How-To: Advice For Fashion Start-ups

It might seem daunting setting up your own fashion business, but our advice can help!

 Featured Photo from H&M.com

Launching your own business can be very rewarding, but also very demanding. You’ll need to juggle many balls in order to get the business launched and trading successfully. Therefore, it’s important to do some thorough research and planning. With a large amount of competition out there, it’s essential to have a business strategy in place that is clear and on point.

Create a business plan

A business plan is like a personal roadmap, that outlines your goals, visions and objectives. It will be central to the business development and will be a helpful tool to measure progress and success.

You also need to work out how much finance you will need to set up and run the business until it starts generating income. Fees can include the cost of sample collection, marketing materials, professional fees, insurance and any deposits required for rent or utilities.

Plan your collection

It is tempting to get carried away when designing a collection of clothes or accessories, but for the first few seasons, it’s better to create a small focused section to target a specific group of people. Once you’ve built up a reputation and have a good sales history, you can expand the collection more.

You could hire an image model to model the clothes in photo shoots, as a way of promoting the range. Image models are beautiful women who have a unique charm, grace and energy and can adapt to any situation they are in. They look after themselves well and of course photograph well, so you would be able to have a collection of professional photographs ready for your clothes line.

 Check out competitors

Don’t be afraid to research and find out about your competitors, it helps to learn what other people in the market are doing and you can learn a lot from analyzing a competitors business model. It will help you to identify your USP and helps to give your business a slightly different edge to others in the industry.

Keep on top of your finances

Make sure to monitor your cash flow on a regular basis. Doing so well help you foresee any potential problems from happening and will give you time to find suitable solutions. Rather than being faced with a bill that you cannot pay.

Marketing

You’ll need all the help you can get, so it would be an innovative idea to join groups where you could meet people and forge collaborations with other like-minded people, such as designers, entrepreneurs, social media influencers and bloggers. Anyone that can help promote and get the word out for you about your brand is a big help. Always carry business cards with you to help build up a database of useful contacts, because you never know who you might meet!

Starting a fashion business isn’t easy, but if you feel passionate, are driven and have a clear vision, it can be one of the most exciting and fulfilling industries to work in.

Feminine Touches For Your Spring & Summer Wardrobe

When the mercury starts to rise, and the days get longer and lighter, many of us like to embrace our girly side. If you’re keen to refresh your wardrobe and add some flirty, feminine touches for spring/summer, here are some hot additions you won’t want to miss.

Be a frill-seeker

Frills and ruffles are everywhere at the moment, and this is great new for girly girls. Adding a simple frill to a sweater, blouse or skirt can make the blandest, most basic piece visually stunning. Go for frills up top if you’re keen to streamline a pear shape or stick to ruffles on the bottom half if you want to create a curvier shape. If you’re not comfortable with the idea of basing your outfits on Flamenco dresses, don’t panic. There are plenty of pieces out there, which offer a much more subtle approach.

Add pastels to your palette

In the cold, wet months, we tend to drape ourselves in black and jewel tones. Now that the sun has finally appeared, it’s time to mix up your palette and add some lighter, softer tones. Pastels always work well in spring. If you’re worried about wearing pastels with your skin tone, don’t be. You don’t have to dress head to toe in lilac or lemon. You can add touches using bags, scarves, jewelry, and shoes.

Embrace prim and proper

Casual styles are all the rage at the moment, but there is still a market for Gossip Girl chic. If you’d rather wear pleated midi skirts and pussy-bow blouses than ripped jeans and camo jackets, this is the look for you. Think floaty fabrics, delicate prints, and dainty jewels. If you’re searching for inspiration, take a look at 925 silver charms & charm bracelets wholesale at ELF925. Stick to silver, gold or rose gold, and keep things simple with understated drop earrings, bracelets, and pendant necklaces.

Give your wardrobe the cold shoulder

If you’re looking for items to give your wardrobe some va-va-voom without showing too much flesh, the cold shoulder trend could be just the ticket. With this style, you’re covered up, but you’re flashing just a little bit of skin. This is a great option for spring/summer when it’s not boiling outside, but you don’t need a cardigan or a jacket.

