you stay warm enough. Thankfully, you have this quick guide to awesome winter clothing.

Long jackets with jeans – You could have easily guessed it. No guide on winter clothing can afford to leave out this time tested and future proof style. If you are not particularly impressed with the fact that your envious curves get hidden because of the long jacket, then try leaving the front of the jacket open and using a string belt to let great shapes and curves dazzle everybody.

Short jacket with long boots to stay and look hot in winters – This is a timeless combination. Short jackets will never be out of fashion, and if you could throw in a bit of smart formals, you are in for a killer look this winter. A snug formal trouser that matches your short jacket would definitely make you stand apart from the routine dressers. Not only is such a style easy to carry off, it will also let you wear your style statements to work every day, without attracting raised eyebrows.

Trend it up with trench coats – The trendy uptown girl who always seems to get all the boys’ attention knows how to match things up in the winters. It’s time you learned some tricks and hit the hot charts of all the guys in the neighborhood and college. Not only will your trench coat give you more height, it will also lend elegance to your personality. Grab a cool scarf from a trendy online apparel store and wrap it around your neck with its ends dropping on the bosom of the coat. Then, your shiny shoes will seal the deal and give you the smart and stylish look you always craved for. Not to mention, the trench coat keep the cold away!

Tees and hoodies – If jackets and coats are not for you, then you can take the layering route to winter dressing. Get a plain colored top and layer a deep neck tee over it. Then, grab a hoodie and leave it half unzipped. Not only will you keep the cold away, but also will enjoy light clothing as compared to the heavy jackets that can sometimes weight you down. You’ll have many trendy hoodies up for grab at online fashion destinations like Milanoo.

Accessorize yourself up – Yes, you could put up a remarkable different outlook every day of the week if you know how to play it smart with your accessories. Even if you have just your heavy grey coat to provide you the warmth you need while having fun outdoors with your pals, then also your accessories will save the day for you. Depend on big and bright handbags to give you a new shade every day. Then, there are so many great colors in which you can find some awesome winter boots. With different bags and boots combining to lend you newer colors every day, your winters will be warm and stylish, and that’s what you want!

Only In America Clothing Line debuts in Baltimore: {Event Recap} from Candice Nicole PR

Sunday afternoon, Kevin “Trix” Bent debuted his new clothing line ‘Only In America’ to the public at a creative space in the arts district of Baltimore, MD. It was a concept born in 2012 when Kevin was incarcerated.  During this time period Kevin felt like the world had turned their back on him, with only a handful of friends that kept in contact. The struggle to keep sane became a daily task and that is when Kevin began to reflect on one of his true passions, one being fashion.  Kevin states that “Through the difficult  adversities I kept a positive mindset and created my clothing line ‘Only In America’ for people of all cultures and for individuals who feel “incarcerated” in their own mind set. Whether it be mentally or physically when you remain positive through the your turmoil you can have everything you dream of. My personal story exemplifies how “Only in America” can you “loose it all” and gain back more than you could have ever imagined.

Attendees, which included some of the top tastemakers in Baltimore, including event promoters, music industry individuals, fashion media and more enjoyed light fare, champagne and fashion forward music.  ‘Only in America’ will serve as a way of life, a fresh outlook on life that men and women can strive to live. The line will feature select designs of t-shirts, hats, and sweatshirts. Each design has its own story and is truly a piece of art and when you put on a ‘Only In America’; garment a sense of confidence will come over you. The collection features pieces inspired by American Legends such as Andy Warhol to the true American Dream; being famous.

VMA’s 2013 Fashionable Moments: The Editor’s Likes and Issues…Let’s Talk About It!

The Video Music Awards is one of the most fashionable moments where a music artist can shine.

Celebrities can push the limits while introducing a new trend or bring back a touch of “rock and roll” glamour.

And then there’s the select few that leave us confused and wondering what happened to their look.  Needless to say, no matter how it’s addressed, fashion’s a huge component of the VMA’s and it’s always fun to recap the selections that we saw (on our television screens.)

Photos below are from Elle Magazine.

elle-mtv-movie-awards-ciara-xln-lgn

Ciara

My Like: The dress is very couture and her body looks great!  The bead work mixed with orstrich feathers looks amazing.  My Issue: This is very similiar to a look  we have seen at another event.

elle-mtv-movie-awards-miley-cyrus-xln-lgn

Miley Cyrus

My Like: The beading stitched on the top and leggings looks gorgeous.  My Issue: I am not sure what’s going on with her hairstyle (looks very pre – k) and maybe a pair of stilletos would’ve pulled this look together.

elle-mtv-movie-awards-taylor-swift-xln-lgn

Taylor Swift

My Like: Taylor looks very grown up and elegant. My Issue: This entire look would be great for the Oscars. She could’ve pushed the limits a bit more.

