One of the least expensive ways to decorate a home is with the use of floral design. Not only is it beautiful in terms of aesthetic value but it’s a money saver depending on the plant and design concept. Flowers can also set the tone for any room, whether romantic or contemporary.
In decorating (or design school) it’s always suggested to use nature for inspiration. Home floral design can be duplicated with authentic greenery or silk plants. Either option creates a beautiful centerpiece with a few additional suggestions:
1. Purchase or use a unique container
2. Select flowers that are in season with a local florist shop or nursery
3. Think outside of the box and use fruits as an arrangement
4. Add ribbons and lace as a nice accent
5. Try something new such as a wreath, swag, or garland
Also, don’t forget to consider your supplies and the space for your new arrangement. We will have more floral design tips on Style + Life + Fashion from Debi Lilly(Oprah’s Party Planner) as she will be launching a line of floral designs at select Safeway locations in the Baltimore/DC area.
Lifestyle Printables are the latest self management, organization tool. I like to use them not only for my home but also in terms of selecting cosmetics, bill paying, blogging, and meal planning.
DIY Life Planner
Printables are the perfect solution for simple living. Here’s how it works: select the list that’s specific to your life goals, print the list or add fun graphics, and check off items as we move through our tasks.
Some people like to use daily lists (such as the one below) and others prefer to create a lifestyle binder. No matter what’s your preference this is a great way to feel more in control of your life.

I like to make homemade soup for my family during the winter months. It’s a fairly easy recipe and can be a hearty meal. As new generation women, we’re busy and need simple ideas to make our lives easier; one option is to make soup.

Eating soup can be a healthy meal substitute from our normal grilled caesar salad. Simply cook the recipe, store in ziplock bags, and put in the freezer. Also, depending on the amount that’s left over, one can store soup (in the freezer) for family sick days.
There’s two easy steps I like to incorporate that’s less time consuming when cooking the recipe. Number one, use a soup starter mix and number two, take pre cooked chicken breast (from last night’s dinner) and shred for your recipe. If you want to get “fancy” add vegetables to the recipe as well.
After you’re done don’t forget to serve in your soups mugs (I found a set at the thrift shop) with crackers or make a batch of crescent rolls on the side. You can sit back and watch your favorite reality show because dinner’s done!
Valentine’s Day is right around the corner and it’s the perfect time to start your gift selection. Whether it’s showing love to your mom or a romantic date, gifting a beautiful strand of pearls can bring a smile to anyone’s face.
Rihanna wearing Pearls
I adore pearls because they’re simple, chic, and elegant. A beautiful strand of pearls can be worn a variety of ways. If you’re striving for a simple style, wear pearls with a business suit, blouse, or cashemere sweater. Another option for a hip look is wear to pearls with a chambray top or leather jacket; and of course there’s always the traditional option of wearing pearls with a gown. The point is that pearls can be worn to dress up or dress down depending on your personal style.
Pearls and Chambray Shirt
Don’t forget to consider the length of your necklace in terms of the neckline and the size of your wrist (for bracelets.) One never wants to look fashionable and their pearl bracelet keeps sliding or risk losing a family heirloom.
According to Jackie Kennedy, “Pearls are always appropriate.” Visit The Pearl Source for exquisite pearls at an affordable price.
We own them, we love them, and we spend a great deal of money on them….handbags! There’s so many stylish bags for our personal collection such as tote bags, satchels, clutches, hobo bags, and weekender bags.

