Restaurant Dining and Favorite Dishes – Lifestyle

azumi3 azumi FullSizeRender

Azumi:  Stylish Japanese restaurant in the Four Seasons Hotel with sushi, seafood, steaks, sake & cocktails.

I want to share some of the delicious restaurants in this area.  Baltimore is really a melting pot of various cultures which means the food can be amazing!  I love to cook for my family but there are moments when we want to taste something different.  The term different could mean sushi, afghan cuisine, authentic italian, or whatever suits our taste buds for the evening.  I contribute this interest to my husband; he’s an adventurous eater and has a wide taste palate.

Naturally, I grew up in the deep south and love comfort food.  Nothing can replace a creamy sauce or peach cobbler but I’m also intrigued by cultural dishes.  It gives me the experience of integrating into someone else’s culture and lifestyle.  I consider myself a lifelong learner and find people to be very interesting.  I enjoy knowing the purpose behind certain meals, cutlery used, and the fashion worn during specific ceremonies. This could also be due to teaching a Cultural Foods course many years ago (prior to blogging.)

I will share more of the dishes I like to eat and hope that you will try them as well.  Also, tag me (on social media) in your favorite restaurant or food choices!

Summer 2015 Recap: Fun In The Sun

Summer’s the time of year I reconnect with my family and friends.  Although I adore the Fall, I try to enjoy a little fun in the sun!  My boys are out for the summer and as a mom it’s important to make memories before they start summer jobs, traveling abroad, or preparing for college.

I also like to grab some adult time with a glass of wine (or cocktail) sip gourmet coffee and share laughs with my best friends.  I live here in Maryland but I was born and raised in Alabama; I move around (now) like a city girl but still a southerner at heart.  I guess that explains my cooking hobby and outdoor living.  I learned at an early age that serving a hearty dish brings people together.

IMG_6269

One hidden secret that many may not know is that Alabama has some great thrift stores!  I participate in a good ole’ thrifting session while visiting the heart of dixie.  My normal finds include heirloom items, knick knacks, and various clothing items.  If you’re a true southern girl, one can not forget to visit the local water park (because it’s hot) and host a family barbecue.  My dad will normally cook on the grill; our barbecues are fairly traditional, eating hotdogs, steaks, or seafood.

Summer would not be eventful without a trip to the Smithsonian Institute.  I love the nostalgia of statues and museums.  They’re constantly updating and you never know what’s in store when you visit.  Life can get pretty hectic but don’t forget to relax, rejuvenate and feed your soul!

Other random things I do in the summer –

Read a good novel

Visit the Pool (often)

Dance at a Concert

Golf Outing

Arts & Crafts

Watch Fireworks

Shop The Farmers Market

Enjoy Netflixs

How To Throw A Labor Day Party – Limor Suss

Lifestyle and Entertaining Expert, Limor Suss shares tips for the perfect Labor Day Party

IMG_2439

LABOR DAY PARTY TIPS

  1. How do you select a theme for your Labor Day Party?

Pick a theme that’s simple to put together and utilizes items you have in your house already so you’re not going out and buying a bunch of stuff.

The theme all depends on what type of party you want to throw. If you’re hosting a casual backyard barbecue, then the theme should be just as simple, but if you want to throw a lavish cocktail affair, then it’s fun to be a little more creative.

  1. What’s the best location to celebrate with family and friends?

An outdoor location is definitely best, especially if the weather is nice. Labor Day is one of your last chances to celebrate the summer with friends and family, so having a party in a park or someone’s backyard is preferable.

  1. In your opinion, should the menu be potluck meal or grilled delights?

It really depends on the size of your party. If you’re having a small, intimate gathering, it’s nice to give your guests a home grilled meal, but for larger parties, I like to do a combination of potluck and day-of grilling.

  1. What are some popular activities to help create a fun environment?

Setting up different games and sports for the kids is always fun. You want to make sure they are having fun while the adults are socializing. I also love a good grill-off – it’s fun to have the self-proclaimed “best grillers” show off their skills and the results are delicious.

  1. Should there be a dress code or come as you are?

You don’t have to have a dress code because you want everyone to be comfortable, but one thing I like to do is create a custom t-shirt for my friends and family to wear – I like to use CustomInk.com because they make the design process really easy. Having a custom t-shirt that everyone can wear is a great way to bring everyone together as one big family, and it makes a nice surprise gift. Your group selfies will also look really cool if you’re all wearing the same t-shirt.

  1. Where can we go to learn more tips?

Head over to my blog TrendsGirl.com, I’m always sharing great tips for planning family gatherings.

