2020 Trends: The Fashion Forward Face Mask

Face masks are fast becoming the 2020 fashion trend. Lady Gaga appeared at the MTV VMA awards show early this week, wearing a different matching face mask with each wardrobe change (it’s Gaga, there were 7!). It’s a fashion movement borne of necessity rather than the advancement of trends. It’s reported that two-thirds of all US adults started to wear masks regularly between this past March and June. It will be a while before full-reopening; meanwhile as Americans venture out of their houses to enjoy socially distanced drinks, and the return of the drive-in movie, choice of face wear is now the thing to check for before leaving the house. Designers are taking notice, with new fashion-forward facial coverings on the high end going for $450.

Rakesh Tammabattula is the founder and CEO of QYK Brands, a manufacturing company of several beauty and wellness products that tapped into producing PPE surgical face masks, respirators, goggles, hand sanitizers, and more as the pandemic took a full swing.

Frederic Aspiras styles Lady Gaga for the 2018 Grammy Awards

For last night’s Grammy Awards red carpet, Lady Gaga’s hair made a Victorian goth statement with a corseted romantic braid.

Inspiration: Frederic was inspired by the design of Lady Gaga’s dress – it immediately reminded him of the gowns and corsets of the Victorian era.

Step by step:

  • Start by spraying John Frieda Luxurious Volume Full Hydration Detangling Mist throughout the hair to help comb out any tangles
  • Then, apply John Frieda Luxurious Volume Perfectly Full Mousse to give the hair volume and texture, before creating a center part, and blow drying with a diffuser to set the hair
  • Next, while braiding both sides, apply John Frieda Frizz Ease Clearly Defined Gel to control and maintain the smoothness of the two side braids. Braid all the way down and tie the ends with a clear elastic. Then, weave the corset
  • To finish and hold the style, spray John Frieda Luxurious Volume Forever Full Hairspray

If you’ve always wanted to feel like a celebrity or look like one, then today’s the day to make it happen. All you need is a few style secrets and you’ll be ready for the paparazzi’s.

Figure Hugging Fashion

Thanks to social media, one of the easiest ways to look and feel like a star, is to dress like them. The best way that celebrities show off their style is by wearing things that flatter their figures and make them feel good. Of course, some things will be more expensive than others, but you can find affordable options to dress like your favorite celebrities, especially when it comes to jeans.

Be Bold

When you look at celebrity style, one thing that you’ll probably notice is that it’s not always understated. Celebrities always wear what they want, when they want. They style fashion in their own way and nine times out of ten; it works for them. And that’s the best thing that you can take away from celebrity style. If you want to dress like them, then you need to tap into your inner confidence.

TV Style

We all have our favorite TV shows and a lot of the time; we can see things that people wear and fall absolutely in love with it. When that happens, more often than not, the brand that made the item will share it online or in the news. So, it’s easier than ever to recreate your favorite looks from shows using items from the brands you love, or even buy the exact items.

Model Off Duty

Another secret that you can steal from celebrities is that killer ‘model off duty’ look that famous models are known for wearing. Jeans, tees, boots, and a jacket and you’re good to go. It’s not even just something that models wear; celebs do it too. So if you ever feel like looking amazing with zero effort, opt for that, throw on some sunglasses are you’re good to go.

Beauty Bites

And how could we forget about the beauty secrets of celebrities? The entire look of a celebrity wouldn’t be complete without hair and makeup. We all look at celebrities and admire their hair and their makeup, and we can finally recreate their looks. You only have to look at Kim Kardashian to know how popular celebrity makeup has become. Not only can we now contour like a celebrity makeup artist, but we can also learn how to blow dry like a hairstylist to the stars too. So if you want to brush up on your skills, it’s time to head to YouTube and pick up a new trick or two.

LADY GAGA AND SIR ELTON JOHN PARTNER WITH MACYS: LOVE BRAVERY COLLECTION

Macys has partnered with Grammy® and Golden Globe®-winning icon Lady Gaga, as well as Grammy-, Tony®- and Academy Award®-winning legend Sir Elton John to create Love Bravery, a high-spirited, limited-edition line of clothing and accessories that inspire compassion and combat prejudice. Available as part of Macy’s American Icons campaign, Love Bravery spans several categories, including shirts, sweats, outerwear, clutches, backpacks, scarves, beanies, keychains, pins, and even speakers, water bottles and skateboards, all rendered in vibrant graphic prints and designs that fuse both artists’ renowned musical talent and revered inimitable style.

