Having a sleeve style for different types of dresses and tops is vital as it is a defining factor of how it will look on you. Therefore, as you buy different garbs, consider the sleeve since it can change how your clothes look on the body in a big way. Plus, if you want to improve how great your Instagram pictures look, then ensure you make complimentary and cool sleeve choices. Today, there are many sleeve styles in the cycles of fashion that are reintroduced, revisited, and reinvented. In this article, are five types of sleeves that you should have in your wardrobe.
The puff sleeve
The puff sleeve is stylish and striking. It is also known as the peasant sleeve, and it is a favorite choice of high-class fashion designers. This sleeve is not just for the designer as it is popular in everyday styles as well. Many women try this puff sleeve style as it looks impressive, and it is the most enduring for women’s full sleeve tops and dresses. When you choose to wear a garment with this sleeve, it should stand out as the centerpiece. It is classic, pretty, striking and in most cases, exaggerated. Balance the other outfits by wearing classic bottoms in chic but unassuming colors. One way to style it is with a classic V-neck and accentuate your style by adding layered neck chains.
The bell sleeve
The bell or flare sleeve is a dramatic and delicate style. It is a modern fashion trend, and it fits well on the shoulder areas and flares out towards the sleeve. It is common on runways and is available on high street markets too. A bell sleeve can be in your work shirt, sleek dresses, and also your ethnic wear. When your outfit has bell sleeves, it adds a unique dose of fashion, even for simple outfits. As you shop for your sleeve, choose the one that has flare and matches the level of style you feel comfortable in and with a touch of embellishments. To style with a bell sleeve, keep the rest of your look minimal.
The ruffle sleeve
If you want a girly, pretty, and unapologetically feminine sleeve, the ruffle sleeve is a perfect choice. Also known as the flounce sleeve, it gives a minimal statement without losing its flair. For such an elegant sleeve, you can choose a simple design with light flares to dramatic styles that have long flounces and make a statement in a quiet but confident way. Ruffle sleeves are for simple and casual styles. Thus, wear it tucked in a denim skirt or a pair of jeans for a girl next door look. Add a youthful spin with fun accessories, headbands, and wear a backpack as an accessory.
The raglan sleeve
The sporty and chic raglan sleeve style is a variation of the drop sleeve but still maintains a tight silhouette. You can buy half or full sleeves in t-shirts. They are a sleeve style for activewear since their design helps with flexibility and easy movements. Style this sleeve style garbs with high waist trousers or a pair of chinos for a smart-casual look, if you want a raglan sleeve that goes beyond the usual fare of athleisure. Choose one that is made of interesting materials to get a super feminine look and one with embellishments to make it stand out.
The off-shoulder sleeve
Others know it as the cold shoulder sleeve. It is popular and eye-catching. It is among the most sophisticated sleeve styles available in the women’s wear category, and they are all the rage today. This trendy sleeve can be constructed in many silhouettes and can have a mix of other sleeve styles like the flouncy, bell, and ruffle. It is a summer favorite as it allows your shoulder and collar bone areas to be out naturally, and it gives a youthful charm to your overall ensemble. To style this sleeve, it is not for the faint-hearted. Although it is a favorite among the Gen-Z and millennials, it is not limited to them. One way to wear it is as a skirt combo in a single color for a bold look.
The holiday season is right upon us. I don’t know about you but there are specific details that need to be checked off the list in preparation for seasonal celebrations.
In previous years, I would take down the decorations and get straight to work. This isn’t ideal because I would enter the new year with frozen meals and closets filled with miscellaneous items. Thankfully, I learned from my unorganized ways and began to structure my home to truly ti’s the season.
Featured Photo Style: Tweed Blazer: Express | Heels: Jimmy Choo | Bow Ring: oNecklace
#4 Lessons for Holiday Prep:
Lesson #1: Start de-cluttering before the new year. This is not up for debate! If you wait until after Christmas, this will include gifts and leftover household items.
Lesson #2: Clean the freezer prior to Thanksgiving. This simple task will make room for extra food and potential freezer meals. The holiday season can get busy, having freezer meals on hand eliminates the question, “What’s for dinner?”
Lesson #3: Put up the Christmas tree prior to holiday festivities. The longer you wait, the more stressful the holiday season will become. I like to gather my entirefamily and pull down the tree at least two weeks before cooking the turkey.
Lesson #4: The previous lesson leads me into the next one. If the month of November is your busiest season in business or civic engagments, consider ordering the turkey. There are several delicious options and this can be a time-saver (and energy-saver.)
Oh, in terms of gift-giving, check out oNecklace for one of a kind, personalized pieces.
