5 Life Triggers that Inspire Bold Beauty Transformations

It is common for women to alter their appearance when faced with a significant life challenge. When we are tested we transform. When we shift our mindset, and transform on the inside, it’s only natural that we want the outside to change as well. It’s as if we shed old skin like a butterfly ready to take new flight soaring to new heights. Below are some common life challenges and the typical beauty treatments sought for each.

A milestone birthday.

You don’t have to be turning 50 to freak out about a birthday. Women as young as 25 are having quarter life crisis.’ Women who turn 30 or 35 often feel blah about it. Even if women feel great about a milestone birthday they still may desire a change. According to Dr. Sanam Hafeez, a NYC based licensed clinical psychologist, teaching faculty member at the prestigious Columbia University Teacher’s College and the founder and Clinical Director of Comprehensive Consultation Psychological Services, “when we have birthday’s, we focus on aging. We look at our faces in the mirror and may think a refresher is in order. It’s common for women to book appointments for Botox around their birthdays. However, when aging becomes an obsession causing anxiety or depression, it’s important to speak to a professional.”

Surviving an illness.

“After recovering from illness, especially if the road to recovery was long and hard, it is normal to want a new look,” explains Hafeez. When people feel healthier and happier they may desire a new wardrobe; especially if there was weight loss. Dr. Margarita Lolis a Board-Certified Dermatologist in northern New Jersey who specializes in anti-aging and longevity adds, “they may also want to explore fillers to the face to replace volume lost while ill. It’s important to make a full recovery before doing any invasive procedures. You really must speak to your doctor to clear you for any elective surgeries.” “There’s a lot of empowerment that comes from battling back from illness. It makes sense that someone would want to celebrate their good health with a ‘new me’ approach to their appearance,” says Hafeez.

Going back to work after a stretch of unemployment.

You got laid off and for months your job has been finding a new job. After months of sitting at the computer in sweats only showering to go on interviews you finally get hired! Elated you decide to treat yourself to a spa day, get a pro to cut and color your hair and splurge on new eyeglass frames. “Being unemployed crushes the spirit. The longer someone is unemployed the greater their chances are of sinking into depression. When a new job is secured there’s a feeling that the weight of the world is off the shoulders. Of course, you want to treat yourself” says Dr. Hafeez.

Divorce or a breakup.

One of the most profound triggers motivating a significant change to a woman’s appearance is divorce. Breast augmentation, tummy tucks, liposuction, face lifts, weight loss, new hair, new clothes and total transformation is common. Divorce is such a significant severing that most women feel that the person they were before must change. The fastest way is to change their appearance. The challenge here is that they are often hurting inside as they grieve the loss of their marriage. Even if they are happy for the divorce and ended it amicably the stress over dating again is a motivator. Dr. Lolis says many new clients come to her by referral because they recently divorced and want their “cry lines” removed and a fresh look to their faces.

Moving to a new city.

“Uprooting to a new city can be very scary. There are a lot of unknowns which makes people feel as if they are out of control,” says Dr. Hafeez. The one thing they can take control over is their appearance. It’s common for people who relocate to assume a whole new identity that blends in with the other people of that city. If you’re moving from New York City to a beach town in Miami, your attire is going to change.

Fall Beauty: Hit The New Season With A Glam Glow

It’s finally time to say goodbye to summer and strut into fall with style. It might feel like it’s been awhile since your last vacation; whether you’re running around a city’s fashion week or trying to get back into the busy routine of school run. The cold weather doesn’t help your skin, hair, or nails which can end up suffering.

If you don’t feel great on the outside you’ll end up heading into fall with the wrong mindset and your summer glow will become a distant memory. However, with a little bit of time and effort; you can get into a new beauty routine while giving yourself the boost you need to strut into the new season in style.

Skin And Hair

Whether it’s hot or cold; the weather can take its toll on the condition of your skin and hair. Now is the time to start your new routine before it gets and cold. Let’s start with your skin; you’ll need to switch up your routine and add some nourishing products. It’s always worth visiting a beauty counter or spa to seek advice on your skin.

Don’t be pressured into buying anything. You can take away the relevant information (and hopefully a ton of samples) and do your research on the best cleansers, toners, and moisturizers within your budget. Samples are your best bet at this stage; test each out for a few days before deciding if you can feel and see any benefits before you invest in a full sized product. By the time fall is in full swing; you’ll have discovered your ultimate skin saviors for the cold weather, and you’ll be getting your glam on every day.

