Technology continues to creep up on us, growing faster than anyone could have predicted just a few short years ago. One of these ways is in the field of marketing. And if you’re a blogger, short of getting yourself a marketing qualification or doing online MBA programs no GMAT, it would be almost impossible to know how to do all of the things that you need to do in order to promote yourself. Well, here are some ideas on how to get your name out there using technology as your voice, in particular, social media.

There are ways of growing to a million people in a year by using Pinterest, for example, but you need to know where to start. When you say social media, you are actually talking about a big thing. There are so many different types of networks offering a variety of options. So much so that knowing where to start can be a lot harder to judge than you might first expect. Well, let’s break down the main players and what they have to offer.

  1. Facebook

Facebook is the logical place to start. It has the most users of all of the social media companies and is continuing to grow by buying other companies and integrating their service into the Facebook way of networking. As a blog, you should create your own Facebook page and use it as a platform to interact with your readers. Word of mouth has always been one of the best ways to market a brand, and Facebook is where the most amounts of mouth and eyes are online. One of the brands that Facebook bought is Instagram, a photo-sharing network, which you will want to explore as well.

  1. Twitter

Sometimes considered a rival to Facebook, but not likely to ever overtake it, is Twitter. This social media website prides itself on allowing its users to take part in a wider conversation in a concise way. It encourages people to speak to each other on a range of topics and you, as a blogger, should be getting in on that action. Keep an eye on popular hashtags and add your voice to the topic so that you are getting noticed. Your content on Twitter matters, the more interesting and engaging it is, the more retweets you will get leading to interactions and gaining followers.

Bloggers weren’t around long before the Vlogger started to take over. These days video content is considered by some to be as important as the written word. YouTube is a good place for you to get your face out there. You should create content which links viewers to your blog such as reviews of products, movies or advice. One of the keys with all of the social media is creating synergy between your accounts. Link one to the other and create a spider’s web for your brand in order to catch as many readers as possible.

Keri Hilson and My City 4 Ways Culture Festival from Essence and Ford

Over the weekend, Essence and FORD once again joined forces to bring the My City 4 Ways Culture Festival to Houston for its last stop. Ford brought the festival to White Oak Music Hall, to celebrate the city’s most notable tastemakers, innovators and leaders across music, art, lifestyle, and food. R&B star Keri Hilson celebrated the eve of her birthday with a special performance of some of her classic hits, including “Turning Me On”, “Knock Me Down” and “Pretty Girl Rock” while delicious hors-d’oeuvres circulated the gallery, prepared by One Feisty Chef and Chef James Robinson. Guests also enjoyed a Ford “Ride & Drive” experience, where consumers got the chance to test drive the latest lineup of Ford vehicles, including the Mustang, the all-new 2018 Expedition, and the F-150.

Attendees were also able to shop at the pop-up shops of art influencer Ashely Price, who did a live art installation, entrepreneur and fashion influencer Rich God who had his clothing Made By Rich God on display and for sale. Melissa Butler founder of the Lip Bar also had an interactive Lip Bar experience where she gifted guests with her lipstick. Houston’s very own Kam Franklin sang her heart out while she entertained the crowd with a special performance including a cover of Aretha Franklin’s “Do Right Women, Do Right Man”.

Top financial advisor Tiffany “Budgetnista” Aliche hosted the festival along with Tai Beauchamp. The Budgetnista announced the Ford’s Driving Her Dreams contest winner, through which Ford awarded Melissa Mitchell of Abeille Creations a two-year lease of a Ford Explorer. To win this contest, Melissa Mitchell beat out 10 other female entrepreneurs who made a pitch at ESSENCE FESTIVAL explaining why getting a Ford Explorer would help their business go further. Congrats to Melissa Mitchell for the big win!

The holiday season is full of surprises from gift-giving to the sparkling decor.  One of the most unexpected surprises for any mom includes household stains.

Laura Muller, the Principal Designer, and Owner of Los Angeles-based design firm, Four Point Design Build, has five easy and effective tips for decorating a perfect holiday home worthy of your in-law’s expectations. Check out these inspirational photos ALL from Laura’s personal home!

That’s a Wrap!

For a fresh and cozy style, add a single pine cone or cedar stem to your gift wrapping. Tie packages with raw linen strips, cotton ribbon, or twine. To give a cohesive look to your whole décor, coordinate the gift wrapping details to your tablescape!

☆ Tip 2 ☆

Deck the Decor Make sure to keep your holiday color scheme clear and consistent throughout your décor. For a clean, fresh, modern look, we use white candles in clear glass. For visual interest (and for the collectors at heart), we suggest all clear glass, but mix it up in size and shape! Use assorted greens for dynamic contrast. Keep greens fresh and in the same proportion for a full and elegant display.
