Kentucky Derby Fashion – What To Wear

It’s almost time for Kentucky Derby season and women everywhere will start searching for something to wear. Often, we’re not quite sure about the attire for such an event. Should one wear Christian Louboutin Pumps or Lilly Pulitzer Wedge Sandals?

I wanted to share a few style options to help us coordinate for Derby season. Attending the Kentucky Derby is definitely not a denim and t-shirt occasion but one can (still) look fashionable without appearing matronly.

Dressing for the races is a time to be chic and comfortable. Also, there’s a functionality behind Kentucky Derby or Preakness Stakes attire. From my personal experience, one should wear a hat to protect from the sunlight. Wedge sandals are a “must have” due to walking on the field or socializing over cocktails.

To camouflage from heat absorption, floral dresses should be worn in a lighter hue.

Men can have fun with their races fashion as well. It’s expected that gentlemen wear a blazer, button-down, and slacks. For a touch of whimsy, throw on a hat or floral lapel pin for the total sophisticated look.

Christian Louboutin has taken their nude collection to the next level. The luxury shoe brand expanded from nude pumps to flats.

It’s expected that women should find a pump (or flat) in their exact skin tone. According to the designer, “This spring, two new hues join our Nudes collection to create a spectrum of seven suited to any skin tone, from porcelain to deep chocolate.”

Harbor East Welcomes Bmore Betty – Reseller of Authentic Designer Accessories

Harbor East Management Group is pleased to announce retailer B’more Betty is set to open at Harbor East. B’more Betty, Maryland’s premier buyer and seller of new and pre-owned designer handbags, shoes and accessories for men and women, will make its new home at 1500 Thames Street, Suite B. The store will span approximately 1,200 SF and is projected to open for the 2015 holiday shopping season.

Betty, an acronym for “Bringing Exclusive Trends To You,” keeps true to its name by carrying respected high-end designers at affordable price points, including labels such as Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Gucci, Prada, Valentino, Michael Kors, Christian Louboutin, Salvatore Ferragamo, YSL and many more. This is B’more Betty’s second location – owner Camille Edwards opened a store at National Harbor Maryland in May of 2015. B’more Betty originally opened in Baltimore’s Federal Hill neighborhood in 2012 and closed in the spring of this year.

Christian Louboutin: The Nudes Collection Spring 2015

Luxury shoe designer Christian Louboutin’s celebrating women of color around the world with the Nudes Collection. According to the social media post, this particular collection’s suppose to “change the way you think about baring it all.”

Personally, I’m happy to see the new collection because I adore a nude (or flesh tone) pump. They make the legs appear longer and can match anything in your wardrobe. It’s also stated that nude pumps are the perfect work wardrobe staple accessory.

If you’re a Realhousewives of Atlanta fan, we first witnessed this idea when NeNe Leakes purchased numerous pairs for all of her bridesmaids. This was a message that we should own a pair of Nude Louboutins to compliment our attire (or any occassion.)

Christina Aguilera at the AMA Awards: Red Carpet How-To from Stylist David Babaii

The 41^st Annual American Music Awards aired yesterday and Christina Aguilera stole the show the moment she stepped out on the red carpet, and again shortly after she took the stage for her moving performance. From head to toe, Christina was the epitome of timeless beauty on the red carpet in a Maria Lucia Hohan crisp white satin gown with a side slit and diamond-shaped side cut-outs at the waist, Christian Louboutin shoes, a Jimmy Choo bag, Lorraine Schwartz jewels, and flawless makeup. Christina’s look was highlighted by smooth, voluminous curls courtesy of celebrity stylist, David Babaii.

Come her emotionally charged performance, Say Something, with A Great Big World, David styled the songstress’ hair perfectly, with an on-trend bun and braided headband. To achieve her look, David explained you need to start with damp hair and blow it out straight with a sleek center part. Then, he took a significant amount of hair at the nape of the neck and braided it tightly, bringing it up and over the head. He secured it with bobby pins and took the rest of Christina’s hair and put it in a low bun, spritzing it with a styling spray to ensure everything stayed in place during her performance.

For fans of The Voice, this style may look familiar. Well known for her platinum locks and refined style, Christina recently took to her red chair rocking a similar ‘do.

When asked what he suggests for those trying to achieve Christina’s look at home, David mentioned “I recommend Christina and whoever else wants luscious thick hair start taking Viviscal because it makes a big difference and helps achieve luscious, thick, beautiful hair.” While he also said Christina’s tresses are gorgeous, not all of us are blessed with that naturally. Viviscal is perfect for anyone who is looking to get thicker, fuller, healthier hair. David takes Viviscal himself and mentioned he strongly believes “good hair comes from within.”

Birthday Celebration Recap: Brunch, Tattoos, and The Best Man Holiday

I had the opportunity to celebrate my birthday on Sunday, November 17, 2013. Honestly, I can’t remember the last time I had a dull birthday. From my 30th birthday party at Pazo Lounge to the year we had champagne and cake with friends, my birthday has been a day to remember for a long time. So this year was no exception and we charged into the day with full force!

Everyone knows that I love a good brunch and since my special day was on Sunday, having a delicious brunch was the perfect start to my day. We ate at Miss Shirly’s Cafe because this is my favorite brunch spot in the Inner Harbor. The menu at Miss Shirly’s has a southern flair and has become a new tradition in our family (we also eat there on Christmas Eve.) I ordered a “Miss Mimosa” to drink along with a Maryland Omelet and Apple – Smoked Bacon on the side.

From there we left Miss Shirly’s Cafe and I decided to face my fear of needles by getting a butterfly tattoo on my upper back. I wanted something attractive that will show off my shoulders during the summer months. We decided to have it done at The Baltimore Tattoo Museum which is a very artistic, cool place. I channeled my inner strength and survived my first (and last) tattoo. I will share photos once the “butterfly” has healed.

After laughing and exchanging stories, the adventure continued with us having Margarita’s at a local Mexican restaurant. I love Mexican cuisine, so it was the perfect place to grab a quick dinner.

The evening ended with us watching The Best Man Holiday which is one of our favorite movies (amongst our friends.) We have watched the first movie a million times, so we were very excited to view the sequel. The Best Man Holiday delivered everything that I had anticipated! The plot was rich with drama, characters reminded me of old friends, and the setting was absolutely beautiful.

Honestly, I’ve had really great birthday celebrations but this year was EPIC! I can’t imagine what we will do next year…maybe ride a motorcycle across the country or something!

Fall 2013 Beauty and Accessories Trends: Part I

From a blogger’s perspective, I always like to know what’s “hot” for the next upcoming season. And honestly, I do not consider myself to be “trendy” but I do believe in the concept of “refreshing” your wardrobe.

Life is too short to wear boring clothes (via my Instagram post) and dressing is a form of personal expression. It’s how you present yourself to the world and most importantly, it shows everyone how you feel about yourself.

My philosophy is that anyone can refresh their wardrobe without having to spend their life savings. A simple bracelet or new shade of lipstick can do wonders for your wardrobe, mood, or even your professional life.

I have to give credit to one of my favorite magazines, Instyle (I’ve been reading since I was a teenager) for telling us the new, runway inspired looks.

In conclusion, it’s fun and easy to select a trend but don’t forget that true style is making a look your own!