Facemasks are another great way to top up moisture and restoration for your skin; take a look here: http://www.lookfantastic.com/blog/advice/ultimate-face-mask-routine/ and create the ultimate Sunday night routine to give you a glow for Monday morning. Steer clear of harsh chemicals and choose products that will soothe and hydrate giving a youthful boost in no time. Treat your body to a soak in your bath tube and indulge in some bath salts, body scrub, and products with relaxing scents and soothing qualities; your skin will thank you for it. Don’t forget those feet and toes; strutting can take its toll; soak them to soften your skin and use a foot cream aimed to nourish and protect your feet (so they’re Louboutin ready).

If your hair is suffering from the rain and wind; you’ll want to wash and condition it with gentle products. Take a look here: https://soundbodylife.com/best-sulfate-free-shampoos-and-conditioners/ and discover the best sulfate-free shampoos and conditioners for your hair. A weekly hair mask will also add moisture and protect your hair from the colder season.

Makeup And Cosmetics

As a fashion and beauty enthusiast; one of the best things about fall is the change in colors and hues. You can say goodbye to the pastel and primary shades that you’ve worn last summer and get the glamour of fall with deep hues in your cosmetics and your clothing. Take a look at some of the latest eye shadow palettes when you’re out shopping.

Switch up that lip color! Nothing says fall more than a deep lipstick. You may need to lighten your base color and embrace new shades of blush. Retain a dewy, youthful glow throughout fall by highlighting the right areas of your face and ensuring the rest of your makeup pops!

Tracy Reese NYFW SS18: Get The Understated Blowout With Cantu

Yesterday, Cantu took the NYFW stage again at Tracy Reese’s SS’18 presentation. The show was inspired by the message that ‘Every Woman has a Story’ and featured a mix of models alongside real women.

During the presentation, each woman shared what made them unique, what they believed in, or what inspired them – all in their native tongue.

The beauty look embraced individuality enhancing each woman’s multifaceted personality.

Hair How To: Understated Blowout

Inspiration: Embracing the texture of each woman, we wanted to create a simple yet wearable style that allowed the fashion to be the main focal point.

Hairstylist: Bok-Hee for Cantu

  • Step 1: Start by spraying roots and lengths of hair with Cantu Refresh Dry Co-Wash for a clean, conditioned base.
  • Step 2: Next, spray hair with Cantu Thermal Shield Heat Protectant and blow hair out smooth using a round brush.
  • Step 3: Once hair is smoothed out, use a 1 ½ inch curing iron to create subtle curls at the lengths. When finished, loosen up the curls with your fingers for a more subtle wave.
  • Step 4: Lastly, mold hairline around the part and face using Cantu Extra Hold Edge Stay Gel to stand up slightly.

How To Glow During NYFW: Dr. Maryam Zamani

With NYFW kicking off this week, that means hectic schedules, runway shows, after parties and a jam-packed social schedule all while wanting to look our very best! Oculoplastic Surgeon, Dr. Maryam Zamani, would love to share her guidelines (below) on how you can glow in the midst of the madness.

  • Exfoliate: Gently exfoliate and remove any dead skin that accumulates, particularly in colder temperatures and heating. I recommend a Natural Konjac Sponge to help slough off the dead unwanted skin and allow beautiful new skin to glow through.
  • Maintain Hydration: Hydration helps reduce the appearance of fine lines, boosts hydration and makes skin glow. Look for a moisturizer with sun protection, brighteners (like Vitamin C), and skin plumpers.
  • Focus below the neck: never forget the décolletage especially in the season of the little black dress. Use a daily body scrub every morning. Swap your regular body lotion with one with lactic acid to help dissolve rough patches without irritating the skin.
  • Get a nutritional facelift: Make sure your diet is filled with Omega 3, 6 and 9 to help combat inflammation and maintain the health of the skin and hair. Fruits and vegetables loaded with antioxidant help rid your body of free radicals that make your skin look older
  • Avoid salty foods for at least two to three days prior to a party to prevent puffy eyes.
  • Increase your water intake to keep yourself hydrated and counter the effects of alcohol and caffeine.
  • Do not get a facial or peel the day of a party; this should be done one week before an event to avoid redness and irritation.