I have an obsession with handbags because they’re a great organizational tool. When my handbag’s properly sorted I feel like I can conquer the world. Although we may own several handbags (in various shapes and colors) are we caring for them properly?
As fashionistas, we stick our handbags in a closet once the seasons change. We forget to handle the outer leather, straps, and interior with care.
Tips to properly care for your handbag collection:
1. Know the material of your handbag prior to using chemicals or solutions.
2. Always store your handbag in a pillow case or protective cloth.
3. Don’t forget to zip or fasten the bag; and put the straps together.
4. Purchase a leather or suede protector for your handbags.
5. Repairs can be done by your local seamstress or purse repair shop.
6. Handbags should be moisturized with a leather conditioner.
7. Insert bubble wrap or tissue paper to help your bag keep it’s shape and form.
8. Use a spray protector for weatherproofing handbags against environmental debris.
9. Let spills dry naturally inside of the bag.
10. Remember to also care for the hardware on your handbag.
If you switch handbags often, consider purchasing a handbag organizer to keep important items in tack. You never have to worry about packing your favorite lipstick or nail file ever again.
Patterned trousers can look amazing, but you need to style them properly to ensure you don’t look out of place. You definitely don’t want to look like you’ve dressed in the dark! Using this guide when styling your trousers will make sure you look on top form!
Make a Statement With a Bright Top
Lots of prints look amazing with bright colours, so wear a bright top on your top half to make a statement. Leopard print and red would work really well, as would teal and monochrome dogtooth trousers. You can experiment in any way you like to find something that works. You can even pick something else to add colour, like a bag or your shoes. Even Islamic clothing is great to use for this tip.
Add a Fitted Blazer and Heels
If you want to wear your patterned trousers out on the town, simply add a fitted blazer and heels. You’ll look chic and turn heads for all of the right reasons! Want to make even more of a statement? Wear your blazer in a contrasting colour to your trousers.
Thrown on an Oversized Sweatshirt
If you want to dress down your patterned trousers slightly, add an oversized sweatshirt. Bear in mind this looks better if your trousers are more of a skinny fit, so you don’t swamp yourself in material. This even looks great with heels, if you plan on going for a casual drink!
Wear a Basic T and Sandals for Boho Chic
If you don’t want to look too done up, wear a basic T and sandals for a boho look. Think Vanessa Hudgens! She always looks laid back yet stylish. This look is perfect for a festival, or even a day at the beach.
Tuck in a Top and Add a Belt
Consider tucking a top or shirt into your trousers, and then adding a nice waist belt to cinch you in. This will give you an unbelievable shape!
Toughen Up the Look
If you have floral trousers, why not toughen up the look? You can do this with a black leather biker jacket and some rock chick boots.
Introduce a Colour from Your Trousers Elsewhere
Take a look at your trousers and assess the colour scheme. If you have multiple shades in there, pick one and introduce it into your outfit somewhere else. For instance, if your trousers are varying shades of purple, you could wear a lavender bomber jacket!
Add a Pretty Pastel Hue
Pretty pastel hues will look great with your trousers, and will work with almost any pattern you can find. This is a great tip if you want to soften the overall look.
Wear a Matching Jacket
Why not be daring and wear a matching jacket? Most places do matching jacket and trouser sets, and you won’t need to put much effort in to look chic.
Now you know exactly how to wear your patterned trousers to avoid looking trashy. I hope you love them as much as we do. See you later!
Tired of wearing your scarf the same way all the time? We’ve gathered four of our favorite ways, from the draped “Parisian” to the bundled “Faux Infinity”—these styles will give your outfit a bold, new look.

My favorite product for this month was the Jaqua Hand Creme – does a wonderful job moisturizing the hands and cuticles; this product also smells lovely. The glitter polish is a nice addition to any manicure, with small hearts included in the lacquer.

My Review:
I have been a fan of Teen Vogue for several years. The magazine provides the latest in fashion, celebrity style, and entertainment. The Teen Vogue Handbook is the perfect extension of the brand because it gives an insiders guide to careers in fashion. I suggest this book for up and coming fashion professionals as well as those working in the industry.
The handbook is divided into content chapters according to careers such as Designers, Editors, Digital, Stylist, Models, Beauty, and Photographers. Of course I turned to the Digital chapter first, which features media moguls such as Leandra Medine, Natalie Massenet, Michelle Phan, Sophia Amoruso, and Robin Givhan to name a few.
In addition, The Teen Vogue Handbook shares how to start a career in fashion and the daily responsiblities associated with each job. For example, designer Jenna Lyons shares “one day is never the same as the next; there are so many pieces and parts. Most of the time, I go from one meeting to the next and don’t really get a break in between ” (Astley, 41.)
The Teen Vogue Handbook
The handbook ends with the Career chapter giving tips on how to apply for internships, create a resume, social networking, and dressing to impress. The Teen Vogue Handbook is a must read for the fashion intern or brand account manager. Fashion is constantly changing and one must stay abreast of the latest trends (beyond accessories and style.) Anna Wintour stated, “people have to go to school, learn their craft, and build a brand – that’s the right, healthy way to do things. If you’re an overnight sensation, you can be yesterday’s news in no time, whereas building something slowly and carefully that has value and quality, that’s what’s going to have legs” (Astley, 114.)