“It’s an honor to team up with Sir Elton John to create this line with Macy’s,” said Lady Gaga. “We need to make the world a kinder and braver place where men and women everywhere are empowered to live with compassion. That’s what Born This Way Foundation is all about, that’s what the Elton John AIDS Foundation is all about, and that’s what Love Bravery is all about.”

Love Bravery Lady Gaga and Elton John

“I love the idea of fusing who you are on the inside – your passions and dreams – with what you wear on the outside,” said Sir Elton John. “Love Bravery is about the compassion on the inside to understand someone’s fears, and the bravery on the outside to stand up for them, and for yourself: to accept others for who they are and to be who you want to be. It’s what I‘ve tried to do in my life, my career and with the Elton John AIDS Foundation, and it’s a passion Lady Gaga and I share. So I’m thrilled we are collaborating on this project and delighted Macys understood our dream to connect with people this way.”

Created in collaboration with Lady Gaga’s sister, Natali Germanotta, and designer Brandon Maxwell, the limited line boasts fresh crop tops and sleeveless tees in stark black-and-white, while heather sweatshirts with tonal graphics and tops with metallic lettering are edgy updates to the athleisure trend. Oversized scarves with piano key prints and artistic interpretations of Lady Gaga’s face are stylishly offbeat, and neoprene backpacks that say “LOVE” and also have piano key prints are super cool must-haves. With enamel pins and patches in the shape of moto jackets, electric guitars, microphones, platform shoes and Lady Gaga’s infamous claw, the options to show off your inner little monster are endless. Clutches in the shape of sunglasses, pianos and hearts are unapologetically fun and sassy.

Love Bravery Shop

“In addition to being deeply talented musical artists, Lady Gaga and Sir Elton John are champions of self-love, courage, empathy and kindness, and Love Bravery represents all of those tenets,” said Martine Reardon, Macys chief marketing officer. “We are so proud to present a line that is not only fun and bold, but also stands for something so meaningful and important. The work they do through Born This Way Foundation and the Elton John AIDS Foundation is invaluable and truly changes lives, and Macys is honored to partner with them to spread the message of love and acceptance.”

Born This Way Foundation is committed to supporting the wellness of young people and empowering them to create a kinder and braver world by shining a light on real people, supporting quality research, and fostering meaningful partnerships focused on social emotional learning (SEL) and mental health awareness and resources. The Elton John AIDS Foundation raises much-needed funds for evidence-based programs that give people the information and tools to protect and care for themselves and those they love – challenging stigma, reducing the spread of HIV and preventing people from getting sick or dying of AIDS.

About Elton John AIDS Foundation

The Elton John AIDS Foundation (EJAF) is dedicated to reducing the spread of HIV/AIDS through innovative HIV prevention programs, eliminating the stigma and discrimination associated with HIV/AIDS and supporting direct care for people living with HIV/AIDS.

Sir Elton John created EJAF over twenty years ago, first in the United States in 1992 and then in the United Kingdom in 1993. Since then, the two organizations have raised nearly £220m (over $350m) and reached over 150 million people across four continents.  We work with local, national and international organizations to provide non-discriminatory HIV information, testing and treatment services that stop people becoming infected with HIV or getting sick and dying of AIDS.  This has meant funding some 1,500 programs including providing HIV tests to over 20 million people, and treatment prevention for more than 800,000 pregnant woman living with HIV so that they could protect their babies from the HIV virus.  The Foundation also prioritizes those who are highly vulnerable to HIV and the stigma that surrounds it in many parts of the world such as men who engage in male-to-male sex, people who use drugs and people who sell sex. Our work with Love Bravery will go towards prevention and treatment programs for adolescents living with HIV. AIDS is the second leading cause of death for 10-19 year olds worldwide.

1. Start with clean towel dried hair. First apply KMS California TAMEFRIZZ smoothing lotion (18.99) from root to tip and comb through for even distribution.

2. Next, spray KMS California ADDVOLUME volumizing spray (18.99) at the roots to create big voluminous hair.

3. Give a light mist of KMS California FREESHAPE quick blow dry spray (21.99) to reduce drying time and get a smooth fly-away free result to your blow dry.

4. Next, section the hair for blow drying. Using a medium round brush, drying with an up and around movement to get full volume.

5. Using a 1-inch curling iron, take 1-inch sections of hair and curl the hair all back and away from the face. Take a velcro roller and set each curl after you curl only using medium to small curlers. Allow rollers to set and cool. After, 15-20 minutes remove curlers.

6. To finish, brush the hair out with a sable bristle brush. Use KMS California HAIRPLAY playable texture ($20.50) to spray waves and curls in place but still maintain a soft bouncy look.
