Fall 2013 Fashion Designer Trends and Collections Part II

Below are photos that provide inspiration for Fall 2013, when we consider building our wardrobe.  Based upon my previous post, “Fall 2013 Beauty Trends and Accessories” I like to stay abreast of what’s current and new as it relates to fashion, beauty, and style.

My motivation behind this post series (or more so incorporating a trends element to this blog) steams from my family and friends asking what’s popular for the upcoming season.  The people in my life acknowledge that this is my passion and therefore come to me for wardrobe advice.

Therefore, this particular write – up centers around designer trends (for the fall) that have graced the runway last Spring.   I decided to compile a few looks and hopefully they will  help “spruce” up a few items you already own.  And don’t forget, it’s always great to find inspiration but learn to make every look your own!

Fall 2013 Beauty and Accessories Trends: Part I

From a blogger’s perspective, I always like to know what’s “hot” for the next upcoming season.  And honestly, I do not consider myself to be “trendy” but I do believe in the concept of “refreshing” your wardrobe.

Life is too short to wear boring clothes (via my Instagram post) and dressing is a form of personal expression.  It’s how you present yourself to the world and most importantly, it shows everyone how you feel about yourself.

My philosophy is that anyone can refresh their wardrobe without having to spend their life savings.  A simple bracelet or new shade of lipstick can do wonders for your wardrobe, mood, or even your professional life.

I have to give credit to one of my favorite magazines, Instyle (I’ve been reading since I was a teenager) for telling us the new, runway inspired looks.

In conclusion, it’s fun and easy to select a trend but don’t forget that true style is making a look your own!

{REPOST} Dressing for a Fashion Event 101

To support the fashion industry in the state of Maryland, I will be attending Baltimore Fashion Week 2012. Although it’s exciting to see what each designer has to offer, there’s always a question of, “What should I wear to a fashion show or how should I dress?”

Whether it’s Mercedes Benz Fashion Week or you’re attending Fashion’s Night Out, most participants want to look sleek, chic, and pulled together.   And it doesn’t hurt to try a new trend or wear something that’s created by the designer.

But, if you want to make a statement, keep in mind (when shopping) what’s your personal style.  Below I have created some style inspiration for attending a fashion event!

Dressing For A Fashion Event 101:

1.   Support the Designer (if you can) and wear something from a previous collection.

2.  Seek to look casual and chic.  For example, wear a pair of well fit slacks and blazer; a sheath dress with pumps; or jumpsuit with bold accessories.

3.  Take into consideration the time and season of the event. Most shows happen early fall, mid winter, and early spring.

4.  Carry an oversized bag or clutch for your camera, notebook, e tablet, or any other important accessories.

5.  If you’re walking to a variety of shows, parties, or boutiques keep a pair of flats in your purse.  Nothing is worth having foot pain at the end of the night!

Color Blocking: The Guidelines

Color Blocking is the latest trend for Spring/Summer 2012.  Ladies everywhere are mixing and matching their favorite shades to create a chic look.

But color can affect you in a variety of ways.  For example, color can change your mood, style, and even your complexion!

And although we are eager to partake in the latest trend, there are certain guidelines that we should follow for selecting colors.  Most importantly, your selection of color will largely depend on your body shape and personality.

GUIDELINES for CHOOSING COLORS

*  Choose a neutral or basic color that could be worn often (black, beige, navy blue.)

*  Light and bright colors are great to play up your best features.  Example, a yellow blouse can be worn to accentuate bronzed skin.

* Any color can be worn with black!

*  Use a color wheel to help figure what shades are monochromatic and complimentary.

*  If you want to look tall and slimmer wear a contrast of one color; to appear heavier in one area wear bold, bright colors.

*  Remember, colors provoke feelings.  For example, red represents power while blue is calming.

Also, don’t just color block with your clothing but it can also be done with your make up/cosmetics.  How many times have we seen a great manicure with a variety of fun hues?

Ultimately, color blocking is the mixing of colors within the same family but with the right touch anyone can look like a star!
