CAMILA ALVES MCCONAUGHEY SHINES AT THE OSCARS IN VIVIENNE WESTWOOD ARCHIVAL GOWN IN SUPPORT OF RED CARPET GREEN DRESS CAMPAIGN
Fashion icon Camila Alves McConaughey took a stand for sustainability this afternoon when she arrived at the 90th Academy Awards® in a classic Vivienne Westwood archival gown in support of Suzy Amis Cameron’s Red Carpet Green Dress (RCGD) ethical fashion campaign. The Vivienne Westwood dress was an ivory silk faille moire asymmetric gown with tulle petticoat. This grande corset gown made from an archival silk that was created at the London Atelier as part of Vivienne Westwood A/W2014 Collection. Alves especially selected this unique design from the Westwood classic collections, encouraging the revitalization of archival gowns.
“In support of the Red Carpet Green Dress initiative, I’m proud to wear a gown from designer Vivienne Westwood, made from archival silk that is ethically and sustainably crafted. I’m continuing to find ways to do my part in bettering the world we live in. By encouraging the revitalization of archival gowns, I’m making the “old” new again and finding beauty that already exists,” shared Alves. To qualify as a RCGD eco-conscious garment, each piece must either be made from recycled, organic or repurposed materials, use handmade detailing or incorporate natural dye processing – always with a focus on minimal negative impact on the environment, and environmentally and socially responsible design. Amis Cameron launched RCGD back in 2009, with the RCGD works with international designers to create sustainable eveningwear to showcase during the Academy Awards®.
Also supporting the sustainable lifestyle are RCGD 2018 partners, TESLA and Absolut Elyx. Absolut Elyx is a company that is built on the principles of quality, integrity and true craftsmanship. Every copper purchase in the Elyx Boutique, allows the luxury vodka company to provide safe water to more than 100,000 people worldwide through the help of Water for People. It is because of their help along with annual contests that financial security can be provided to MUSE School CA. MUSE School CA is an environmental non-profit educational organization Amis Cameron founded in Calabasas, Calif. with her sister Rebecca Amis.

Red Carpet Green Dress is an internationally recognized organization that combines the worlds of fashion and sustainability. Currently, in its ninth year, the campaign was conceived by Suzy Amis Cameron during the press tour for her husband, James Cameron’s film “Avatar”. Her hope is to draw attention to the importance of more sustainable practices in fashion by challenging designers from around the world to think about fashion in an eco-friendly context. The campaign also raises funds for MUSE School CA, a non-profit educational organization that Amis Cameron co-founded in Calabasas, California.
ESSENCE #BlackWomenInHollywood Luncheon – Mustang Empowerment Corner
The ESSENCE Black Women in Hollywood luncheon sponsored by Ford was a star-studded and empowerment filled event full of love and tears of joy as ESSENCE honored some boss women at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel.
Sisterhood was on full display as some of the industry’s top leading ladies came together to celebrate the honorees including “Black Panther” star Danai Gurira, actress Tessa Thompson of “Dear White People”, “Girl’s Trip” actress, author, and comedian Tiffany Haddish, and actress, producer, and screenwriter Lena Waithe, who received the Ford Vanguard of Feminism Award.
The Ford Mustang Empowerment Corner was nothing short of motivating as fashion muva (mother) June Ambrose interviewed the stars in front of the all-new 2018 Mustang, which is the most personalized ever and offers more customization than ever before as fans can create and share Mustang art through the “Personalize Your Pony” experience on Facebook. The experience allows fans to create personalized pony art right on their Facebook pages, then use their custom designs to order prints, clothing, mugs, phone cases and even a limited-edition grille badge for their late-model Mustangs.
During Tiffany Haddish’s acceptance speech, the new author told a story about being homeless and living in her car before she hit it big and joked “I heard if you mention a car company they’ll give you a car. So, Ford, maybe I can get me a nice Ford car!” which sent the room up in laughs.
The event was nothing short of brilliant and the perfect way to celebrate the sisterhood of boss women.

Lupita Nyongo Today Show Look – Purple and Pink Tones
Michael Kors Dress | Escada Coat | SJP Collection Shoes
Lupita Nyongo wore this look as a guest on The Today Show. The actress was seen wearing (tone-on-tone) various shades of purple and pink.
I love the flirtatious design of this dress with a plunging neckline, fishtail bottom, and cut-out just above the waist. Lupita’s hair was also in a pompadour…very stylish!
Pat McGrath Transforms Kim Kardashian West into Cleopatra
Today, on the latest cover of The Violet Files, the editorial site of Hollywood insider and beauty guru Cassandra Grey, Kim Kardashian West is transformed into the iconic Elizabeth Taylor in Cleopatra through the artistry and makeup design by Pat McGrath.
“I would have done anything—I would have trusted Pat’s vision no matter what she wanted—but I was really excited that it was the Cleopatra vibe,” says Kim Kardashian West of the collaboration with makeup artist Pat McGrath.
“Elizabeth Taylor’s makeup in Cleopatra has been re-created countless times, but for Kim I wanted to create an interpretation that has never been done before, a futuristic 3D version,” Ms. McGrath explains. “I wanted to portray a luxurious decadence by using elements of ornate facial jewelry constructed into shapes that pay homage to Egyptian culture, and of course to the rich exotic character that Taylor portrayed in this role.”
“Her eyeshadow was made from ground lapis stone and gold pyrite flecks,” notes Ms. McGrath. “Incorporating three-dimensional gold metal into the makeup design explores the concept of makeup as jewelry. I wanted the images to be luxurious, evoking a modern take on the opulence associated with Cleopatra’s makeup.”
The images, shot by Ben Hassett, are the first installment in a series for VIOLET GREY in which Ms. McGrath will reimagine paragons of old Hollywood glamour with new faces.
