Beyonce and Selena Gomez Set New Fall Trend: Margo Manhattan Jewelry

As you may already know we are two days away from the official start of Fall and the newest trends have already begin to emerge. Beyonce and Selena Gomez have made a clear distinction in their choice of jewelry designer and selected Margo Manhattan as their go to brand of choice.

The Manhattan based jewelry designer is keeping a tight lip about the specific pieces selected by Beyonce for her two upcoming videos “Liquor” and “Hugs and Kisses,” however she gave StyleLifeFashion exclusive photos of the complete collection.

Among other A-List celebs that have grown very fond of the brand is Selena Gomez. Selena recently stopped in the Manhattan location to purchase Margo’s signature Passion ring, two rings that fit perfectly together to form one complete ring, for both herself and her mother. The brand has been receiving lots of attention and promises to have custom and signature pieces to fit your unique style. To see more visit:

VMA’s 2013 Fashionable Moments: The Editor’s Likes and Issues…Let’s Talk About It!

The Video Music Awards is one of the most fashionable moments where a music artist can shine.

Celebrities can push the limits while introducing a new trend or bring back a touch of “rock and roll” glamour.

And then there’s the select few that leave us confused and wondering what happened to their look.  Needless to say, no matter how it’s addressed, fashion’s a huge component of the VMA’s and it’s always fun to recap the selections that we saw (on our television screens.)

Photos below are from Elle Magazine.

My Like: The dress is very couture and her body looks great!  The bead work mixed with orstrich feathers looks amazing.  My Issue: This is very similiar to a look  we have seen at another event.

Miley Cyrus

My Like: The beading stitched on the top and leggings looks gorgeous.  My Issue: I am not sure what’s going on with her hairstyle (looks very pre – k) and maybe a pair of stilletos would’ve pulled this look together.

Taylor Swift

My Like: Taylor looks very grown up and elegant. My Issue: This entire look would be great for the Oscars. She could’ve pushed the limits a bit more.

Ellie Goulding
My Like: She did it just right! The spikes on her dress add a touch of rock and roll also her nude pumps are the exact shade of her dress which elongates her torso. My Issue: I don’t have any issues with this look!

Rita Ora

My Like: The tail on this dress is very eye catching with orstrich feathers and a beautiful shade of blue.  The bodice also stands out because it’s completely beaded with a plunging neckline.  My Issue: This hairstyle has been seen on another artist (smile.)

Selena Gomez

My Like: She did it just right! Her hair style and dress fit looks perfect. And I like the trend of wearing a hint of lingerie.  My Issue: I don’t have any issues with this look!

Joan Smalls
My Like: The chanel boots look great with her legs and skirt length.  My Issue: This look is a bit premature for the celebrity.

Lady Gaga
My Like: This is a very cohesive look. She gave us the exact amount of “goth” with a hint of feminity with an oversized bow and heart shape neckline.  My Issue: I don’t have any issues with this look!

Jennifer Hudson
My Like: The houndstooth print (which I think is also leather) coordinates well with her skirt and pumps.  My Issue: I don’t have any issues with this look!

Jemily Designs: The Idrissa Collection

The Idrissa Collection is inspired by the romance of the castles from Spain to Senegal.

The legend behind Tourmalines is that the stone passed a rainbow on its way up from the center of the Earth. So they are called “gemstone of the rainbow”

The word tourmaline comes from the Sinhalese word turamali which means “stone attracting ash”.

Brazilian Tourmalines are also called Verdelite. This name comprises the Latin ‘viridis’ (green) and the Greek suffix ‘lith’ (stone). The vibrant green actually comes from trace amounts of other materials. These stones are”Chromium-Tourmaline” a rare emerald-coloured tourmaline which has traces of Vanadium and Chromium. Though once only found in Brazil where the mines are now depleted, these deep green stones called Brazilian Tourmalines now come from other parts of the world, notably Africa.

Tourmalines amaze scientists with their “pyro-electricity” properties. Pyro is Greek for “fire”. When heated Tourmalines become electrically charged. When cooled Tourmalines have a positive charge at one end of the stone and a negative charge at the other.

The deep rich transparent seafoam color that illuminates these rare stones, the mined in Brazil Green Tourmalines from designer Catherine Marion’s private collection featured in her JEMILY DESIGNS . Resembling emeralds, one of the most precious of stones, these precious Brazilian Tourmalines are highly coveted indeed.

Fall 2013 Fashion Designer Trends and Collections Part II

Below are photos that provide inspiration for Fall 2013, when we consider building our wardrobe.  Based upon my previous post, “Fall 2013 Beauty Trends and Accessories” I like to stay abreast of what’s current and new as it relates to fashion, beauty, and style.

My motivation behind this post series (or more so incorporating a trends element to this blog) steams from my family and friends asking what’s popular for the upcoming season.  The people in my life acknowledge that this is my passion and therefore come to me for wardrobe advice.

Therefore, this particular write – up centers around designer trends (for the fall) that have graced the runway last Spring.   I decided to compile a few looks and hopefully they will  help “spruce” up a few items you already own.  And don’t forget, it’s always great to find inspiration but learn to make every look your own!

