As you may already know we are two days away from the official start of Fall and the newest trends have already begin to emerge. Beyonce and Selena Gomez have made a clear distinction in their choice of jewelry designer and selected Margo Manhattan as their go to brand of choice.

VMA’s 2013 Fashionable Moments: The Editor’s Likes and Issues…Let’s Talk About It!

The Video Music Awards is one of the most fashionable moments where a music artist can shine.

Celebrities can push the limits while introducing a new trend or bring back a touch of “rock and roll” glamour.

And then there’s the select few that leave us confused and wondering what happened to their look.  Needless to say, no matter how it’s addressed, fashion’s a huge component of the VMA’s and it’s always fun to recap the selections that we saw (on our television screens.)

My Like: The dress is very couture and her body looks great!  The bead work mixed with orstrich feathers looks amazing.  My Issue: This is very similiar to a look  we have seen at another event.

My Like: The tail on this dress is very eye catching with orstrich feathers and a beautiful shade of blue.  The bodice also stands out because it’s completely beaded with a plunging neckline.  My Issue: This hairstyle has been seen on another artist (smile.)

My Like: She did it just right! Her hair style and dress fit looks perfect. And I like the trend of wearing a hint of lingerie.  My Issue: I don’t have any issues with this look!

The Idrissa Collection is inspired by the romance of the castles from Spain to Senegal.

The legend behind Tourmalines is that the stone passed a rainbow on its way up from the center of the Earth. So they are called “gemstone of the rainbow”

The word tourmaline comes from the Sinhalese word turamali which means “stone attracting ash”.

Brazilian Tourmalines are also called Verdelite.This name comprises the Latin ‘viridis’ (green) and the Greek suffix ‘lith’ (stone). The vibrant green actually comes from trace amounts of other materials. These stones are”Chromium-Tourmaline” a rare emerald-coloured tourmaline which has traces of Vanadium and Chromium. Though once only found in Brazil where the mines are now depleted, these deep green stones called Brazilian Tourmalines now come from other parts of the world, notably Africa.

Tourmalines amaze scientists with their “pyro-electricity” properties. Pyro is Greek for “fire”. When heated Tourmalines become electrically charged. When cooled Tourmalines have a positive charge at one end of the stone and a negative charge at the other.

Fall 2013 Fashion Designer Trends and Collections Part II

Below are photos that provide inspiration for Fall 2013, when we consider building our wardrobe.  Based upon my previous post, “Fall 2013 Beauty Trends and Accessories” I like to stay abreast of what’s current and new as it relates to fashion, beauty, and style.

My motivation behind this post series (or more so incorporating a trends element to this blog) steams from my family and friends asking what’s popular for the upcoming season.  The people in my life acknowledge that this is my passion and therefore come to me for wardrobe advice.

Therefore, this particular write – up centers around designer trends (for the fall) that have graced the runway last Spring.   I decided to compile a few looks and hopefully they will  help “spruce” up a few items you already own.  And don’t forget, it’s always great to find inspiration but learn to make every look your own!

Director Baz Luhrmann’s film The Great Gatsby debuts on May 10, and with it, The Great Gatsby Collection by Tiffany & Co., inspired by the film and created in collaboration with Academy Award®-winning costume and production designer Catherine Martin.

 INTERVIEW WITH LUXEFOIL DESIGNER/COMPANY PRESIDENT

What inspired you to enter the luxury watch industry?

I love watches but most of all I love innovation.  One day I was flipping through a catalogue, I think it was Nordstrom, and was immediately drawn to the accessories and  watches.  Around the same time, back in the lab, I was examining a foil through a microscope and realized it wasn’t just functional, it was beautiful.  The shine, color and reflection it produced, along with the quality that I know we’re able to achieve seemed the perfect fit for the watch industry.

How long have you been working in this?

We have been producing material for the aerospace industry for nearly 40 years but are very new to the watch and luxury goods industry.  It’s quite a different world and we’re learning so much as we prepare for Baselworld.

In your opinion, what makes your materials unique?  How can they help watch brands?

LuxeFoil™ materials are produced with a patent-pending process that involves the latest nano fabrication techniques, similar to those in semiconductor and photovoltaic industries, can are used as a design element to enhance the face of a watch.  We makes foils 500x thinner than a human hair, in approximately 20 different materials.  For example:   Gold, Platinum, Titanium.  We even offer more exotic materials such as Zirconium, Niobium, Boron, Palladium, Silicon, Rhodium, that routinely survive rocket shots launching them into space.

What are some of your greatest accomplishments?

We have been tasked by major space agencies around the world, including NASA, The European Space Agency (ESA)and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency.  In fact, our materials will be launched on ESA’s first mission to Mercury in 2015.  Our biggest fashion-related accomplishment at this point is showing at Baselworld, the largest watch and jewelry show in the world which takes place this week in Basel, Switzerland.  We’ve received great response from our initial outreach and are looking forward to the many meetings we have scheduled with some of the top watchmakers in the world.

What’s your favorite watch or watch companies?

I have a Rolex Submariner that my wife bought me when I finished my MBA but I am also drawn to several IWC designs.

What other experience do you want to share about working in the fashion industry (stylist, retail, marketing, etc.)?

The outreach and brand positioning in the luxury market is entirely different from dealing with Space Agencies.  It is such a vast market and branding is much more intentional.  It is very exciting to learn.

What’s in the future for LuxeFoil?

We expect to offer our stunning materials to watch companies from around the world.
