Cynthia Rowley Presents an All-Female Comedy Show for FW23 #NYFW

Cynthia Rowley presented an all-female comedy show at Sony Hall on Monday, February 13th. The designer’s latest NYFW show took on a whole new format this season, featuring an immersive hour of stand-up led by some of comedy’s most renowned female voices, all dressed by Cynthia Rowley.

Fashion and comedy have always been a great escape, and there seems to be a collective zeitgeist toward the necessity for humor right now. A sense of humor has been a part of the brand’s DNA since the very beginning, and Rowley’s mission to express fearless fun that brings joy through each collection remains as strong as ever.

“I start each day with ten minutes of stand up,” says Cynthia Rowley. “I’ve long said I wish fashion were funnier. Not necessarily the clothes, but the attitude. After hosting a stand-up comedy night at my store in Montauk this summer with my friend and collaborator Seth Herzog (The Tonight Show with Jimmy FallonBroad City, 30 Rock, Chappelle Show), it became clear to me that it was time to realize my long-standing dream to host so many of my favorite funny ladies on one stage.”

Featuring some of the biggest names in comedy, the all-star all-female cast included comedians Nikki Glaser (Welcome Home Nikki Glaser? on E!), Rachel Feinstein (Last Comic Standing, HBO’s Crashing)Arden Myrin (Netflix’s Insatiable, iHeartRadio’s Will You Accept This Rose podcast)Rosebud Baker (Emmy-award winning writer, one of Variety’s “Top Ten Comics to Watch”, writer for Saturday Night Live), Claudia Oshry (Disgraced Queen on Amazon Prime, co-host of The Toast podcast)Ego Nwodim (Saturday Night Live cast member since 2018)and Michelle Buteau (Netflix’s The CircleWelcome to Beautopia).with host Esther Ku (MTV’s Girl Code, Wild ‘N Out, and Last Comic Standing) hilariously tying all of the performances together into one hour of non-stop laughs. In addition to the stars of comedy on stage, notable guests in attendance included Olivia DeJonge, Eve Jobs, Cooper Hoffman, Jane Krakowski, and Alan Cumming.

The clothes were designed with each performer in mind using references from the full collection (lookbook to come). Giant pastel paillettes, loads of sheer fabrics, and classically tailored pick-stitch pieces rendered in our signature sport fabric.

“I see fashion and comedy serving women in the same way. If you can be funny, you can feel confident. If you love what you’re wearing you feel confident. And if you can have both, even better.”

BADGLEY MISCHKA UNVEILS COLLECTION OF ORIGINAL SKETCHES TO SUPPORT FEEDING AMERICA AMID THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC

Badgley Mischka, the iconic American design house that exemplifies timeless glamour, is pleased to announce the brand’s latest initiative. In response to the COVID-19 worldwide pandemic and the uncertain, challenging times we are living in, Badgley Mischka is turning to the creativity and artistic talent of its founders and head designers, Mark Badgley and James Mischka to send messages of love, support, and solidarity through art.

Mark Badgley has created 35 one-of-a-kind sketches, conceived of and created while he and James Mischka are isolating at home in Palm Beach, Florida. Each sketch represents an emotion, mood, thought, or feeling brought on by the worldwide health crisis and each is individually titled to reflect its unique concept.

As part of the sketch initiative, Badgley Mischka is pleased to be partnering with Feeding America in an effort to give back to those that are doing so much to help people in need. All 35 of Mark’s sketches will be available on www.badgleymischka.com as part of an online auction through Ebay for Charity. Beginning today (Monday, May 11), bidding will be open for one week and 100% of the purchase price of each sketch will go directly to Feeding America. The funds raised will help Feeding America provide support to their network of food banks across the country to provide food assistance to everyone facing hunger. In addition, every sketch sold will be personalized for each winner and will be framed and shipped at no cost.

“We have been isolating in Palm Beach, Florida for eight weeks now,” said Mark Badgley.  “We decided to use this time creatively by working through some of our feelings with art,” he continued.

“After posting some of Mark’s sketches on Instagram, we had an overwhelming response and requests to purchase them,” James Mischka explained.  “We wanted to use that opportunity to benefit people in need.”

“In the face of enormous challenges, Feeding America food banks are responding with extraordinary efforts to make sure no one goes hungry during the pandemic,” said Mark. “We were supporters of Feeding America before the pandemic, and their mission is even more critical now,” added James. “Badgley Mischka is honored to be assisting in their efforts through the artistry of fashion design.”