Tiffany & Co. Jewels “Star” in The Great Gatsby Movie

Director Baz Luhrmann’s film The Great Gatsby debuts on May 10, and with it, The Great Gatsby Collection by Tiffany & Co., inspired by the film and created in collaboration with Academy Award®-winning costume and production designer Catherine Martin.

The spectacular jewelry is based on designs from the Tiffany Archives and worn by the film’s all-star cast, including Leonardo DiCaprio and Carey Mulligan, who appear as Jay Gatsby and Daisy Buchanan.  “The jewelry symbolizes the story’s themes of wealth and privilege, and we approached its design with the utmost style and luxury in mind,” said Jon King, executive vice president of Tiffany & Co.

Tiffany’s dazzling creations illuminate the characters’ rarefied world of New York penthouses and Long Island estates.  Ms. Mulligan’s Tiffany wardrobe includes tassel necklaces and jewels with lustrous conch pearls.  At evening soirées her blond bob is circled with the Savoy, a headdress of diamonds and cultured pearls, and her gestures are accented by a hand ornament in a daisy motif and diamond rings with the Tiffany® Setting.  The daisy is also featured in earrings of Tiffany Yellow Diamonds and a long-stemmed brooch.

Elizabeth Debicki, who plays Jordan Baker, wears chandelier earrings of rose-cut diamonds, bracelets of diamonds and seed pearls, and Art Deco-inspired rings of sapphires and diamonds in platinum.  At posh parties her elegant ensembles are accented with fluid diamond necklaces and earrings of cushion-cut black onyx or emerald-cut aquamarines.

Mr. DiCaprio’s custom Brooks Brothers shirts are finished with oval cuff links of black or green enamel on 18 karat gold.  Essentials such as a slender card case and flask in sterling silver fit smoothly in the pockets of his tailored linen suits and tuxedo.

LuxeFoil Luxury Watches and Interview with Travis Ayers

Imagine a watch or piece of jewelry with an innovative design that includes metals so precise that NASA uses them in satellites. Or, an accessory adorned with metals in remarkable hues that are 500 times thinner than a human hair. These are just a few of the cutting-edge innovations LuxeFoil™ will debut this month at BASELWORLD, the world’s largest watch and jewelry show.

“LuxeFoil™ offers luxury brands a powerful combination of technologically advanced and breathtakingly beautiful materials that differentiate them from the competition and deliver up a competitive advantage, says Travis Ayers, LuxeFoil™ President. “The luxury watch and jewelry market already values precision, rarity and unique items. They also value craftsmanship and reliability. Those are all the things that are the heart of Luxel’s corporate culture and have been for 40 years. So it seemed like a natural place to start with LuxeFoil and take that into new markets. We look forward to launching the collection to the world’s pinnacle brands at BASELWORLD in a few weeks.”

What inspired you to enter the luxury watch industry?

I love watches but most of all I love innovation.  One day I was flipping through a catalogue, I think it was Nordstrom, and was immediately drawn to the accessories and  watches.  Around the same time, back in the lab, I was examining a foil through a microscope and realized it wasn’t just functional, it was beautiful.  The shine, color and reflection it produced, along with the quality that I know we’re able to achieve seemed the perfect fit for the watch industry.

How long have you been working in this?

We have been producing material for the aerospace industry for nearly 40 years but are very new to the watch and luxury goods industry.  It’s quite a different world and we’re learning so much as we prepare for Baselworld.

In your opinion, what makes your materials unique?  How can they help watch brands?

LuxeFoil™ materials are produced with a patent-pending process that involves the latest nano fabrication techniques, similar to those in semiconductor and photovoltaic industries, can are used as a design element to enhance the face of a watch.  We makes foils 500x thinner than a human hair, in approximately 20 different materials.  For example:   Gold, Platinum, Titanium.  We even offer more exotic materials such as Zirconium, Niobium, Boron, Palladium, Silicon, Rhodium, that routinely survive rocket shots launching them into space.

What are some of your greatest accomplishments?

We have been tasked by major space agencies around the world, including NASA, The European Space Agency (ESA)and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency.  In fact, our materials will be launched on ESA’s first mission to Mercury in 2015.  Our biggest fashion-related accomplishment at this point is showing at Baselworld, the largest watch and jewelry show in the world which takes place this week in Basel, Switzerland.  We’ve received great response from our initial outreach and are looking forward to the many meetings we have scheduled with some of the top watchmakers in the world.

What’s your favorite watch or watch companies?

I have a Rolex Submariner that my wife bought me when I finished my MBA but I am also drawn to several IWC designs.

What other experience do you want to share about working in the fashion industry (stylist, retail, marketing, etc.)?

The outreach and brand positioning in the luxury market is entirely different from dealing with Space Agencies.  It is such a vast market and branding is much more intentional.  It is very exciting to learn.

What’s in the future for LuxeFoil?

We expect to offer our stunning materials to watch companies from around the world.
