Inauguration Fashion: Michelle Obama’s Blue Thom Brown Coat

In honor of today’s inauguration, we are posting pictures of Michelle Obama to celebrate the second term of President Barack Obama!

As we can tell from the photos below, it’s all about “The Coat” when we address the fashion of our first lady.  She’s looking elegant as ever this morning for the swearing in ceremony, wearing a blue Thom Brown coat!

Photos are from The Huffington Post

It was stated this morning that Michelle Obama is one of the ONLY first ladies to wear a sleeveless dress in the White House. To keep this fashion trend going, she works out religiously to keep those arms fit!  Go Michelle!

SLF Favorite: Color Secrets Professional Nail Polish

There’s no secret that I love nail polish! For me, there’s nothing “sweeter” than looking at my nails after they’re painted (with a special color.)  I also adore nail polish because manicures (of today) allow us to show our creative side with nail art, prints, and decals.

Product Samples from Color Secrets: Nail Polish and Lash Enhancing System

A few weeks ago, I received product samples in the mail from Color Secrets Professional.  I was very excited to open the package.  Not only did I receive a hot, new shade (Titanic) but enclosed I also received a Glitter Top Coat and LashFood.

I decided to wait (anxiously) for my new manicure before I tried both shades.  Being that I’m a “girly girl”, I am always skeptical about nail polish because some nail brands do not retain their color and chip easily.

But this was not the case with Color Secrets Professional polish. Not only was the color very rich and the perfect consistency for polishing your nails but it also lasted for a few days. Normally, polish does not last on my nails because I’m a busy mom.

With the use of Color Secrets, my nail polish lasted, held it’s color, and did very little chipping. Overall, I would recommend this polish to my girlfriends or anyone that’s seeking to try a new nail brand. With so many shades to chose from, I look forward to trying additional colors/products in the future!

MAC Cosmetics Holiday 2012 Collection and Ways to Make Your Eye Color Pop by Danielle Ward

Enjoy photos from the MAC Cosmetics Holiday 2012 Collection

The eyes are one of the first things that people will notice when they look at your face, so it is important to play them up. They can tell a lot about you and can be as mysterious or as alluring as you make them. Whether you have blue, brown, green or hazel eyes, your eye color doesn’t have to be dull. Play up your eyes and make them pop with these techniques.

Eye shadow

The use of eye shadow is one of the easiest ways to create dramatic and attention getting eyes. There are hundreds of shades to choose from so the best way to determine which colors will look the best with your skin tone and eye color is by using a color wheel. Although most people assume their eyes are basically one color, they are actually a mixture of various colors and a color wheel will help you find the most optimum colors for your eyes. For example, if you have brown eyes with green tones, you will be able to wear colors that compliment both browns and greens. To use a color wheel, simply find the colors of your eyes and follow the complimenting colors or for a dramatic look, use the contrasting colors.

Eyeliner

Eyeliner is a fun way to make your eyes stand out, because you can experiment with different colors and different application techniques. If you want to give your eyes a subtle, sophisticated look use brown eyeliner or for more dramatic, attention grabbing eyes choose a heavy black. To use eyeliner for creating a subtle and sophisticated look, apply a thin line along the lower rim of your eyes and a fine line just above the upper eyelashes. To create a dramatic effect, make a slightly thicker line just above the upper eyelashes and a thinner line just below the bottom eyelashes. To get the smokey eyed look, use black eyeliner above the upper eyelashes, smudge it slightly and apply eye shadow in a mixture or grays or browns and blend with a large eye shadow brush. If you have deep set eyes and want them to appear larger, on the inside of the bottom rim of your eye, apply white liner and a thin line of soft black or brown just under the bottom eyelashes. Colored eyeliner can be used when you want to create a fun, dramatic effect.

Mascara

Mascara is the perfect finishing touch to making your eyes appear polished, bright and alluring. Mascara comes in a variety of choices; however, any type you choose will thicken the lashes and help to frame your eyes. Brown mascara will give your eyelashes a more natural color, while black mascara will frame the eyes better and help you make a statement with your eyes. To apply mascara and avoid clumping, hold the wand or the brush just below the upper eyelashes, look upward and slowly blink to allow the color glide onto the eyelashes. If you prefer more than one coat, let the first coat dry before applying a second coat. For all day results, use waterproof mascara to prevent smudging and running.

Using an eyelash curler before applying mascara will make your eyelashes appear fuller and frame your eyes making them look bigger and brighter. If you are new to using eye makeup and have no idea which brand of makeup will work the best for you, use an online service like Cheapsally.com coupons to save money while you are experimenting with colors and brands. Keep in mind when you are applying eye makeup that the goal is to make the color of your eyes pop and look natural, so avoid applying thick layers of color and blend well using a large eye shadow brush.

