Paris Fashion Week: Kristina Fidelskaya RTW Show

The inspirations for Kristina Fidelskaya’s new Ready-to-Wear collection are multiple: A touch of androgyny in reference to bowie coming out of the Carlyle Hotel in New York in the 70s, the nonchalance of Parisian women walking down the Avenue Hoche in the 90’s blended with the timeless and chic simplicity of Elsa Peretti for Halston. And of course,  the presence of the signature Kristina Fidelskaya dress coat.

As the wife of the poet, Henri de Regnier said about the creations of Mariano Fortuny, ” The dresses usually, have only one future, these dresses already seem to have a past that will add a graceful melancholy”. The collections of Kristina Fidelskaya have this striking particularity with the creations of Mariano Fortuny that is seen evident in her Autumn Winter 18-19 collection, ” NuovoInizio”.

A collection with a touch of Montana, with its oversize shoulders, its precise silhouettes that mark and draw the waist, in a spirit of deconstruction, soft tailoring, and natural elegance. Geoffrey Beene’sgraphic line blends into the fluid movement of the silk fringes of the 1970s. A resolutely elegant wardrobe, easy to wear, but also and above all timeless, punctuated with coated shearling and silk mousseline fil coupe, for a cocooning effect.

Throughout the silhouettes, there is comforting pure cashmere mixed with laminated cotton, dry wool, and silk, inspired by the colors and textures of the work of Alberto Burri on the combustion of vinyl, which one imagines taking life on a Stella Tennant.

We also can feel this signature, on the glossy gabardines for an ultra- soft touch, in the ebony black metallic jersey, the matt papery leather, and the fluid silk fringes.

Kristina succeeds a mixture of idealized past and assumed modernity, a revisited search for lost past, for a strong, rebellious woman who can let go when she decides, and only then, the soft flaw of an immaculate white mousseline.

Today, New Orleans Fashion Week (NOFW) announces its 2018 schedule of events. The exclusive affair is slated to deliver its audience an exciting program with authentic New Orleans flair that artistically connects fashion, culture, art, history and more.

Since its inception in 2011, NOFW has been setting the stage for style along the Gulf Coast by ushering in the Southern region’s premier fashion tastemakers. The weeklong event aims to establish a strong awareness of local designers, models and beauty artisans, as well as to increase economic growth by creating a sustainable fashion community. This year, as the city celebrates its Tricentennial, NOFW will add an element of history to its body of work by presenting “300 Years of Fashion in New Orleans,” an event dedicated to highlighting the evolution of fashion in the region.

“In New Orleans we take great pride in our diverse culture and heritage, and that plays such a big part in the fashion scene,” said NOFW founder Tracee Dundas. “The fashion industry is inspired and motivated by the unique cultural attributes of our city. We are so excited to incorporate select iconic traditions that lend to the evolution of fashion, not only in New Orleans, but around the world.”

Each year, NOFW strives to bring attention to the Southern fashion community using this event as the catalyst of brand exposure, industry education, and resource sharing. NOFW attendees can expect to see a diverse range of fashion from local and internationally known designers including the accomplished talent, Stevie Boi.

This year, New Orleans Fashion Week is partnering with New Orleans Entrepreneur Week to add a fashion pitch component to the Top Design Competition. “Fashion designers are creative individuals with a natural entrepreneurial spirit,” said Dundas. “The ten Top Design Competition finalists will have the opportunity to compete their collections on the NOFW runway, as well as further their business goals by taking their concept from the runway to retail.”

NOFW has seamlessly elevated the brands of Gulf Coast designers with runway shows, presentations, and events infused with New Orleans culture. In its eighth year, NOFW promises to deliver world-class couture, connect designers with opportunities and impress event attendees with fashion-forward designs, while paying homage to a city renowned and celebrated for its unique, eclectic style.

Christopher Bailey’s Final Burberry Collection and Video Highlights for London Fashion Week

Burberry tonight celebrated ‘Time’, Christopher Bailey’s final collection for the brand, against a multisensory installation that forms part of a new collaboration with United Visual Artists (UVA).

‘Our Time’, a piece of work on loan from the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) in Australia, investigates the subjective experience of the passing of time through movement, light and sound, and was reimagined in collaboration with Christopher, to provide the backdrop to the runway collection. The installation’s pendulums swung to their own rhythm in time to the show’s soundtrack by Jimmy Somerville, The Communards and Bronski Beat.

