#MetGala Get The Look Breakdown: Rita Ora and Celebrity MUA Kathy Jeung

Celebrity MUA, Kathy Jeung created pop star, Rita Ora’s Old-Hollywood Glam look for the chicest night in fashion. Think ultra-thin brows and dramatic contour and highlight!

See the full breakdown of her look in which Kathy used highly pigmented cosmetic products from the vegan and cruelty-free beauty brand, Nanacoco Professional.

GET THE LOOK BREAK DOWN: Rita Ora by Kathy Jeung

My inspiration for the look was Rita’s gold sequined dress by Marc Jacobs Couture. It inspired me to give Rita a 1930’s screen goddess look: thin eyebrows, deep contours on the eyes with metallic shimmer on eyelids, satin finish bronzed skin, lips lightly lined with a shimmery nude gloss

MAKEUP-
I began Rita’s looking by using Nanacoco HD Powder Foundation in Warm Tan. This allowed me to create a base for a warm glow. Next came the concealer. First I began with a correcting concealer, the Nanacoco HD Cover Concealer in Orange using Nanacoco Airfare Concealer Brush 907 . The orange shade allowed me to eliminate any dark circles under the eyes. Next I took to a natural concealer (Nanacoco HD Cover Concealer in Natural) again using the same brush.

One the base was complete, I moved on to contouring/highlight with the Nanacoco Contouring & Strobing Palette in Medium, using the Nanacoco Flat Contour Brush and for highlighting the Highlighter Brush & Angled Powder Brush 902

The eyebrows were the most major (and most time consuming) part of this look. Before I started any of Rita’s look, I had to bleach her eyebrows (which took nearly 2 hours) as we wanted to create a pencil-thin brow. Once this was complete I began by highlighting them! I used the Nanacoco Browstylers Highlighter Duo in Brown/Pearl Beige . Next, I move on to grooming the actual hairs. This was one of the most important parts of this look. For this look, it was important I used an ultra-thin pencil. The super hero of the look was the Nanacoco Browstylers Micro Pencil in Dark Brown .

The eyes were also a major part of this look. I started with the eyeshadow here using the Nanacoco Eyelusive Eyeshadow Pencil in shade color, In The Night also in shade, Golden Globes . I love a good chubby stick shadow! To make the eye look even more dramatic, I used the Nanacoco Eyeshadow Quad Palette in Autumn & Elegant using Nanacoco Eyeshadow Brush 909

Next for the eye look was the liner. To compliment the color of Rita’s dress I used the Nanacoco Longwear Eye Liner in Gold using Nanacoco Smudge Brush 910 . Since the dress was all about metallics, I wanted to add that into her eye. That’s where the ultra-pigmented Nanacoco Glitzn Face & Body Pigment Orange Gold & Copper

Lashes were the end game of this look. First I coated lashes with the Nanacoco HD Extreme Volume, Curl, and Lengthening mascara. But since this is an old-hollywood glam look, I needed to add in even more drama. Enter the Nanacoco Flase Lashes. I used the line’s Gianna Style for the look.

Finally, came cheeks and lips.  Nanacoco HD Pressed Blush in Peach Coral was used on the apples of Rita’s cheeks to warm her up. As for lips, outline them with the Nanacoco Outlast Lip Liner in Burgundy for a more dramatic, defined shape. I mixed Rimmel London Exaggerate Automatic Lip Liner in Addiction and Rimmel London Stay Glossy in Bare Minimum. To give the look a final bit of shimmer, I also added the Nanacoco Shimmertallics Metallic Lip Gloss in Sunkissed.

11 Tips To Help Create More Hair Volume

Are you sick of limp locks, flat hair and dying to have more hair volume? If your dream or goal is to increase your hair volume, here are 11 ultimate tips for you. Feel free to give them a try for better results.

Featured Image from Go Fug Yourself

Back brush it

In this case, use a large paddle brush to back brush your hair roots to create a soft hair volume. Combs with fine teeth will create massive tangles.

Pin the uppermost layers of the hair and then back-brush the rest section by section. Hold each section away from your head and brush down at the root in three, fast strokes. A hairspray to each brushed area will see your volume last for a while. Let your hair down upon completion.

Enhance your roots

Make root-boosting products to your friends. They support any manual lifts you make near the roots of your hair to help your style last. Locate products designed only for fine hair and apply them on your scalp. These products should be used on damp hair.

Change your part

It is not surprising that you have a favorite place where you part your hair. Mostly your hair likes to fall on this part naturally. It is here where your hair lies flattest and you like it to stay that way.

Changing your part to the other side will instantly create volume at the top. To achieve most height, apply a deep side part on the other side in dry hair, spraying it lightly to hold.

Blow dry upside down

This is the best shortcut to achieve a voluminous blowout. Just like it sounds, it is flipping the head in an upside down manner. After your haircut, use a flat-iron to finish off the ends of your hair for more voluminous hair look. Your scalp is automatically lifted by the roots to give you that outlook in this technique.

