Dress Your Best to Meet the Parents: Fashionable, Chic, and Classy

The holidays – like Thanksgiving –  are a stressful time for ladies who will be meeting their man’s parents for the first time.  You must find the perfect look to impress his mom and sisters — one that’s fashionable, chic and classy.

STEP 1: DO YOUR RESEARCH

No one will be a better judge of the in-law’s judgment than your significant other. Ask him what his moms and sister’s fashion sense is. Check out Facebook photos from past holidays. If they look like East Coast Blue Bloods, dress conservative. If they’re total ex-Berkeley activists, try hippie chic and go vintage.

STEP 2: PACK FOR EVERY OCCASION
Bring one flowery dinner outfit, one semi-sexy outfit for a night on the town with your guy, and one laid back combo for that Sunday morning stroll with his mom. Tiny skirts are best left at home – because you don’t want them to think you’re Miley’s doppelganger – and don’t channel Lady Gaga with uncomfortable fashion ensembles that will just make Granny give you side eye.

STEP 3: BRING THE WHOLE KIT & KABOODLE
Pack tons of great accessories, especially a statement necklace to glam up any normal outfit. Stella & Dot pieces, for example, can enrich any holiday outfit.

STEP 4: CHECK IN WITH YOUR FRIENDS
We know you can’t bring your fashionable friends that weekend to help you find your perfect outfit. But you can send them your fashion selfies and ask them for advice. Postelio is the perfect app to quickly and discreetly ask your friends for fashion advice.

Burberry Prorsum Fall 2013: We’ve Fallen In Love

Burberry has revamped their orignal print to a fun array of hearts galor!  The brand that was once known for it’s sophisticated plaid print has made us “fall in love” with their Prorsum Fall 2013 Heart Collection.

From handbags to blouses, this print looks great with everything and compliments everyone.  Personally, I like to see stylistas mix the print for a more daring look.  With the use of miniature hearts, this was the perfect way to refresh one of America’s favorite brands.

Keyshia Cole Interview: Launch of Steve Madden Collection in Baltimore Maryland

To my suprise and excitement, Style Life Fashion was asked to interview Keyshia Cole on Saturday, September 21, 2013.  Keyshia was visiting the Baltimore area (Towson Town Center) to promote her new shoe collection with Steve Madden.

Of course, I was very excited to interview Keyshia Cole because I do like her music (we all have our favorite song) and personal style.  But, I could also relate to her in terms of fashion, music, and relationships.

I truly enjoyed interviewing Keyshia Cole because she is very down to earth and passionate about her upcoming projects.  From our conversation, she is trying to expand her brand beyond music and aspires to have a lipgloss collaboration (Hello MAC, you have Rihanna…why not Keyshia.)

Aside from the interview, her new shoe collection is hot.  I wanted to see the shoes for myself because in addition to being a fan of Keyshia Cole, I also like Steve Madden pumps and boots.

From color assorted pumps to lace up pointed stilletos, the Keyshia Cole collection will definitely be the shoe that every girl will want.  Most importantly, the shoes are affordable and I am secretly plotting when I will purchase a pair of shoes (the DIVA in black) from the collection.

Lastly, fans in the Baltimore area did a fantastic job of welcoming Keyshia Cole to the area and truly showed support for the artist.  The event ended with Keyshia connecting with her fans while singing songs, playing games, and promoting her Steve Madden collection.

How to Find Maternity Swimwear “That Suits” by Guest Contributor Sally Neal

Shopping for maternity clothes can be a nightmare. In fact, shopping for anything baby-related can be a pretty trying experience. From the day you find out you’re expecting, your house will gradually become full of scraps of paper on which you have listed the next ten things you need to buy. Your partner will watch in slow-mo horror as the balance in the joint bank account rapidly plummets from ‘acceptable’ to ‘getting slightly worried’. The spare room will be piled high with prams, Moses baskets, baby-grows donated by well-meaning friends and family and all sorts of other paraphernalia.

Not that I’m trying to put you off, rather I want to help you during such a busy time. Take a leaf out my book: don’t sweat the small stuff. For example, I spent a great deal of time trying on maternity swimming costumes and bikinis in the shops when I was expecting, only to realise that I could have found one on line. The Internet is a fantastic tool to use when you are pregnant, as there are loads of handy hints about what you need to do and lots of blogs which you can read.

I also felt under quite a lot of pressure to do a sufficient amount of exercise whilst pregnant. At first, I carried on with my normal light jogging routine, but after a while I found running was too much to contend with. Going for long walks sounded like an attractive option, but unfortunately I worked full time up until 8 months so I could not devote time to doing this. Then I found out that swimming was a viable alternative.

In terms of exercise, for example, swimming is one of the best ways a Mum-to-be can get the exercise she needs without overstretching. In terms of swimwear, fashion lines are much more au fait with flattering a pregnant wearer than a decade ago, hence there is a much wider choice of cossies to choose from. Comfort and flexibility make for a comfortable bikini or swim suit.

Here’s how to choose a swim suit to suit you:

-Pick a bikini or costume with adjustable straps to support your bust, should you need additional support in this area

– If you are feeling smaller on top, a halter neck bikini top will enhance your bust. Bright colours or ruffles will also help draw attention to the bust

-As many women are blessed with large hips, a heavily detailed swimsuit or a halter neck style works well to draw attention from this area. Should you opt for a bikini, wearing darker bottom halves will focus the eyes on the top

-If you have a boyish figure, choosing a low-leg swimsuit will make your body appear longer
So, grab a swimming costume and get rid of all that pregnancy stress by going for a swim. It can’t be that bad, as people do it again and again! In fact, I’m currently pregnant with baby number two! Better start writing some more lists…

Celebrity Chic Style

Aside from my love of fashion shows, trend watching, and product testing, I also enjoy staying abreast of current celebrity styles.

As someone in the fashion industry, it is important to know what celebrities are wearing because designers and boutiques will send current trends to those in the industry.  In addition, fashion stylist will also try a new concept or look to help establish an entertainer.

Either way, many of us understand that fashion “trickles down” to the mainstream audience. From that point it is up to us to select something we like and make it apart of our “personal style.”  Thank goodness for fashion boutiques that help us look sophisticated, chic, and trendy!