All 35 original sketches can be seen HERE.

Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week: Yanina Spring-Summer Collection 2020

Yanina Fashion House greets the second decade of the XXI century by creating a daring, extravagant and at the same time extremely elegant Spring-Summer collection.

Stepping aside from the usual noble and discreet black and white style, designer Yulia Yanina in SS2020 collection reveals the additional facets of the designer’s work with colors and flowers.

The collection is inspired by legendary beauties of the sixties, who created the most memorable images of the generation, inspired the designer for this collection, such as Audrey Hepburn or Catherine Deneuve, Jacqueline Kennedy or Lee Radziwill. Fringes and overalls will remind of such legends as Cher and Jane Fonda, while striking mini will evoke the style of Jean Schrimpton and Twiggy.

“Rebellious spirit under the bourgeois classics » – this is the mood of a new chapter in the history of the Yanina Fashion House.

Those inspirations create a glamorous and dream-like universe. At the end of the show, Yanina comes back to the iconic dresses of the House – black dresses with the signature embroidery of filigree work. The cut is both chaste and outrageous, classical and audacious: the past enables the designer to create modern clothes, made for women who want to make a difference.

Yanina’s new collection is an ode to freedom and boldness: it magnifies the female body with chic and timeless pieces.  This new collection marks a new chapter in the history of the House counting 25 years of dressing women around the world.

Paris Fashion Week: ALIANNA LIU Runway Show Spring Summer 2020 Collection

The designer’s cats inspired Alianna Liu’s SS2020 collection. This time, she explains to the world by using her way of inspiration. The silhouette is the key between the collection and the female body. It has given the audience the sensation to represent a confident and independent woman image, as the brand identity described. By combining luxurious soft fabric with a touch of transparency, this collection is trying to bring out the natural beauty of modern femininity, a certain softness, and grace, or an ambitious and inspirational figure.

Recognizing the emotional impact that the right colors can have in design work, the color was enriched by the intensity of rainbow senses, leading to a more balanced and vibrant feeling. The embroidery technique and hand drew prints connected directly to the personal aspect of the collection. The ruffles are everywhere, communicate a romantic attitude that highlighted each attire.

Every piece from the SS 2020 collection is designed particularly to stand out from the crowd. The shapes of the pieces perfect for striking a look that people will notice and appreciate. Each detail gives the audiences for femininity sophistication, elevating them to the status of luxury fashion, that is a belief from the brand designer.

African Fashions Meet the Stylish Traveler: Shangani Fashions Contemporary African Collection

During the 2019 New York fashion showcases, Shangani Fashions reimagines fall-winter styling for the modern traveler. The brand emerged on the New York runways starting in 2017 by redefining women’s travel-wear with a contemporary African esthetic that embodies African culture and history. The name is derived from “Shoshangani” which means traveler. And is also an African tribe who dwelled near the Shangani River in Zimbabwe, Africa.

The brand continues these fundamental aesthetics with added features that contribute versatility and luxury for the modern traveler. The introduction of his and her matching style sets are an adorable signature look by Shangani that can add to the romance of any travel get-away. Shangani offers men’s apparel and accessory pieces that often complement the women’s collection. Each look is classic for the metropolitan man. Shangani caters to a “One Size Fits All” approach to different body types. The women’s collection is always multi-functional with added sex-appeal. You will always see showy legs, a peek of cleavage and African fabrics that flow.

Our goal is to reach and inspire a bigger market.” Explains Creative Director, Mary Moore. “Most of our pieces are versatile and can be styled to offer numerous looks. I began adding detachable fur collars within this season’s collection. Traveling is part of my lifestyle and having a garment that transcends climate and seasons is so convenient. I lived in Russia for a few years, and I fell in love with fur during my stay. I have always wanted to work with fur. This season I have applied detachable fur as a luxury feature to the garments.”

Shangani’s showcase includes striking jewelry and leather handbags with bold African prints and contemporary shapes that match the signature garment. The handbags range from cozy clutch purses to colorful handbags for the business traveler. The looks are suitable as traditional ethnic-wear or casual business attire. A mix of modern contemporary shapes and ethnic fabrics for the active traveler is the passion behind Shangani Fashions.