MAC Cosmetics will launch Grey Friday, a lipstick and nail polish duo (black-grey with a silver shimmer) the day after Thanksgiving aka “Black Friday.”

Della Ricca Hair Color Announces a Color Concierge and Participating Salon in Bethesda, Maryland

HOUSTON – (October 31, 2012) Della Ricca Hair Color, the premiere at-home hair coloring system, is pleased to announce a partnership with a board certified “color concierges” located in Bethesda, Maryland.

Della Ricca Hair Color has joined forces with Patrick Maloy of LUX Studio to ensure the utmost convenience for its Maryland area customers. The Board Certified Master Haircolorist, a national distinction achieved by few in the field, has the expertise and capabilities to work with clients and create a custom color formula based on their individual needs.

Customers can expect their color concierge to create a custom-blended color formula based on a wide range of criteria, including eye color, skin tone, hair texture, thickness, hair styling and coloring history. Within 10 days of the consultation, clients will receive a custom color kit in the mail for $30 plus shipping for the first order and only $25 for each additional order.

About Della Ricca Hair Color

After recognizing the need for a high quality at-home hair coloring system, Karen Anne Vinson founded Della Ricca Hair Color in April 2011. With more than 25 years of experience, and as the first Texan and now one of only 10 Board Certified Master Haircolorists in the Houston area, Vinson has the capability and expertise to bring clients salon quality color right to their doorsteps.

For less than half the price of a salon visit, Della Ricca Hair Color is quick and easy to apply at home, making it perfect for those who want consistent color while traveling, don’t have time to visit a salon, or simply want a higher quality at-home hair coloring system.

With over 500 styles of box color available, coloring hair at home can prove to be extremely overwhelming, not to mention risky. Della Ricca eliminates these risks by arranging clients with a free consultation with a “color concierge”, in person or via Skype, to discuss their color needs. These Board Certified Master Haircolorists will then create a custom-blended color formula based on a wide range of criteria, including eye color, skin tone, hair texture, thickness, hair styling and coloring history.

Within 10 days of the consultation, clients will receive their custom color kit in the mail, which includes the customized color, a developer and personalized instructions written specifically for the client’s hair.

When NOT to Wear High Heels ~ Guest Writer Nisha

Despite what the podiatrists or chiropractors may say about our feet (and posture) for many of us, high heels are a fashion necessity, imperative to fashion divas’ mental and emotional health. Few accessories can create the same muscle tone, leg length, and general shapeliness that a pair of beautiful heels can achieve. Yet, regardless of all of the visual benefits of heels, some outfits simply do not pair well with our favorite fashion footwear.  Let me explain why….

Heading to the Gym? Leave the Heels at Home

Perhaps no type of shoe is more activity-specific than an athletic shoe, and with good reason! In order to properly support your body and cushion your feet, knees, hips, and spinal column during impact, your athletic shoe needs to fit the particular strain of the activity. Even if you do not invest in a separate pair of shoes for each sport or activity in which you participate, it is obvious that heels are not the best choice for athletics. Even school-age children know that you need gym shoes to participate in gym, so lace up some sneakers when donning active wear and leave your heels in the closet.

Consider Length

Undoubtedly, heels are meant to elevate an outfit, so consider the length of any skirts or pants that you choose to pair with them. Several years back celebrities were spotted sporting shorts with stilettos, but unless you are walking the runway, this look is very difficult to pull off. Perhaps a short, tight-fitting skirt with heels will boost your confidence for a night of clubbing, but always keep the atmosphere of an event in mind when selecting shoes. Shorts and skirts above the knee are casual wear, choose a casual flat or sandal.

Likewise, any trousers or jeans that you plan to pair with a heel should just touch the top of your foot and the bottom of your heel. Choose a high heel that adds length to your leg and compliments the outfit without drawing undue attention to your feet or to mistakenly exposed ankles. As for capris, these short pants are by nature more casual. Stick with a flat or sneaker and avoid a heel altogether.

Pay Attention to Height

Unless you are Lady Gaga, higher heels does not always mean a better look. When pairing footwear with an outfit, you should always consider your height and build. For example, if you are on the petite side, you may lean towards higher heels to make up a bit of the height difference, but a 3 or 4-inch heel could actually make you appear shorter and stockier. Higher heels force your calf muscles to work harder, contracting the muscles and bringing attention to the widest part of your calf instead of drawing eyes to the overall length of your leg. For the best overall look, try on heels with an outfit, or at least with pants or skirts with the same cut and fit as you will wear with a pair of heels.

Heels, like all accessories, are meant to accentuate your positives and boost your confidence, not draw all attention to the heels themselves.
