Local DMC works to Showcase Birmingham through a new Lens

Encouraging residents and tourist to see ALL of Birmingham through a new lens!  Destination Birmingham will launch its “Get to Know #MyBirmingham” program on Saturday, July 13th with the first annual Street Art Scavenger Hunt.  Its all part of their effort to provide Birmingham with community events that force interaction, tourism, and out-of-the-box concepts.  In addition, the program acts as a catalyst to help boost revenues of participating businesses along with the hunt.  In 2020, the DMC plans to add 2-3 additional scavenger hunts with different themes.
How it Works
Participants tour our wonderful city while engaging in epic photoshoots, day parties, AND winning a beach trip! This scavenger hunt forces you to take pictures with some of Birmingham’s most popular and not-so-popular public art + murals + street art on this full-day outing.  Utilizing the clues provided, participants explore the city and snap pics of their answers.  Participants shouldn’t be surprised to find themselves partying at a local hangout with drink specials and totally having to get back on track!  But this is not just fun and games… a free beach trip goes to the 1st Place Winner and gift cards to Birmingham’s Best Restaurants, Top Attractions, and favorite hangouts are up for grabs as well.

YOLANCRIS COUTURE FW19: Paris Fashion Week

The Couture FW19 collection presents a hidden, dark, darkly romantic spring with a Gothic touch. Inspired by the stories of Edgar Allan Poe and the illustrations by Harry Clarke and Aubrey Beardsley, the colorful characteristic of the brand gives way to a black and white that are fused and contrasted in forms that are reminiscent of the decorative arts of the late nineteenth century and early twentieth.

Along with Art Nouveau and Arts & Crafts, the other most important influence of the creative director Yolanda Pérez are the decades of the 60s and 70s of the 20th century. The black and white binomial of the collection has its point in common with the op art of the 60s, being the graphics of the French designer Louis Féraud a reference point in conceiving and creating the ornamentations of the pieces of the collection with abundant embroideries and hand-sewn rhinestones. Among the collaborators, Yolancris has worked with Roselinde’s jewelry.

The light of the Canary Islands and its natural landscapes are the greatest inspiration of Ros Jiménez, owner and designer of the brand. The House also collaborated with British footwear brand Sophia Webster. Hair and makeup were coordinated by Marcello Costa and his team, PR and management of the show were done by Totem Fashion and the consulting by Mabel Gago.

Nia Long Protective Twist Braids: Photo of The Day

Nia Long showcased her new summer hairstyle. We all remember the days of mom braiding our hair for the warmer months.

It was a protective style and you knew better than to sweat out your braids when playing outside with your favorite cousin!

That reason alone is why this picture gives us “all the feels” and her perfectly laid edges are icing on the cake.  Nia Long will always be a 90’s favorite and epic actress for our time!

Ladies, what’s your favorite protective hairstyle?

Today ESSENCE Communications, Inc. announced that the 2019 ESSENCE Festival presented by Coca-Cola will host exclusive keynote conversations with five of the leading Democratic contenders in the 2020 Presidential race, including Senator Cory Booker, Mayor Pete Buttigieg, Senator Kamala Harris, Former Representative Beto O’Rourke and Senator Elizabeth Warren.  These live ‘Presidential Spotlight’ segments will take place on Saturday, July 6 and Sunday, July 7, 2019, on the ESSENCE Power Stage at the Ernest N. Each candidate will appear individually to outline his or her platform, addressing a live audience from the Power Stage at the ESSENCE Festival’s daytime experience.  Candidates will then field questions generated directly from the ESSENCE community, which includes more than 24 million Black women.   The ‘Presidential Spotlight’ segments will take place throughout the day, with each candidate appearing for 20 minutes:
