What: Global retail leader Westfield and leading online style and shopping platform Who What Wear have partnered together to introduce the first-ever BossNotes: Leading with Style series, a collection of events, activations and online guides designed to inspire fashionable, career-driven women to achieve their own professional success. Leading fashion influencers tackle topics like “Building Your Brand with Confidence” and “Expedited Success: Getting Where You Want to Be,” sharing their tips for how to be a boss—and look the part.

The series kicked off at Westfield Topanga (Southern CA) last month with a hosted panel of prominent, influential women who spoke about their career journeys, continued at Westfield Valley Fair (Northern CA) earlier this month, and will conclude at Westfield Garden State Plaza (NJ) this weekend. The partnership has also brought BossNotes to 14 Westfield centers across the U.S. this Spring. Continuing throughout the end of May, shoppers can experience a variety of components at local Westfield centers, including fun photo backdrops, a BossNotes Inspiration Wall that asks guests “What’s Your Secret To Success?,” visual merchandising showcases and a limited time Gift With Purchase.

Additionally, Westfield is hosting a “Dress Like a Boss” sweepstakes, where shoppers can enter to win a new work wardrobe tailored by a personal stylist. For more information, visit Westfield.com/BossNotes.

PacPal_Drybar2

W H O: Maryland Governor Larry Hogan, Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller, Jr., Speaker of The House Michael B. Busch, State Senator Joan Carter Conway (District 43, Baltimore City), Maryland Delegate Dereck Davis (Prince George’s County, District 25), Maryland Delegate Ariana B. Kelly (District 16, Montgomery County), Drybar Founder Alli Webb, and Drybar fans throughout Maryland.

WHAT: The official Governor’s Signing of SB-830/HB-1291, aka, THE DRYBAR BLOWOUT LICENSE BILL, which “establishes a limited license to provide hair services – blowdrying: requiring the State Board of Cosmetologists to establish by regulation specified curriculum standards for providing hair services – blow drying for use by specified entities.” This bill was developed by Senator Conway and Delegate Ariana B. Kelly at the request of Drybar National Field Director Courtney Barfield. The bill is effective as of October 1, 2016 and is the first of its kind in the country. Governor Hogan, Senator Conway, Delegate Kelly, Drybar founder Alli Webb and Courtney Barfield will be in attendance for the signing ceremony.

WHEN AND WHERE: Tuesday, May 10, 10:00 am at The Governor’s Reception Room, Maryland State House, 100 State Circle, Annapolis, Maryland.

W H Y: Says Alli Webb, “On the heels of The Drybar Bill, which passed into law in Maryland in 2014 and allowed us to offer champagne and wine to our clients, we are honored to have worked with Senator and Delegate Kelly to pass SB830/HB1291, aka The Drybar Blowout License Bill, which will allow us to train and grow our team of Drybar stylists in Maryland, creating more jobs and opportunities in the process.”

ABOUT DRYBAR: Drybar is based on a simple philosophy: Focus on one thing and be the best at it. For Drybar, that’s blowouts. The idea was a natural one for curly-haired founder Alli Webb, a longtime professional stylist, who grew tired of overpaying for blowouts at traditional salons. Named one of the top “100 Brilliant Ideas” by Entrepreneur Magazine and one of New York Magazine’s Boom Brands, Drybar is on track to have over 70 retail locations by the end of 2016. The brand will continue adding to its popular line of hair styling products & tools sold both online and in its own shops, as well as at Sephora and Nordstrom in the U.S. and Canada, and select Ulta Beauty doors nationwide. “The Drybar Guide To Good Hair For All,” the first book by Alli Webb, will be published in October 2016 by Abrams Publishing.

Former NFL Player Keion Carpenter and The Carpenter House – Building Blocks Awards Gala

The Carpenter House will be celebrating its 10 year anniversary with the Building Blocks Awards (BBA) Gala black-tie fundraiser on Sunday May 1. Created with the mission to create affordable housing, funds raised at the annual BBA Gala will help provide adequate shelter for families in need. The BBA Gala will be hosted by Q Parker of the R&B sensation 112, with a live performance by Stellar Award Winner Jason Nelson.

In addition to the special awards presentation, the BBA Gala, which will be held at the Lower Level of the Mondawmin Mall, will also include dinner and dancing. Tickets for the event are available to the general public at $100 per person. Table sales and sponsorship options are also available.

When asked about the annual Gala Chief Executive Officer and Founder of The Carpenter House, Keion Carpenter said “Nobody cares how much you know until they know how much you care. Giving back to the city that has giving me so much, is a dream come true. The city will never be same after Sunday night May 1st!”

Since 2006, the Carpenter House has been committed to delivering services that rebuild communities through education, mentorship, physical activity and promoting a healthy lifestyle. The Carpenter House aims to strengthen and empower families from disadvantaged backgrounds by providing access to resources, activities, and environments that enable them to reach their highest social and economic potential. Recognizing that creating safe and affordable housing is the center for strengthening families, the Carpenter House addresses the issue through the Carpenter House Communities (CHC) program.

Working in partnership with local government agencies and community/civic organizations, CHC purchases and accepts donated homes within Baltimore City. CHC then rehabilitates the homes making them available to qualified low-income and single-parent families that would otherwise not be able to experience the dream of homeownership. Through a partnership with the Wells Fargo Community & Urban Stabilization Program and M&T Bank, The Carpenter House purchased its first home in 2015. Since its purchase, the home has been completely rehabilitated and currently has a single-parent family living in the home.

The Mondawmin Mall is located at 2800 Liberty Road, Baltimore MD and the event begins at 7:00 PM. For tickets and or sponsorship information for the Building Blocks Awards Gala visit www.blocksgala.org.