Just add embroidery

If you’re looking for a simple way to add a more feminine vibe to your closet, embroidery is one of the hottest trends out there at the moment, and it’s also really easy to wear. Go or folk-inspired embroidered linen tops with skinny jeans or team a basic vest with jeans adorned with a floral motif. Alternatively, keep your clothing simple, and let some embroidered pumps do the talking.

Spring is on its way, and what better time of year to celebrate your girly side, and add some more feminine pieces to your wardrobe? If you’re off on a long-overdue shopping trip, hopefully, these ideas will help you to select some show-stopping spring/summer outfits.

Get the Look: Romantic Spring 2017 Fashion

Romance is a word that has existed for some time now. It blossomed during the period of Romanticism, where literature, art, music and philosophies were produced under the header of this notion of love. There are the Romance languages, incorporating Latin, French, Italian and even Romanian, so we can understand that it’s been a bit of big deal for quite a while; how can we incorporate it into our everyday style?

Jewelry

There are some things that just don’t go out of style when it comes to romantic fashion, and timeless jewelry is one of them. If you buy pearl jewelry for example, you will be investing in something that will last for years, but also has a huge romantic history behind it; there are various poems which link up pearls and love, as pearls are meant to increase not only the love that you receive from others (it’s said that they are able to open up your heart to take in more), but the amount of self-love and praise that you can give to yourself. At a time where we are so critical of our body image, it’s important to be able to love yourself as much as you can – and if this involves splashing out on some new pearl earrings, a pearl necklace or a new ring, this is a great excuse.

Clothing

Fashion from the Romantic era is definitely coming back into trend, with the incorporation of lace onto outfits being the one thing that stands out from this Victorian style. If you want to take it into the modern day, hearts are the symbol of love that never fades away. Choose something cute and dainty that has a heart pattern on it – it doesn’t have to be overwhelming or too bold if that’s not what you want. There are certain color that emphasizes love and romance, and these are usually chosen for weddings i.e. the bridesmaids’ dresses and flower arrangements. That doesn’t mean that they can’t be worn outside of a wedding, as we would be extremely limited on what we would be able to wear! Pastels are a great choice.

Hair

Philosophers from the Romantic era emphasized the importance of emotional self-awareness, creativity and the freedom of expression in order to better us. They didn’t talk much about hair, but if they did it would probably share your hair needs to be free too, just like your thoughts and feelings. So unleash the bun, get out the detangler and let loose; your hair needs to be flowing as freely as it can. There are certain styles that you can mix and match up with, as plaits and braids can definitely add a certain je ne sais quois to long and letdown hair. Show your creativity and romantic side through the addition of these, and you are good to go – spread the love!

Discovering Your Personal Style

Recently, I’ve added style photos to my social media feed.  I wanted to share my personal style, which is categorized as chic and modern.

This leads me to the topic for the blog post. How can someone discover his or her personal style? Essentially it’s about self-awareness and understanding your clothing preferences. The definition of style is, “a distinctive appearance, typically determined by the principles according to which something is designed.”

The first step to discovering your personal style is identifying a style icon. Do you prefer the total appearance of Lady Gaga or Michelle Obama?  Grab a few magazines and create a stylebook.

The next action is to visit your closet and examine pieces you have worn on numerous occasions.  This could be a fedora hat or cardigan sweater.  Are those items complimenting your features and body type (circle, triangle, hourglass, rectangle)?

Consider your lifestyle and occupation when curating your wardrobe.  A corporate executive should invest in a high quality suit; same concept applies for weekly Pilates sessions.

Accessories are the best assets for discovering your personal style.  They allow you to change a look without purchasing new clothing.  A classic wristwatch can upgrade an inexpensive blouse.

Ultimately, it’s about feeling great and presenting yourself in a positive manner!

Quick Wardrobe Tips:

  •  Invest in alterations for ill-fitting items
  •  Use the dry-cleaners sparingly – can damage clothing fibers
  •  Spend extra money on work shoes, blazers, jeans, bras, suiting, and outerwear
  •  Find unique pieces at consignment or thrift shops