National Coffee Month Lifestyle Segment – WBAL TV Baltimore

August was National Coffee Month and people everywhere celebrated this delicious beverage.  I’m an avid coffee drinker and brew a pot daily.  Some people like to enjoy a cup of tea but there’s a few tricks to brewing coffee at home.

Kimberly West

I like to use filtered water for the best results; add hazelnut (or vanilla) syrup along with creamer and sugar.  If you’re monitoring your sugar intake, substitute with a sweetener.  Take your coffee up a notch by adding whipped cream and cinnamon.  As a hobby, my mom and I like to purchase flavored coffee beans such French Roast, Pumpkin, or Caramel Pecan.  It’s fun to taste the various spices and scents!

Also, the best place to store a bag of coffee is in a cool, airtight container to ensure the flavor’s not lost.  Last Sunday, I had the chance to share coffee, espresso, and tea brewing products on WBAL TV Baltimore.  I am always enthusiastic about discussing fashion, parent, or home products.

I went school at North Carolina Central University in the Fall of 2010 to pursue my degree in fashion. As a student, I starting thinking of ways to start my clothing line; as far as developing a name, concept, theme, ect. Michael Kors Faux Wrap Dress – Classic Style

Last week I shared my personal shopping experience at Macys in Annapolis Mall. Let me start by saying, everyone should explore this service!  It’s easy to book and makes your shopping experience a little more pleasant.  After chit chatting with Teresa and discussing upcoming fall trends (I’m still thinking about those pumps) I entered into the dressing room with several delightful items.  She selected a range of garments to suit my lifestyle from jeans, handbags, sunglasses, skirts, and suits.

The one item that captured my heart was a gorgeous wrap dress designed from The MICHAEL, Michael Kors Collection.  I didn’t select the dress because of the brand; but the style was more important.  This High and Low, Faux Wrap Dress complimented my figure and curves.  One thing I’ve shared on this site is that I’m petite and curvy (like the other Kim West) so I’m very meticulous about my style needs.

IMG_5974

The fabric texture also felt great on my skin and silhouette’s classy (and sexy.)  Ultimately, I was very pleased with the garment.  I also have the perfect pair of pumps to wear with this dress for definition, height, and movement.

In addition to selecting the dress, I also picked up a pair of rose gold earrings and skin care products from the Lancome counter. Overall, it was a great day to be a girl and play around in fashion!

Striped Knit Top and Jeans – Chic Look

IMG_5577

Sunglasses: Ray-ban| Striped Top:  Target | Watch:  Michael Kors

On this particular day I didn’t know what to wear; I grabbed my blazer, big earrings, and pumps.  I’m not sure if it’s the back – to – school rush or post vacation hustle but I just couldn’t pull it together!

When all else fails (and my brain’s on overload) I lean towards a chic look.  You can’t go wrong with a striped knit top, fitted jeans, pumps, and classic watch.  Don’t forget to throw on your sunglasses, fluff your hair and hold your head high because confidence is always in style.

Macys Westfield Annapolis: Personal Style Session and Photos

Macys has always been one of my favorite retailers.  For me, it’s more than just the mere act of shopping but I lean towards the overall experience.  I like the store layout, they carry my favorite brands, and the prices are affordable (and the coupons) are amazing!

One hidden secret that many shoppers may not know is that Macys has an in-store styling consultant.  This is a wonderful service at specific stores (nationwide) that can benefit any busy mom, professional, or lady on the go!

My on-site store was located in Annapolis, Maryland where Teresa Borradaile assisted me in selecting a few items. The process began with a simple phone call; Teresa asked me a series of questions about my size, personal style, and favorite colors.  From there, I arrived at her office where she pulled together several looks and accessories. Some of the brands included Michael Kors, Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, INC International Concepts, and Vince Camuto.

I was pleasantly surprised because we only had a 10 minute conversation and Teresa narrowed down my personal style with about ten looks!  She also explained the process of scheduling time with her consulting service which is Monday – Friday during the store hours. Clients can enjoy refreshments, try on garments, and purchase items in her office.  Another fabulous tip, she also assists with wedding registry from selecting gowns and tuxedos to bridal party gifts.

Overall, this was an amazing experience and I truly encourage everyone to schedule time with a Macys Personal Stylist.  Last note, if you’re like me and can’t make a final decision about a product, your personal shopper can hold items and allow you time to make a purchase.  Visit www.macys.com and schedule time to enjoy this VIP Service at Macys Westfield Annapolis.