Models including past and present campaign stars Adwoa Aboah, Jean Campbell, Montell Martin and Edie Campbell – who appeared in her first Burberry campaign in 2006 – revealed the collection, which revisited past icons and house codes, including the trench coat, the aviator, the cape, the poncho and the military coat as well as introduced new designs.

The Rainbow check, the latest iteration of Burberry’s most iconic symbol and designed as part of Christopher’s dedication of his last collection to LGBTQ+ communities, featured throughout the show. A capsule of reissued archive pieces from the 1980s and 1990s rereleased as part of this collection is now available for immediate purchase.

Cara Delevingne, discovered by Christopher and Burberry over seven years ago, closed the show and led the finale as models walked under a spectrum of rainbow laser lights.

Over 1300 guests attended to watch the show including close Burberry friends and family including Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, Keira Knightley, Zendaya Coleman, Naomi Watts, Michelle Dockery, Naomie Harris, Iris Law, Lily James, Matt Smith, Jourdan Dunn, Kate Mara, Idris Elba, Domhnall Gleeson, Tom Holland, Paris Jackson, James Righton, Zhou Dongyu, Chelsea Clinton, Nicholas Hoult, Poppy Delevingne, Alexa Chung, George Ezra, James Bay, Paloma Faith, Liam Gallagher, Skepta, Tinie Tempah, Tom Odell, Jorja Smith, Blondey McCoy, Gosha Rubchinskiy, Lucy Moore, Matt Clark, Jamie Bell, Tessa Thompson, Anya Taylor-Joy, Koharu Sugawara, Daphne Guinness, Stephen Jones, Mason Lee, Law Roach, Ji Woo Choi, Steve McQueen and Angela Ahrendts.

‘My final collection here at Burberry is dedicated to – and in support of – some of the best and brightest organisations supporting LGBTQ+ youth around the world. There has never been a more important time to say that in our diversity lies our strength, and our creativity.’

Malan Breton AW 18 Collection #NYFW

Renowned for his innate theatricality and artistic flavor, Malan Breton delivers a collection with depth, soul, and literary references. Inspiration derived from Edwardian Tarot, Merlin, Chinese astrology and The myth of the four horsemen of the apocalypse. The four riders are seen as symbolizing Conquest, War, Famine, and Death.
“This collection has been a journey of self-realization, a point of gaining ones hope back in humanity. Rebuilding one’s shell, one’s armour, one’s heart. Love lost, valour, and watching gluttony, and greed change humanity for the worst….” – Malan Breton
Malan’s work echoes his deepest personal preoccupations. With that, this fighting collection was built with the structure of strength in mind. Calculated decadence, rendered in a split between strong and seductive; the epitomisation of femininity.
Staying true to his Asian roots, opulent color and exotic Swarovski embellishment reaches its apotheosis in this hair-raising debouch of pieces. All mastered by antique Asian techniques of weaving, embroidery and dying.
Fabrics used are all things chinoiserie-inspired; silk organza, silk tulle, silk brocade, reimagined kimono fabrics specially woven as well as Chinese brocades. Toughened by shearling, leather, tweed, Angora, feathers, glass beading and tourmaline. Malan sticks with his sustainable elements of recycled bottles created into paillettes.
Not for the faint-hearted, this collection stands firm for battle.

ZIAD NAKAD Couture Show: PARIS HAUTE COUTURE FASHION WEEK

“I am Demeter, revered by all, the power most useful for gods and men,”
For his Spring Summer 2018 collection, Ziad Nakad decided to celebrate the “Goddess of wheat” and “Mother of the Earth”. Goddess who gathers the fruits of the earth and offers them to humanity; its cult is particularly flourishing in the countries where this wheat is found in abundance, in Sicily, in the region of Eleusis, in Crete, in Thrace, and in the Peloponnese.

Like a bird flying over the harvests, perfectly free, crossing a colorful sky, resplendent and singularly geometric: the pale blue of the firmament mixes with the yellow and gold of the wheat, the green of the earth, the coral of the ocean and the bronze trees at sunset. Wheat ears dot the dresses, a tribute to the most iconic representation of the goddess Demeter. Dress after dress, Ziad Nakad plays a subtle game that celebrates life in a precise mastered know-how and silk embroidery sublimated tulles.

Ziad Nakad created this collection for a strong woman, assumed, voluntary but also and especially generous, inspired by one of the most favorable deities to humans, as a symbol of accomplishment and peace.