Crimp your roots

Crimping is done at the root of your hair to rough up its texture, making it stand out from your scalp. This method was highly popular in the 80s. Requiring nil expertise, it also takes a few minutes to do it. The top layer of your hair is able to hide crimping from any detection.

Use hot rollers

This method is often forgotten. Unlike flat and curling irons, this requires no special method. It works perfectly on the dry hair where you put hot rollers on your hair and by the time you’re finished with your make-up the job will be done too.

Ensure you choose the direction of your waves. You can choose to roll away for glamorous Hollywood-like waves or towards the face to create a more vintage look. Misting the sections with hairspray before rolling makes the volume last. When the rollers have cooled, take them out to brush and shape your waves for a modern, soft look.

Sleep in a bun

Wash your hair and pull it up into a loose, high bun while damp and then secure it with something soft and elastic. This will dry your hair while lifted off your scalp. When you loosen it you’ll achieve volume and a bonus of soft waves.

Apply volume building shampoo

Sounds like the right tool for the job, right? This shampoo will align with your volume goals. To find a shampoo that is safe and doesn’t strip your hair, ensure your products are translucent or clear as they’re unlikely to be laden with heavy hair conditioning agents.

Use dry shampoo

When you finish blow-drying your hair, apply a layered coat of dry shampoo on your scalp. This layer prevents oils from destroying your volume thus helping it to last longer. Innately, dry shampoo is volume building. To create more texture, spray it throughout the lengths as well.

Add color

Color is not just about color but also the texture it gives your hair. A color ingredient, peroxide, add a body that roughs up your hair cuticle to help those with flat hairs that don’t support volume styles.

Remove conditioner with a cold rinse

Cold water better removes residue than warm water. In essence, it removes all traces of conditioners that might be sabotaging your strands enabling you to achieve volume easily when you go to blow dry your hair.

Celebrity Makeup Artist Kathy Jeung worked with Rita Ora for tonight’s Grammy Awards – below is a breakdown of the look!

Who: Rita Ora at the 2018 Grammy Awards

The Inspiration: With the classic shape of Ralph & Russo dress, Kathy wanted to keep the focus on Rita’s complexion and eyes – giving her skin a satin finish with a touch of radiance and highlighter to accentuate Rita’s bone structure, and a simple glossy eye with lashes that lift the outer corners.

How to Get the Look:

Lips
Kathy applied Rimmel London Stay Matte Liquid Lip Colour in Plum This Go to give Rita a dark, bold lip.

Skin
Kathy applied Rimmel London Lasting Finish Breathable Primer all over Rita’s cleansed, toned and moisturized face to keep makeup fresh and long-lasting, creating a smooth, pore minimized canvas for makeup. She then applied Rimmel London #Insta Conceal & Correct underneath Rita’s eyes, erasing dark circles. Next, Kathy applied Rimmel London Match Perfection Concealer in Light/Medium with her ring finger, in a tapping motion underneath the eyes to blend into the rest of Rita’s face. Kathy mixed Rimmel London Lasting Finish 25HR Foundation in 303 True Nude with small amount of Rimmel London Good to Glow Highlighter in 003 Soho Glow to give her skin luminosity, by applying it with a flat foundation brush in broad strokes over Rita’s face, and blended with a damp sponge, giving Rita a natural looking finish. Kathy set the foundation with Rimmel London’s #Insta Fix & Matte Translucent Powder, helping to keep Rita’s forehead, sides of the nose and cheeks shine-free.

Cheeks
Kathy used Rimmel London Kate Moss Sculpting & Highlighting Kit in Golden Sands to highlight the tops of Rita’s cheekbones, above her jawline and down the length of her nose. She contoured the hollows under her cheekbones, just under her jawbone and under her chin using a narrow wedge brush and applied the blush using a rounded brush on the apples of her cheeks and extended towards temples.

Kathy finished up the cheeks by using Rimmel London’s Insta Duo Contour Stick to highlight along the tops of the cheekbones and blend with a damp sponge.

Eyes
Kathy applied the beige shade of the Rimmel London Magnif’Eyes Shadow Contouring Palette Blush Edition to the browbone and blended the matte taupe color into the crease. Then she applied Rimmel London’s ScandalEyes Eyeshadow Stick in Witness White to the inner corners of Rita’s eyes and blended for a trace of highlight. She then added Rimmel London Oh My Gloss in Clear to Rita’s eyelids to add a glossy, high shine. She lined Rita’s eyes using Rimmel London ScandalEyes Precision Micro Eyeliner in Black to create a very narrow wing along the lashline. To finish the eyes, she applied two coats of Rimmel London Shake It Fresh Mascara in Black to the upper lashes only to lengthen and thicken Rita’s lashes.

Brows
Kathy used Rimmel London Professional Eyebrow Pencil to fill in and extend Rita’s brow shape, followed by Rimmel London Brow This Way Brow Pomade in Medium to softly add color and keep the brow hairs in place. She finished the brows by applying Rimmel London Brow This Way Highlighting Pencil to lift the arches of the brow and add highlight to the brow bone.