Zendaya is undoubtedly one of Hollywood’s brightest young stars – and one of Black Hollywood’s wildest dreams. At just 24 years old, the actress has led two successful series on two of the biggest networks in TV land; costarred in a huge blockbuster Marvel film; and become the youngest woman ever to win the Emmy for outstanding lead actress in a drama, Euphoria. As much as the actress and activist has broken barriers in her past, it’s her present and future in Hollywood that’s winning.
For ESSENCE’s November + December issue, Zendaya graces the cover with stunning and picturesque black and white imagery that pays tribute to icons of the past while squarely establishing her as a leading force in the present and an icon of the future. The special issue is part of the brand’s ongoing 50th anniversary celebration and also features Zendaya on three bonus digital covers (with fashion styling and creative direction led by renowned celeb stylist Law Roach.) In her cover story, A Work of Art, Zendaya talks to writer Sylvia Obell about everything from her historic Emmy win, speaking truth to power and carrying our legacy forward. She tells ESSENCE:
ON WHAT WAS GOING THROUGH HER MIND RIGHT BEFORE HER HISTORIC EMMY WINNING: “There’s a video of me that a family friend took while I was waiting, and you can see my leg shaking. In my head I was like, ‘Dude, just chill out. What will be, will be.’ I remember taking a deep breath, and then hearing my name, and then my family screamed. I was worried that if they kept screaming for too long, I wouldn’t have any time to actually say anything—but I didn’t want to stop them, because they were having a great time. It was a very special night. I’ll definitely remember that one forever…”
ON RECEIVING SUPPORT FROM OTHER BLACK WOMEN AFTER HER EMMY WIN: “I’m honored to have that support, especially from my fellow young Black creatives. Through this Emmy’s period, especially, I felt a strong sense of support within our community, which I’m really grateful for. I think what’s slowly starting to happen is, artists like Issa Rae and Lena Waithe have created opportunities that have resulted in more of us being in these rooms. That’s such a special feeling, and I think it’s definitely changing the idea that there can only be “one at a time,” which is false. I love to see that genuine love and respect for each other’s work. I hope that we continue to expand that in all kinds of beautiful ways, because I think we’re on a really good path…”
ON LAW ROACH’S CREATIVE + FASHION DIRECTION: “I also felt very excited that ESSENCE allowed Law [Roach] and me to be a part of the creative team and do something a little bit different. I had so much fun on this shoot paying homage to Donyale Luna, the first Black supermodel. A lot of what I do, specifically within fashion, is a tribute to fashion icons who came before me—many of whom are Black women. I love the way it turned out. I’m very proud of it. It’s one of my favorite cover shoots I’ve ever done.”
ON FILMING “MALCOLM & MARIE” WHEN THE PANDEMIC FIRST SHUT DOWN: “It was a dream, because I’ve always wanted to be able to just strip everything away. I love what I do—and like most people, I was finding ways to stay inspired and stay creative, and luckily I know people who are the same way. It was great sitting in a room with John David Washington, Marcell Rév and Sam [Levinson], literally writing scenes as we went, coming up with ideas as we moved through the characters, and finding new things every day. That was the coolest part. That is why I do this.”
HER NEW YEAR’S WISH FOR BLACK WOMEN: “For us to continue to fully realize our power and harness it to do great things, because we are incredibly powerful. We’re often convinced that we’re not, and taught to shrink—but we have to believe in our collective power. I always think of that Beyoncé song, ‘They’ll never take my power, my power, my power.’ Let’s take that energy into the new year…”
ESSENCE’s November + December issue also includes a special Election 2020 package featuring a History Maker profile on Vice-President Elect Kamala Harris and her historic run for the White House. In the piece, News & Politics editor Tanya Christian details her year-plus coverage of the Senator—including her live appearance at the 2019 ESSENCE Festival of Culture in New Orleans during her presidential run. The issue also features The Black Women Behind the Biden-Harris Campaign, an article showcasing key movers and shakers who helped drive the campaign to victory.

As a national TV correspondent (TODAY, E!, Inside Edition), fashion editor and styleexpert, NYC it girl Sydney Sadick has perfected the art of dressing for the part you want in life. In her new book Aim High: How to Style Your Life and Achieve Your Goals, Sydney shares her ethos on how to live fearlessly, achieve your dreams, and use fashion as a tool to ignite goal-getting confidence.
Not even a pandemic can stop her; as the nation-wide quarantine halted her industry, Sydney launched the ‘Lunchtime with Sydney’ Instagram Live show where 125,000+ viewers tune in weekly to watch her interview fashion and beauty icons like Bobbi Brown, Steve Madden, Lele Sadoughi, Alana Hadid, and some of today’s hottest reality celebrities.
The art of pivoting is just one of the many tricks Sydney has picked up over the years that drives her success. Now, she shares her story in her book to help others find their inner voice/style (and look fabulous in the process).
Black leggings are essential to our quarantine wardrobes this fall. They’re comfortable, look great on all women of any age and body type, and are the perfect canvas for dressing up or down. Here are 5 different ways I suggest wearing them.