elle-mtv-movie-awards-ellie-goulding-xln-lgn

Ellie Goulding

My Like: She did it just right! The spikes on her dress add a touch of rock and roll also her nude pumps are the exact shade of her dress which elongates her torso. My Issue: I don’t have any issues with this look!

elle-mtv-movie-awards-rita-ora-xln-lgn

Rita Ora

My Like: The tail on this dress is very eye catching with orstrich feathers and a beautiful shade of blue.  The bodice also stands out because it’s completely beaded with a plunging neckline.  My Issue: This hairstyle has been seen on another artist (smile.)

elle-mtv-movie-awards-selena-gomez-xln-lgn

Selena Gomez

My Like: She did it just right! Her hair style and dress fit looks perfect. And I like the trend of wearing a hint of lingerie.  My Issue: I don’t have any issues with this look!

elle-mtv-movie-awards-joan-smalls-xln-lgn

Joan Smalls

My Like: The chanel boots look great with her legs and skirt length.  My Issue: This look is a bit premature for the celebrity.

elle-mtv-movie-awards-lady-gaga-xln-lgn

Lady Gaga

My Like: This is a very cohesive look. She gave us the exact amount of “goth” with a hint of feminity with an oversized bow and heart shape neckline.  My Issue: I don’t have any issues with this look!

elle-mtv-movie-awards-jennifer-hudson-xln-lgn

Jennifer Hudson

My Like: The houndstooth print (which I think is also leather) coordinates well with her skirt and pumps.  My Issue: I don’t have any issues with this look!

FALL 2013 Women’s Trends List

A Red Affair
Red captures her essence. Throughout decades and diverse cultures, it has long been the ultimate expression of love, emotion and power. And now, her dream wardrobe has arrived in a spectrum of the hue’s most splendid shades, from bright to Bordeaux. The look is bold and authoritative, yet feminine, with an emphasis on high tech materials, luminous embellishments, fur details, shine and luxurious fabrications. Leather rules, done in sheath dresses, soft pants, minimalistic tops and pencil skirts, as well as revamped outerwear. Leather is also important in graphic clutch silhouettes to utility backpacks, while ruby stones with brass hardware can be found on the suede single sole bootie.

Urban Utility
For her, fashion marches to a military beat this fall. Think rescaled, recolored and DIY camouflage. The cargo jacket, vest and pants join the ranks in different styles, from tailored to oversized, along with retro bomber jackets and traditional pea coats. Equipment shirts resurface. Utilitarian chic is redefined, especially when the unexpected elements come into play. Work in surplus boots, backpacks and utility belts.

The Modernist
She believes in new minimalism, a return to innovation with high-tech materials. The palette consists of soft neutrals to bold brights, often combined for sophisticated effects. Track pants add a certain “sport allure” with reinvented sweatshirts. Her style is a reinterpretation of basic silhouettes, but with totally new volumes, color blocking and banding combinations. Suede and leather are no longer statement pieces but the foundation of a complete head-to-toe look.

The Artist
Her body is a canvas. The curator of her own inimitable style, she artfully fuses graphic, stylized and surrealist patterns as well as Asian influences, artistic collage, dark florals and unusual layering. This trend includes a palette of muted jewel tone sometimes in graduated color ways. Expect lots of shine in jacquard materials, lace as a key fabrication and new knits with textural effects, intarsias and mixed media. The Grandpa cardigan and crew sweater look especially fresh when worn with jacquard silk printed matchstick pants and pencil skirts.

The Dandy
She embraces her femininity by stealing masculinity. The match set takes a new dimension from shirts with skirts or pants. It’s the return of the pantsuit in 70’s-inspired geometric patterns. Glen plaids and tweeds are another focus of her gender-blended look. She commands attention with military details and equestrian silhouettes. Peplum shapes and triple layering give an extra dimension to this new aristocratic attitud

The Collector

She is eccentric and mysterious; a “femme fatale” with an eye for eclectic excess inspired by the historical decadence of decades past. Medieval prints to ecclesiastic craft and Gothic inspiration play a big role here. Embellishment becomes positively ornamental with bold cabochon beading on jackets, dresses or skirts. Gold Baroque details and intricate scrolling

In Black & White
In her eyes, everything is black or…white! Optional primary accents of color may add a stunning contradiction. You’ll see everything from conversational, landscape, surrealist patterns, photo prints and stylized black and white florals. Bold black and white banding or color blocking and sheer detail come into play as well. There is also a surprising juxtaposition of leather, ciré, velvet and new geometrics. With the “iconic” Pierrot clown as her muse, the mood is romantic, unsuspecting and totally mesmerizing.
