New York City – Perfect Mini Weekend Break

If there’s one place that needs to be on your travel bucket list, it’s New York City. This is the one place that people from all over the world link to the United States. It features some of the most iconic sights, showcases some great unique neighborhoods and provides a striking backdrop for a fantastic weekend away. Of course, in an ideal world, most of us would have a lot longer than just a weekend to spend in New York City. But with a full time job to hold down, most of us are lucky to just get a few days of escape every couple of months. You might have shunned New York before and have put it down as being ‘too touristy’ or ‘too busy’. But, here are some reasons why we think it’s the perfect place for a weekend city break.

The travel system

Okay, so most people don’t pay attention to the local public transport when they are finding somewhere to go on vacation. But, when you only have a couple of days in one specific location, time is of the essence! Take an hour or so before your weekend away to familiarize yourself with the public transport system in and around New York City. As it is such as metropolitan place, it is relatively easy to get from one side of the city to the other on very reliable transport. You can travel by bus, by subway, by tram or even by boat down the Hudson River! If you are planning to travel quite extensively around the city while you are there, it may also be worth investing in a Metro Card. Plus, it would be a crime to visit New York and not take a ride in one of the famous yellow cabs – start practicing your hailing technique now!

The things to do

One thing is for sure: you’ll never be bored in New York City. There are way too many things to do to be able to get round them all in one weekend, so you will need to pick the very best to make the most of your time there. If you want a quiet, sophisticated activity that will take you away from the crowds of tourists, why not indulge in  wine tasting ny? Taking a stroll through Central Park is also a NY must-do, and if you want to go slightly off the beaten track, Brooklyn is a quirky neighborhood full of great independent eateries.

The places to stay

New York has some of the most diverse accommodation in the world, so you’ll be spoiled for choice when it comes to where to stay! If you like familiarity, you can simply choose one of the main international hotel chains that are within the city. Some of these are particularly close to the airports, which can come in useful when you don’t have much time to spend there. If you want something a little more individual, however, why not check out one of New York’s many famous hotels, or even stay at a bed and breakfast?

The Life of Pablo Pop-Up Shop – Merchandise Launch

Kanye West hosted “The Life of Pablo” Pop-Up Shop at 21 international locations. Merchandise sold at the stores included Basic T-Shirts, Bomber Jackets, Hoodies, Military Jackets, and Baseball Caps.

Several fashion enthusiasts visited the shop.  Potential customers waited outside for several hours to view the merchandise.  Thus, the collection received mixed reviews due to the price, style, and return policy of the clothing.

Visual design of the pop-up shop was reminiscent of a minimalistic style with white walls, mirrors, and a few racks of clothing.

It was an interesting launch for “The Life of Pablo” Collection and sure this is only the beginning for the Music Artist and Fashion Designer.

About MoCADA
The Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts (MoCADA) was established in 1999 as Brooklyn’s first and only museum dedicated to the creation and interpretation of contemporary Black arts and culture. Starting from humble beginnings on the fourth floor of a Bedford-Stuyvesant brownstone, MoCADA has since expanded from a grassroots startup with a social justice mission, to an internationally-recognized arts institution. Now located in Fort Greene, the museum has established a reputation for cutting-edge exhibitions and programs that cross artistic disciplines and create opportunities for emerging artists. MoCADA has produced over 60 exhibitions and 500 public programs, expanding from the museum’s main gallery to the streets, parks, schools, and public housing of Brooklyn and beyond, challenging the boundaries of the traditional museum to build community and increase public access to the arts.

NYE 2012 Recap: New York, Washington DC, and Baltimore

NYE is a time to celebrate “new” beginnings with family and friends! This is also a significant holiday because we create resolutions that will inspire us for the upcoming year.

Although 2012 was dynamic year, I think it’s universal to say that we’re (all) striving towards individual change, personal growth, and a closer spiritual connection for the 2013 year.

Check out our New Year’s Eve {2012} Recap from Style Life Fashion.com

NEW YEAR’S EVE 2012

From New York, Washington DC, and Baltimore the socialites were out having a good time.  Cheers (raise your champagne flute) to the New Year!

Tyrice Johnson from The Belvedere Agency in New York

Celebrating in the New York: New year, new trend! Among the number of new trends this new year in the Big Apple, many New Yorkers and celebs, opted to attend small intimate house parties rather than foot the bill for a lavish night out. Low-key parties were attended by socialites and trendsetters throughout the city. Despite the smaller venues attended this New Year’s Eve, fashion was in full swing! Tuxedo jackets adorned or paired with heavy jewelry was a consistent trend.

Barbara Choice from Choice Management, LLC in Washington DC

Celebrating in Washington DC: I celebrated New Year’s Eve in DC at Alero’s Restaurant and Bar Nine. I purchased my dress and coat from H&M and wore Zara Shoes. My New Year’s Resolution is continue to work on me in becoming a better person!

Nafessah Carter English Teacher in Baltimore, Maryland (on the far left)

Celebrating in Baltimore: We partied at Select Lounge in Baltimore, Maryland. One of my New Years resolutions is to get closer to God.

Kimmie West from Style Life Fashion.com in Baltimore, Maryland

Celebrating in Baltimore: We celebrated at the Pisces Lounge, at the Hyatt Place Baltimore (where we also made a reservation for the evening.) I wore a black lace dress purchased from H&M along with black, leather knee boots (from Guess.) I also carried a black fur coat, just in case we stepped outside for the fireworks. The ADIDAS snapback cap was a gift to my hubby, who thought “this” would make a “fly” picture! {wink}