1. Zoom Meetings: Make a statement in the upper portion of your outfit since this is where people will be seeing you. A puff-shoulder cardigan or a blazer in a flexible fabric with a bodysuit or t-shirt underneath paired with a gold hoop earring a bold lip will give your favorite bottoms a professional upgrade.
2. Socially-Distanced Lunch: If you’re meeting a friend for a socially distanced lunch outside you want to make sure you’re dressed warm! This is where layering comes into play. Pair your leggings first with a t-shirt, then a chunky knit sweater in a fall–approved color (deep burgundy, forest green), and a chic puffer coat. A pair of biker boots is also a fun way to add a little edge to your chilly-weather outfit. Your leggings allow you to mix textures, colors, and patterns, so have fun with it.
3. Comfy and Cozy: Netflix and chill calls for leggings and hoodies. Tie-dye is here to stay but in fall colors. Throw it on with your pair of leggings and a furry slipper and you’ll still look put together even if you have no plans on moving
4. Virtual Date: You don’t want to look like you tried too hard, but you still want to look put together. Your leggings will complement any top. Show off a little skin with an off the shoulder top paired with a chain choker necklace. It’s not too much but just enough.
5. At-Home Workout: Pair your leggings to a fun graphic t-shirt or colorful sports bra with a zip-up hoodie over it. The way you dress affects your mood so even bringing out some color to your leggings will make you a little more motivated to head to that online workout class.

Luxury jewelry tends to carry two myths: one, that it’s expensive and two, that’s it’s a frivolous purchase. For those looking to shatter these concepts and look good at the same, Misayo House has the exquisite jewelry collection for you.
Made out of the highest quality hypoallergenic materials and stones, Misayo House jewelry is additionally double-plated in either genuine rhodium or 14-18 karat gold (white, yellow, and rose gold). The result is a high-end look that lasts.
Formed on the premise that fine-fashion jewelry can still be attainable, founder Idunnu Tomori carefully creates and curates pieces that rival their high-end counterparts without the hefty price tags.
What’s more beautiful than these jewelry pieces is the good they do for children in need. A portion of each purchase supports the Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorder Center in Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. This cause is near and dear to Tomori’s heart as her younger daughter required a bone marrow transplant in 2017.
Misayo House also continues to support other charitable organizations by participating in nationwide fundraisers, “Shop For A Cause” events.
Why the Jewelry You Wear Right Now Matters
If you thought jewelry was an accessory only to be worn outside of the house, think again. Add some accents to your Zoom and video calls to stand out via your webcam that only shows your shoulders and up.
Don’t forget to make a necklace your centerpiece! The Loved, Blessed, and Thankful necklaces are best sellers. For an elegant look, check out the Pave Crescent necklace in gold and silver.

About Misayo House: Idunnu Tomori started her Atlanta-based business in 2015 to share her love of classic, timeless, and chic jewelry. Misayo, which means “Beautiful Generation” in Japanese, is the middle name of her older daughter, Tara. She stepped away from her decade-long career as a mental health therapist to care for her younger daughter Toni, who was born with Sickle Cell Anemia. In 2017 Toni had a Bone Marrow Transplant which is the only cure for Sickle Cell complications and her donor was none other than her big sister. Tomori began raising money to help provide support to other families at the Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorder Center in Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, where Toni was being treated. Misayo House affirms her passion to give back as a portion of proceeds is donated to the Aflac Center and other nonprofit organizations.
Life has been pretty busy but this is one of my absolute favorite seasons. Fall is filled with pumpkins, football games, and trick or treating.
One aspect that has changed due to COVID-19 is the kids attending school. Every family has made individual choices based on their household. The similarity amongst everyone is the ability to adjust due to the circumstances.
I have implemented a few strategies to keep everyone’s sanity and wanted to share them below.
Back to School/Virtual Learning Strategies:
1. Set-up a digital learning space with individual crates for each child. Crates should be labeled.
2. Create a school binder with all of the teacher information and print schedules.
3. Know the log-in information for each child.
4. Create a daily schedule and put it on a whiteboard.
5. Put snacks in a basket for individual grabbing.
6. Create a lunch schedule according to in-school lunches.
7. Have a Chromebook/computer tutorial with each child to foster independence.
8. Set alarms in a child’s cellphone for them to join Google Meets.
If there’s no homework, kids can do afternoon art projects or go outside!
Also, don’t forget that companies like Target, Publix, and Amazon are offering delivery services for various products!
oNecklace Circle Initial Bead Bracelet:
I adore a beautiful bracelet. It’s a simple touch of sparkle that can pull an entire outfit together!
oNecklace shipped an Initial Bead Braceletthat was perfect for my current jewelry collection. The company allowed me to personalize this particular piece and of course, I added the letter K.
