NYE 2012 Recap: New York, Washington DC, and Baltimore

NYE is a time to celebrate “new” beginnings with family and friends! This is also a significant holiday because we create resolutions that will inspire us for the upcoming year.

Although 2012 was dynamic year, I think it’s universal to say that we’re (all) striving towards individual change, personal growth, and a closer spiritual connection for the 2013 year.

Celebrating in the New York: New year, new trend! Among the number of new trends this new year in the Big Apple, many New Yorkers and celebs, opted to attend small intimate house parties rather than foot the bill for a lavish night out. Low-key parties were attended by socialites and trendsetters throughout the city. Despite the smaller venues attended this New Year’s Eve, fashion was in full swing! Tuxedo jackets adorned or paired with heavy jewelry was a consistent trend.

Celebrating in Washington DC: I celebrated New Year’s Eve in DC at Alero’s Restaurant and Bar Nine. I purchased my dress and coat from H&M and wore Zara Shoes. My New Year’s Resolution is continue to work on me in becoming a better person!

Celebrating in Baltimore: We partied at Select Lounge in Baltimore, Maryland. One of my New Years resolutions is to get closer to God.

Celebrating in Baltimore: We celebrated at the Pisces Lounge, at the Hyatt Place Baltimore (where we also made a reservation for the evening.) I wore a black lace dress purchased from H&M along with black, leather knee boots (from Guess.) I also carried a black fur coat, just in case we stepped outside for the fireworks. The ADIDAS snapback cap was a gift to my hubby, who thought “this” would make a “fly” picture! {wink}

The Red Brunch at Tabaq Bistro: Networking Event

On Sunday, December 16, 2012 I attended “The Red Room” Brunch located at Tabaq Bistro in Washington D.C.  The purpose of  the event was for individuals in the Baltimore/Washington area to network, collaborate, and share ideas.  In addition, the new brunch series supported Carl Johnson and Silva Lining with their “Drive 2 Provide” Toy Drive.

During the brunch, Candice Nicole and Tommie Collins also raffled several gifts such as concert tickets, event tickets, beverages, art work, etc.   The brunch menu included a variety of breakfast foods ranging from mimosas, blood marys, omelets, pancakes, steak, eggs, and fruit.

There’s nothing like pancakes, fruit, and mimosas!

SLF Favorite: Color Secrets Professional Nail Polish

There’s no secret that I love nail polish! For me, there’s nothing “sweeter” than looking at my nails after they’re painted (with a special color.)  I also adore nail polish because manicures (of today) allow us to show our creative side with nail art, prints, and decals.

Product Samples from Color Secrets: Nail Polish and Lash Enhancing System

A few weeks ago, I received product samples in the mail from Color Secrets Professional.  I was very excited to open the package.  Not only did I receive a hot, new shade (Titanic) but enclosed I also received a Glitter Top Coat and LashFood.

I decided to wait (anxiously) for my new manicure before I tried both shades.  Being that I’m a “girly girl”, I am always skeptical about nail polish because some nail brands do not retain their color and chip easily.

But this was not the case with Color Secrets Professional polish. Not only was the color very rich and the perfect consistency for polishing your nails but it also lasted for a few days. Normally, polish does not last on my nails because I’m a busy mom.

With the use of Color Secrets, my nail polish lasted, held it’s color, and did very little chipping. Overall, I would recommend this polish to my girlfriends or anyone that’s seeking to try a new nail brand. With so many shades to chose from, I look forward to trying additional colors/products in the future!

Instant Style, Life, and Fashion on Instagram

Instagram, Instagram, Instagram! We are all obsessed with pictures and there’s no better (quick and easy) photo editing software other than Instagram.  Although in the blogging world, it’s not considered “true” photography, in my opinion it’s a great way to showcase your style, life, and fashion.

With that being said, I have also fallen victim to loving the (quick) use of Instagram software.  Honestly, this happened as a surprise because I am busy managing other social networking sites and thought to myself, “there’s no way I could possibly manage another site.”

But contrary to my thoughts, I am posting on Instagram and love the fun that I’m having on there.  So my suggestion is to tap your inner photography skills, use a little creativity, and start posting on Instagram.

Repairing the “Red” on Your Bottoms

I purchased my first pair of Christian Louboutin shoes (also known as red bottoms or Loubous) from Saks Fifth Avenue last winter.  My interest in the Parisian designer had little to due with the trend but merely because of my love for quality and great design.

In addition, I was always taught there’s three things a woman must own for a sophisticated look: a quality handbag, good hosiery, and a pair of well made shoes!

 

For me, this was an excuse to grab a pair of those sexy, red bottoms while also showcasing my legs (wink.)  But, over time and several different social functions, I noticed the red paint on the bottom of my shoes needed repair.  As a fashion girl, of course I knew there was a solution to the problem!

 

After all, I am the daughter of a DIY Queen (my mother) and with a pretty steady hand could repair that lovely red sole.

My  first step was to search for the EXACT red paint on the bottom of my shoes and luckily I found a company name Save Your Sole.  To sum it up, this is a company located in the UK that’s dedicated to helping us preserve the bottom of our shoes.  And after purchasing the paint, following directions, and letting it dry….this was the end result.

 

One step that I almost forgot to mention is that before painting the bottom of my soles, I also put my shoes in the local shop for heel repair.   So there you have it!  Good luck on repairing the “red” on your bottoms.

Fashion’s Night Out 2012 hosted by Baltimore Fashion Alliance

The Baltimore Fashion Alliance is an organization that brings together individuals working in the fashion industry.  This year, along with several volunteers and vendors, they served as the primary (local) host for Fashion’s Night Out 2012.  During the event, guests were given the opportunity to shop with vendors, view the latest designs, and network with fashion professionals.

One of the highlights of this year’s event, was the “Be Ahead of the Tr3ND” Fashion Show” hosted by BFA and Mosaic Night Club and Lounge.  This year’s fashion show included garments from local Baltimore Boutiques such as The Cupcake Boutique, Babe, South Moon Under along with access to the After Party at Mosaic Lounge.  Overall, this was a great event for the Baltimore Fashion community and we look forward to next year’s participation!
