Victoria Beckham X Target Collection | Review

Target is known for providing its customers with affordable fashion.  The discount retailer has made collaborations with various clothing designers and the recent in-store collection was Victoria Beckham for Target.

Victoria Beckham is a sought after businesswoman and fashion designer.  She’s known for her sophisticated and minimalistic style.  What’s really interesting about Victoria is that she was introduced as a Spice Girl and can be seen with her kids carrying a Hermes handbag.

Victoria Beckham X Target Collection Review:

In true blogger fashion I wanted to view the collection for myself.  I must admit that Target is meticulous about placing their top-selling brands near the front of the store.  The retailer in my region displayed the One-Shoulder Dress, Mint Green Lace Bomber, and Collared Dress.  Every item was well categorized; placing the activity books and kids apparel near the designer collection.

From viewing the collection (in-store) each piece was well-made and used quality fabrics.  There were no deformities in terms of darts, zippers and stitching.  The patterns were perfect for the season with florals and scallops.

I have one suggestion that clothing pieces are created for petite sizing such as sleeves, hems, and pants length. Also, some of the items were above Target pricing. For example, the Bug Bomber Jacket was $70.00 and Cali Lily Top/Pants (purchased together) was $70.00 and above.

Special thank you to Victoria Beckham and Target for showcasing diverse models.  The collection also provided pieces in the plus size department.

MICA Fiber Students Explore Limits of Fashion

The Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) presents For a Limited Time Only, an experimental fashion event produced by MICA Fiber students in the program’s yearlong Multi Media Event course. The annual event will take place Saturday, April 22, 5 and 8:30 p.m., at the Baltimore War Memorial Building, 101 N. Gay Street.

Featuring 15 individual collections that mix fashion, performance, dance, puppetry and other media and disciplines, For a Limited Time Only highlights the range of designs, materials and conceptual ideas Fiber students employ in their ready-to-wear and high-concept fashion collections.

Developed out of MICA Fiber faculty Laure Drogoul’s Multi Media Event course, students spend two semesters working together to conceptualize and plan all aspects of producing a full-scale fashion event, including runway construction, custom lighting design and managing over 200 models, volunteers and staff who make the show happen.

The course emphasizes a collaborative and shared vision, which is embodied by the joint statement issued by the students on this year’s theme:

“For a Limited Time Only is an experimental fashion event that explores the novelty of impermanence. It aims to subvert the commercial aspect of the phrase and focus on the ephemeral nature of performative art.”

Select collections include:

Syncopation, by Erica Oh, uses the musical concepts of remixing and sampling to reference the shared cultural history of hip hop, dance and fashion.

Flora, by Cindy Perdomo, is inspired by textures from nature, such as a leaves and condensation droplets, to represent the mundane beauty of life that surrounds us.

Alisha Glenn’s Swampies mixes elements of puppetry and costume to create playful fictional creatures inspired by nature.

An image gallery of student designs can be viewed here.

Participating designers include Alison Baskerville, Carol Chu, Amanda Elie, Alisa Glenn, Suwan Kim, Brit Kolich, Ashley Lian, Demetra Maheras, Alie Medina-Fetterman, Erica Oh, Cindy Perdomo, Arooj Qamar, Caroline Smouse, Alessandra Vasi and Babs Weiss.

Click here for more information about For a Limited Time Only, with individual student profiles and more information about their fashion lines.

Tickets can be purchased in person at the MICA store or online at store.mica.edu. General admission is $14 and $7 for students with a valid ID. Doors open approximately 30 minutes prior to showtime.

Dryel At-Home Dry Cleaner 101 – Save Time and Money

Silk blouses, knit cardigans, and seersucker pants are great items to purchase when refreshing your wardrobe.  The only problem is that these pieces need to be dry-cleaned.

Aside from the other things on my to-do list, packing up and driving to the dry-cleaners can be a chore.  I’m waiting in line (and hoping) to receive items back in a few days.  Luckily, there’s an option that will save time and money!

Dryel is an at-home dry cleaner and it’s very easy to use.  I was introduced to the product several years ago as a college student.  I wore vintage sweaters that needed to be dry-cleaned.  Dryel was the perfect choice because during that time I was living on a dorm-room budget. Using the product saved up to 90% the cost of dry-cleaning.

Also, there’s no need to have an expensive machine because Dryel works with any home cleaning appliance.  I followed directions printed on the box and my clothes were done in a few minutes.  The items did not shrink or loose its color.

Continue to check back on the site, I will be sharing more Dryel home-cleaning tips and new product launches!
